NCAAF 2023 OFF SEASON

RIPPA

Recommended Posts

Early rumors are linking McNamara to Iowa, which makes a fair amount of sense. They desperately need to upgrade on offense, but are definitely still going to play a conservative style. He's good at taking care of the ball, capable of hitting the occasional big play, and absolutely would be an improvement over what they had last year.

I mean, personally I would probably rather have him leave the conference, but, again, I wish him nothing but success.

The even more terrible thing about this Hugh Freeze situation is that Auburn was the only school that courted him or showed any interest. In that sense $6.5M/year is a horrendous overpayment especially given the farcical nature of Freeze's extension at Liberty.

Winning cures a lot, and I want Auburn to be successful, but there are plenty of guys who could win and be as or more successful than Freeze may be during his Auburn tenure.

I feel really bad for the Auburn fans who don’t want Freeze and deserve much better.

It really is stunning. NOBODY else was willing to touch this guy.

And I’ll say this about keeping Cadillac on staff: I get why it makes sense on a certain level, but if I was Freeze, I never would’ve agreed to it. Freeze better win and keep his nose clean and make everybody on the Plains happy. Because there are a lot of people who like Cadillac a hell of a lot more than him right now, and we could very easily see Auburn Insurrection Part 3 the moment he slips up.

I've seen a few people say that Freeze was the guy that the power brokers wanted, and it's the first time in awhile they truly got *their* guy. Freeze has had land on Lake Martin for a few years because he was eyeing this job, and he's been a member of one of the golf clubs with Gus there for a few years as well. I think the tone is that this has to work and there has to be no excuses, which means putting all of your money and energy into an incredible staff and NIL.

Plus (barring scandal), you've paid $35 million to coaches over the last two years. There will be more patience with this staff for better or worse. Freeze will get 4 years minimum I'm guessing to right the ship if he stays out of trouble.

UAB striking out on every name they talked to and settling for a Tennessee HS coach (regardless of what his name is) should explain a lot about why Bill Clark abruptly “retired” due to “back issues” in June…and then was immediately being circulated as a candidate for other jobs this fall.

I think the fairytale is about to be over for UAB.

I'm not sure where the best place for the Jalen Kitna news is, but... Yikes

The quote he "believed them to be 'legal' since he found them online" is a hell of an excuse to sharing child porn pictures. I feel like that won't hold up in court.

In general, ignorance of the law is not a valid defense.

But also... Yeah that's either a terrible excuse, or a terrifying look inside his mind if it's an honest claim.

Pro Football Talk is reporting that Deion Sanders is telling recruits that he will be picking a school by Saturday and that Colorado, Cincinnati, and South Florida are all "in the mix."

So Coach Prime is moving on. . .it's just a matter of where to.

I don't think "If those photos were illegal, why are they still on the internet" is gonna work unless Jalen Kitna is such a complete idiot in all non-football things that it works in his favor somehow.

Here are the 8 Florida Atlantic Head Coaches so far

  1. Schnellenberger: 2001-2011 (last job before retirement)
  2. Carl Pelini: 2012-2013 (resigned, sued the University, got a job with Bo Pelini, now a High School Football coach in Youngstown)
  3. Brian Wright as an interim for 4 games in 2013 (now the HC at Pittsburg State, lost a Division 2 playoff game last weekend to Ferris State)
  4. Charlie Partridge: 2014-2016 (got fired, now the assistant head coach at Pitt)
  5. Lane Kiffin: 2017-2019 (left for Ole Miss, still at Ole Miss)
  6. Glenn Spencer as an interim for 1 game in 2019 (now at Wake Forest after a stint at South Florida)

I have no issues at all with players transferring, but I don't really understand the timing. For eligibility reasons, did McNamara have to declare before December 1st? I know he is injured, but he still played this year and could have been "a part" of a national championship winning team. Unless it had to be declared by X day to get the extra season, why would he transfer now and not in mid-January.

Because he's a graduate transfer, he was able to at any time. Most players can only enter the portal during the two open windows.

I think you do it now before the semester ends so he can enroll at Iowa for the winter semester and thus can attend spring football practice.
