I guess the one good thing about this movie is they aren't killing off the villain. Unless of course each movie is a different version of Kang, which would be clever and a way to wink at the MCU formula.

Spoiler

I got Rama Tut, so on some level, I’m happy.

How old is Cassie supposed to be now in this movie? I figured since was 17-18 now, and was mildly surprised that the actress is 26.

The director said in an interview that Cassie is 18 during Quantumania (the actress who played Cassie in Antman & the Wasp is 19, so that lines up).

watched this last night. i had a very solid, fun time. i don't really understand most of the gripes about the film. Is it a pinnacle of cinematic achievement? no, but it was never trying to be. It was a big fun action movie that was based around family values. i would decidedly put it somewhere in the middle of the Marvel pack- i don't foresee revisiting it a bunch, but it didn't leave me feeling disappointed, and i overall enjoyed it (this sentence makes my view of it sound more negative, but i can't put in the thought to find a way to say what better reflects my takeaway).

Kang was excellent. MODOK was........a choice. wanted to see more of Bill Murray's character. some definite story possibilities with that one. the Scott/Cassie interactions felt genuine for the characters.

were the freedom fighters (specifically the main warrior woman and the telepathic advisor) based on any comic characters or runs?

I'm of two minds about this.

On one hand, the actual moment to moment, nuts-and-bolts part of what was there was...well, decent.  Not really better or worse than what they've done lately; on par with the Black Panther or Dr. Strange sequels if anything.  But they still haven't done a genuinely better-than-good movie since 2018.

I think for bigger-picture stuff, though, I'm not sure how they could have done this any better than they did.  The set-up and forward-looking stuff is excellent.  Jonathan Majors is going to be better than Josh Brolin was, I think.  And a lot of the ethical and social subtext in the film is really good, maybe the single most compelling Marvel movie in that sense besides Black Panther.  It's got a lot to say about capitalism and imperialism and longtermism and doesn't pull its punches.  Of course, it's still The Fucking Mouse that released this - a vastly wealthy company that makes absolutely, positively *nothing* that anyone, anywhere needs - and they're very much on the "Kang" side of those issues, so...grain of salt, I suppose.

The guy with the cannon head seems familiar, but not sure off the top of my head.

I'm mildly disappointed Murray did not end up playing Egghead or another Silver Age villain.

Egghead was in Ant-Man and the Wasp.

I feel that Jentorra was a mash-up of Jarella from the Hulk's gallery of support characters and one or two of Bil Mantlo's Micronauts female heroes ala Marionette and Lady Slug.

Spoiler

You also got Immortus, the Scarlet Centurion, and Victor Timely.

Now I am wondering if they will tie Phineas Horton to this whole thing and have Timely give him the tech to create a Human Torch android just like in the comics.

Hank Pym talking about socialism in a Marvel movie wasn't on my bingo card, though. Still don't understand the re-casting of Cassie, nothing in this movie suggested it wasn't anything that Emma Fuhrmann couldn't do. Is Kathryn Newton a big upcoming star that I don't know about or something?

Supposedly she's the next big star or it person in Hollywood. Think Timothy Chalamet when he was in Lady Bird.

I am not so sure that it is an issue with quality as it is with meta.   The Thanos saga had a clear path but the road to Kang has been paved with tar and molasses and covered by a thick fog.  Even I am a bit frustrated by the apparent aimlessness of the current overarching plotline.

In the comics, Jentorra was Jarella's niece.

I cheerfully admit that I wasn't there for the Hulk's sub-atomic adventures.  I have like nearly all of the issues of Mantlo's Micronauts run in Marvel, though.

Saw it today, smallish theater was maybe a 1/3rd full. I liked it, but I’ve pretty much liked all of the Marvel movies I’ve seen (which actually excludes most of Phase 4).  They’re basically comics to me; unless they’re bad (looking at you, One More Day), I’m going to enjoy them.

Kang was great, I was surprised to see  the Conquerer presumably killed off, but that makes two straight Kang variants essentially warning about worse variants being out there.

I’ve seen some mentions in reviews of this being a little Star Wars-esque, and I definitely felt those vibes in a few places early on, especially the bar scene and Bill Murray’s Lando Calrissian.

My only nitpicks, and they’re very minor nitpicks, were how they were approaching a comical level of referring to Kang as “Him” early on, as if he was Voldemort and they were afraid to say his name (also amusing since Adam Warlock is debuting in the next movie), and how they constantly kept taking their helmet masks off. Not really a nitpick as much as it happened so much you could almost hear someone from the studio (or their agents) saying “You gotta show their faces more.”

What are the odds that the super intelligent ants left in the Quantum Realm somehow end up leading to Annihilus?

Finally got around to seeing it on Friday since babysitter issues prevented us from seeing it opening weekend. I liked it quite a bit. I like all of the Ant Man movies and this one was super solid. CGI looked good. MODOK looked silly as fuck and they even made jokes about his look. Kang ruled. The humor made me laugh more than enough. Yeah. This was good enough for me.
