I went to see Casey Musgraves last night who I've been wanting to see for a bit. Was really good but I wish she did more than two songs from her first two albums, although she did finish with rainbow which I love and was hoping to hear. Also the audience was about 80-90 percent female which was unusual for me! I'm more used to the slayer audience which is like 80-90 percent beefy dudes with beards

I like the stuff I've heard off the newest album she put out but it's kinda low energy at points. How did those tracks play?

Went to see Eric Clapton last night, sounded good, played good, great backing band. But setlist left something to be desired opened with Sunshine, Key to the Highway, Badge but with the exceptions of Tears in Heaven and Cocaine he went into his catalogue of blues standards which to me are not his strong suit. No White Room, Layla, Bell Bottom Blues, Wonderful Tonight or anything off Blind Faith but he made space for Change the World

However on a positive note opening act Jimmy Vaughn played Texas Floods

I have nothing but disdain for Anthrax but Joey could probably belt 'em out doing that.

I prefer John Bush Anthrax over Joey.

I really like the Greater of Two Evils album where they rerecorded the earlier material John Bush. The John and Rob era was the first time I saw anthrax and they would do a lot of old material

Went to see Jeff Lynn's ELO last night as part of my see them while they are still playing campaign, so many great songs I remember from classic rock radio when I first got a car

Went to see Orville Peck tonight, brought out Beck for Death Valley High and did a county version of Pink Pony Club for first encore. Second time in as many months I've heard a country artist do that one.

Also got a lot of complements on my Anxious Millennial Cowboy shirt

Went to see David Gilmour at the Hollywood Bowl tonight. Played a good bit of stuff off he last two solo records and some later era Pink Floyd, which I like I wish he had played Learning to Fly and On The Turning Away. Played Time which surprised me as I've always considered it more of a Roger Waters song, finished with Laser light show set to Comfortably Numb

Man ZZ would be one to knock off the list. Since I never caught Motorhead, it would be great to see Lemmy's favorite band instead. (Not for that reason alone, of course. Their first what, four or so? records are incredible. Not just essential rock'n'roll, but essential American music period.)

I'm on concert ticket probation because of everything we have planned in 2025, so of course Pearl Jam announces a rare southeast run in the spring and Dead & Co officially announce another 18 night Sphere run.  I'll end up caving and doing something for my birthday, but that's more likely to be Umphrey's or Billy Strings or something random like Matt Nathanson.

Funny thought saw "Pantera" (minus the abbot brothers) open for Metallica earlier this year, and tonight saw "Van Hagar" (Sammy, Michael Anthony and Joe  Satriani on guitar) open for Metallica at the Youtube theatre. Pricy ticket but really cool to see Metallica play a theatre

Saw Heart tonight with Squeeze opening. Both bands were great, especially after doing this for 50+ years. Ann Wilson had to perform from a wheelchair to keep her busted arm elevated, but she sounded as great as ever.

Might as well change this thread title to be general rather than yearly.

To the point...  July 20th, I've got tickets to see WEIRD AL at Bethel Woods!

Also, a friend of mine got the VIP experience and is going to MEET him!  Super excited.  If we get a group picture, I'll post it.

Coachella 2025 started this weekend.

I watched some of it and left a long ramble on what I saw under the spoiler tag...

Spoiler

Since this was the first weekend of Coachella 2025, I decided to take part in Couchella 2025 cause I damn sure don't have the money to go to California to see this stuff live.
On to Coachella's YouTube channel which has improved greatly in the past few years with the broadcast quality and streams available.

Day One started on Friday with me tuning in, barely in time, to catch The Go-Go's on the Outdoor Stage.
I've been a fan of The Go-Go's since their days in the LA punk scene.
They played and looked great, but there were a few technical glitches.
A few times Belinda Carlisle stopped singing and looked to be off.
I later found out it was 100 degrees fahrenheit when they were playing, so I'll give her a pass for that.
I didn't watch every band, in fact I watched a few artists each day as I am old and don't know the majority of these whipper-snappers.
The Prodigy headlined The Mojave Stage.
I haven't paid much attention to The Prodigy since Keith Flint passed, but it was great to see them still thriving.
Maxim has taken over Keith's role in addition to his old role as MC.
They still hit it hard and high energy and the crowd was way into them.
After their set I was worried that Coachella Main Stage headliner, Lady Gaga, would be hard pressed to top them.
But I was wrong.
Lady Gaga hit the stage for her Mayhem show and it did not disappoint.
She's such an amazing performer. She has the songs and stage presentation that is second to none.
I must admit that outside of the singles that have been released off her new album, I'm not familiar with anything deeper.
But she sprinkled in a number of the hits along the way.
Many costume changes and an amazing Opera House setting.
She performed for around 2 hours and with that day One was a memory.

