I've seen zero indication that they can shoe-horn anything resembling a baseball field into Allegiant.

If you can fit a football field into Yankee Stadium, you can do the reverse with Allegiant

Only if the fans can hang from the rafters.  But we don't have rafters, we have foul poles, and they're hanging off them!

I doubt this would ever happen in a million years, but why not make the A's a travel team for prospective expansion cities through 2026? Rotating homestands in Nashville, Charlotte, SLC, Montreal etc. Make it a condition that you need to host the A's for X number of games in order to be considered for expansion.

Well the XFL team is basically playing on a baseball field.   Although frankly that stadium might be in worse quality than Oakland

I mean it is a minor league baseball stadium. It was the former home to where the As AAA team played (who moved into a new stadium in the last couple of years)

Only reason I didn't suggest either Minor League stadium in Vegas is both have capacities of only around 10K which there is no way MLB would let fly

As a frame of reference - when the Jays were playing at Sahlen Field in Buffalo, that seats just over 16K and that is(was) the largest stadium in AAA

Or they will play in the fucking AAA stadium

Oakland team president Dave Kaval told the Washington Post that they may work out a deal to play in Oakland until 2027 - if not, they have an agreement in place to play where the Aviators play

Quote

Kaval said he expects a new stadium to open for the 2027 season. The Athletics’ lease at RingCentral Coliseum expires after the 2024 season. Kaval said the team may work out an agreement to play there until the new facility is ready, but the A’s also have an agreement with their Class AAA team, the Las Vegas Aviators, to use their stadium in the interim if necessary.

The Aviators, meanwhile, will stay in Las Vegas when the Athletics move, Kaval said. Much like the Minnesota Twins, who recently made the nearby St. Paul Saints their AAA affiliate, the A’s will limit costs and logistical trouble by having their highest minor league level a short drive from the big league team.

At least they are being realistic, as the estimated capacity of the new stadium in Vegas will seat 30K to 35K. That's right at the bottom of current capacities for MLB stadiums, only Cleveland is in that range (according to wikipedia). Course, that doesn't count potential standing room tickets if they ever make the playoffs again.

Insert jokes about the A's at least having full stands in a 10k seater for a couple years here.

No jokes here - honestly, that's way more aesthetically pleasing to have near-capacity crowds of 9-10K in Vegas than 1000 people (if that much) rattling around the Coliseum like marbles in a bathtub for two solid years. From one who caught one of the very last Marlins games at Joe Robbie... announced attendance of 21,340, actual attendance:

Two things:

  1. That was DURING the game.
  2. The Fish weren't even leaving town, just moving to a new stadium.

i think this is a cool idea but the logistics would likely be a nightmare. would be very interested to see it given a try though!

always another penny to pinch for this motherfucker.

First hint Fisher will continue to run the A's as the second farm system for the rest of MLB.  And why wouldn't he, when behaving that way has rewarded him so well?

They'll still suck, and so they still won't draw (because there's 15,000 other things to do in Vegas that are more fun than watching a schedule-filling jabroni) and yet the same low attendance that is such a 5 Star Crisis now will be ignored or spun as A Good Thing Actually

those seats are for the peasants.  peasants don't count. The A's make 60+ million a year off of TV revenue sharing as is, no matter how many seats sit empty.

How many Luxury Boxes is how owners keep score now (and has been for the last 20+ years)

Scherzer suspended 10 games with MLB providing one of the lengthiest explanations ever

Yeah, after Boras tried to blame Phil Cuzzi, even though Cuzzi wasn't the home plate umpire and then the umpires went scorched earth on Scherzer (“As far as stickiness, this was the stickiest it had been since I’ve been inspecting hands, which goes back three seasons,” Bellino said. “Compared to the first inning, it was so sticky that when we touched his hand, our fingers were sticking to his hand. Whatever was on there remained on our fingers afterwards for a couple innings. It was far more than we’ve ever seen before on a pitcher during live action.”), this is Scherzer basically admitting he was guilty.  Which, to be honest, I was about 99.5% sure he was anyway.

White Sox with fantastic baseball IQ tonight: they intentionally walked Wander Franco to pitch to Randy Arozarena in the bottom of the 10th, who drove in all three Rays runs up to that point. What happened? Walk off RBI single, Rays win.

Relief pitchers will enter the game riding on a camel backward.

I hate when coaches are so overly stubborn about playing the lefty/righty advantage against the starting pitcher. On its face its not a bad idea if you have some fringe players to swap them out depending on the match-up, but the Braves keep on putting in Ozuna and Eli White against lefties. Even with them mostly facing who they are "best" against, Ozuna as of this second is hitting .080 and White is hitting .077. Not a typo in either case. So if a hitter is THAT cold, forget the match-ups, play the better player so there aren't two automatic outs in the line-up (their other options are Hillard, hitting .333, and Rosario, hitting an also bad but better .192).

Tonight's Royals/Angels game was close to a full-Tungstening, but Ohtani went 0 for 5

Angels hit 4 homers, 2 by Renfroe, 1 from Trout, and a go-ahead HR in the 8th.. and lost 11-8 after their closer couldn't hold a 2 run lead, hitting a batter in the back to let in the go-ahead run.

Also one of the Angels runs scored after a balk undid the original 3rd out of an inning, with the Angels knocking in a run on the redo.
