Cobra Commander Posted April 1, 2023 Posted April 1, 2023 time for a great battle tonight San Diego State's defense vs John Higgins' willingness to call fouls
SirFozzie Posted April 2, 2023 Posted April 2, 2023 (edited) YOU WANT MADNESS? YOU GOT MADNESS. Absolutely cold-blooded. No thought of a timeout, the announcers were going on about how they didn't have the right personnel on the floor and uh.. just let me hit this shot while moving, ok? https://twitter.com/MarchMadnessMBB/status/1642323896597876736 Edited April 2, 2023 by SirFozzie 1
Tarheel Moneghetti Posted April 2, 2023 Posted April 2, 2023 Feel bad for FAU, but another great game and even better ending, I was rooting for FAU, but a small school was going to make the final either way, so it’s a win for the tourney. Rooting for Miami U now though I hate to root against a Big East team.
Contentious C Posted April 2, 2023 Posted April 2, 2023 (edited) Well, Iowa's magic might be running out thanks to a combination of foul trouble and LSU shooting the goddamn lights out; can't do much about a bench player coming out and hanging 21 on 7-for-7 shooting when LSU's stars go to the bench with 2 fouls each. Still, it's fun to see a game that's closer to a modern NBA or men's college game than the sort of mismatches that Iowa/SC seemed like it was predicated upon. EDIT: That is, until you realize that, in the history of all sportsball, only one team is undefeated, and that's the officiating. Huge chunk of these whistles need to get swallowed, and they miss calls on both ends. Edited April 2, 2023 by Contentious C
Cobra Commander Posted April 2, 2023 Posted April 2, 2023 feels like this bubble of sports gambling is inevitably gonna end in some sort of predictable scandal or other bad things..

Cobra Commander Posted April 2, 2023 Posted April 2, 2023 Only takes one of the dumber NCAA sports officials to leave evidence that they have some action on one of their games to really mess things up. The NBA can bury that sort of scandal but i'm not sure if the NCAA could. Anyways, I suspect the Tweets about this game's officiating are eerily similar to wrestling people who tweet about how they dislike Aubrey Edwards' refereeing style because it's the internet and some of the people on it are not subtle.
Brian Fowler Posted April 2, 2023 Posted April 2, 2023 (edited) Say whatever else you want to about Kim Mulkey and her dressing like the wife of an 80's televangelist, but God damn that woman can coach basketball. Edited April 3, 2023 by Brian Fowler 1
Cobra Commander Posted April 2, 2023 Posted April 2, 2023 it's kinda surprising that Kim Mulkey wasn't the early 2000s Baylor coach that tried to cover up a murder 1
Brian Fowler Posted April 2, 2023 Posted April 2, 2023 Just now, Cobra Commander said: it's kinda surprising that Kim Mulkey wasn't the early 2000s Baylor coach that tried to cover up a murder Maybe she was just better at it 1
colonial Posted April 2, 2023 Posted April 2, 2023 Kim Mulkey looks like she does all her clothes shopping at Fred Blassie's estate sale. 1

Brian Fowler Posted April 4, 2023 Posted April 4, 2023 Gonna be real disappointing if after all the craziness in March UConn just blows out SDSU.
Contentious C Posted April 4, 2023 Posted April 4, 2023 Just too much depth and skill for SDSU to overcome, especially when you go 11 minutes without a bucket and get no points from your bench in the first half. And UConn is really good.
Cobra Commander Posted April 4, 2023 Posted April 4, 2023 nobody has more NCAA tournament title wins that you kinda sorta remember than UConn "They beat Kentucky" "In the year that Kentucky was undefeated?" "Nah, the year that Kentucky was an 8 seed for some reason" "They beat Butler" "In the huge Butler underdog run" "Nah, the year after that" "They beat Georgia Tech" "Georgia Tech played for a National Title?" so if the pattern holds, UConn won't make the tournament next year and will return to win a national title in either 2026 or 2031 over a 7 seed? 1
Brian Fowler Posted April 4, 2023 Posted April 4, 2023 Yeah. They were an unlikely champion this year, but not the way SDSU or FAU would've been.
Cobra Commander Posted April 4, 2023 Posted April 4, 2023 New Mexico State beat UConn in the tournament last year, and goodness did those two programs have dramatically different 2022-23 seasons 2 1
