SOCCER - WINTER 2023

Dolfan in NYC

Recommended Posts

Me: earlier "Eh, this is one of those games destined to peter out into a 0-0 game has both teams try not to lose instead of win"

Me Just Now: Hmm. Wonder what the score of the Liverpool-Man U game was, wonder if one of the teams managed to squeak a goal.

Me Now: 0-o

edit: Just saw this stat and it blew my mind. This set a competitve record for a Liverpool win over Manchester United. The previous record was 7-1, in '95. EIGHTEEN NINETY FIVE.

Imagine if the Ipswich 9 had been freed from history in "the biggest rivalry game in English football"?

Also, prob a bad day to be Neville and Keane in that studio.

A clear red card offense missed in the CONCACAF Champions League

Why? It's a clear DOG SO....

(if you don't get the joke (rules reference), just nod your head and move on)

Although this doggo was CLEARLY offside.

BBC have pulled Lineker from MOTD over his social media activity (being too liberal basically). Wrighty sticking by his mate.

Edit: Shearer and Alex Scott have said "not for me, clive" also.

MOTD will go out with no presenter or pundits tomorrow due to a boycott over the way BBC has badly treat Gary Lineker. Ian Wright, Alan Shearer, Micah Richards, Alex Scott and Jermaine Jenas all publicly refused to in solidarity with Lineker.

UPDATE. Commentators now:

Add Colin Murray, Mark Chapman and Dion Dublin to BBC Radio 5 Live boycoting today. Normally you'd get Fighting Talk and 5 Live Sport on a Saturday but it's pre-recorded podcasts.

Sky Sports aren't above putting the boot in, either.

From nuking United to this in one week. The Reds are having a normal one.

Someone joked that given last week’s 7-0 and the earlier 9-0 this season, this had 0-0 or 1-0 Cherries written all over it.

After today's results, the relegation dog fight is likely to go down to the last week of the season.

Wonder if Dolfan is here at YS tonight to see Miami FC? Decided to come because it was cheap and there are very few games of any kind that I can go to this month. @Pete I got a ski cap for you if you want it.

I am obviously not going to start a thread already so...

The 2026 World Cup will have a record 104 matches played

The decision has been made to go with 12 groups of 4

The top 2 for each group advance AND 8 of the best third place teams

UCL quarterfinal draw:

Real Madrid (Spain) vs. Chelsea (England)
SL Benfica (Portugal) vs. Inter Milan (Italy)
Manchester City (England) vs. Bayern Munich (Germany)
AC Milan (Italy) vs. Napoli (Italy)

And the seeded semis:

Real Madrid/Chelsea vs. Manchester City/ Bayern Munich
AC Milan/Napoli vs. SL Benfica/ Inter Milan

Amazing how all three Italian clubs wound up in the same bracket.

Leeds United out of the bottom three beating Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-4 away from home. Congratulations, @AxB.

3-1 down Southampton at home draw 3-3 vs. Tottenham Hotspur. Antonio Conte's had a pop at his players. No way he's staying as Spurs manager.