Day Two found me clicking around during the afternoon, but I missed the two artists I wanted to see during the day, Yo Gabba Gabba and Weezer. (Not together! But that is an interesting idea.)
Watched a few minutes of Clairo, but had some things going on so I wasn't able to dedicate time for the whole set.
Green Day played the Coachella Main Stage before Travis Scott.
I must admit that i have never been a fan of Green Day and much of my lackadaisical attitude towards them stem from my former belief that they couldn't be punks since they weren't around in the 70s.
Also, I remember a story about Taz meeting them in the ECW days on the road. But since I don't base my opinion on what Pete Senerchia thinks, I've grown to respect their place in music.
On to the show, they were a few minutes late and Bohemian Rhapsody started playing over the loudspeakers and that was followed by a Ramones song. So I thought that they're going to burn people out by playing better songs than them.
But I was pleasantly surprised by Billie Joe Armstrong's stage presence. He does a great job working the crowd.
My wife was surprised she knew as many songs of theirs as she did.
I was really looking forward to the next artist on the Gobi Stage, Beth Gibbons, as I hoped that she would bring out the other members of Portishead for a reunion, but that didn't happen.
She and her band played the majority of songs from her album and threw in Portishead's Glory Box towards the end.
Beth performs just as she did during the Portishead days, but her band is very eclectic in their presentation.
Even though they only did 10 songs, they were captivating.
We next clicked over to the Outdoor Stage for the headliners, The Original Misfits.
The early part of their set had horrible sound from Glenn's microphone, but they got that worked out.
I swear I think that Danzigs told them to not shoot any video of him up close, because everything was wide shot.
There were no camera operators on stage. Can't imagine he would be vain like that.
Energy level was high for the crowd and the band, so it was a rocking time.
All the hits you would expect were played.
After The Original Misfits headlining set concluded, we decided to watch the end of Travis Scott's set.
I still don't get Travis Scott and I made the comment that I sounded like the oldest whitest asshole you can imagine when talking about his performance.
I do not want to be known as THAT guy.
He has quite an elaborate show, but it seemed like he was mumbing most of the lyrics and I don't get any charisma from the guy.
Satan bless anyone who likes him, but he's not for me.
And with that out of the way, Day Two concluded.

Day Three my plan was to catch The Circle Jerks, Kraftwerk, and Amyl and the Sniffers, but we started clicking on some of the other artists to get a feel for them.
Starting with Shaboozey, whom I only know for that one song that Nashville radio loves to play. I was pleasantly surprised that not all of his songs sound like that.
Shaboozey was playing on the Coachella Main Stage during the day in 95 degrees plus in a jumpsuit that Porter Wagoner would have loved.
He has a great stage presence and singing voice. I wish him well.
Caught the entirety of The Circle Jerks on the Sonora Stage and they sounded great.
Keith Morris looked well, well enough for him at least.
They, too, played the hits and Keith had some good banter between songs.
It took me a bit before I recognized Zander Schloss playing bass, guess I hadn't seen him since he started looking like me.
After their set I had some time to kill before Kraftwerk.
Kraftwerk were the headliners for the Mojave stage. They and Amyl and the Sniffers played basically at the same time, so I had to decide which band would win out on the live feed and I went with the Aussies.
Amyl and the Sniffers were headlining the Gobi Stage. I've been following the band since around 2019 or '20 and I feel they deserved the headlining gig.
Amy Taylor is high energy and captivating. The crowd was way into them and the band fed off that energy and left them wanting more.
So after The Sniffers, I clicked over to catch the last 20 minutes of Kraftwerk. If you've seen any Kraftwerk shows in the past few years, you've seen this one.
That's not to say it wasn't a spectacle, it was just another big Kraftwerk gig. I'm hoping that the individual artists get featured on the Coachella YouTube so I can properly take this set in.
After Kraftwerk I wanted to catch Weekend One and Coachella Main Stage headliner, Post Malone.
I like Post, even though I'm lukewarm to his country stuff, he seems like such a likable fellow that I can't help but be drawn to him.
And I may check out his country album because I noticed he was actually trying to sing on those songs live. And by sing I mean he wasn't doing his normal vibrato thing.
Most of the older hits of his were done country style, so I may try to check out his set later, as well.

And with that my story of Couchella Week One comes to a close.
Hope you weren't bored and that you didn't start a drinking habit reading my ramblings.
Cheers!

Benson Boone performed the entirety of Bohemian Rhapsody at Coachella...

QUEEN has never done that.  They always just broadcasted the operatic section.
