Going back to what I was saying earlier this week about the current zeitgeist in major program hiring practices:

This has long been thought to be Jim Leonhard’s job to keep, but clearly things have changed and Wisconsin is at least in the hunt for bigger game.

There it is.

A flashy hire for Wisco that sends the exact message they want to send, but perhaps an even bigger win for Kansas. With Nebraska and UW jobs off the board, most of the key potential suitors for Leipold are off the board.

Yeah, when GT hired a Bama guy to be their new AD, I thought for sure they were going to bring BoB over. Fritz would make a LOT more sense for them. He’s been a winner everywhere he’s gone, including some tough spots, like Tulane currently.

The American Athletic Conference annual matchups have been released:

The schedule also will include six annual matchups: North Texas-SMU; UAB-Memphis; Rice-UTSA; Charlotte-East Carolina; Florida Atlantic-South Florida; and Navy-Temple.

I believe that the North Texas/SMU game will be unofficially known as the Von Erich Bowl.

The backlash to Hugh Freeze at Auburn is not quite to Schiano/Tennessee levels, but it feels not quite far off. The fact that it’s midday Monday and we don’t have a hiring yet would seem to indicate that it’s at least given some pause to the people in charge. Whoever that might be.

Wonder how much of the big money backlash is due to Freeze’s personal baggage and how much is because Liberty got waxed by New Mexico State to close their season

And Michigan QB Cade McNamara has announced he will enter the portal as a Grad Transfer

Can't blame him there. He's at best a borderline late round pick, and he's not getting the starting job back at Michigan unless JJ gets hurt. Go somewhere that he can at least try to impress an NFL team or two, or at least get a chance to take meaningful snaps in his last year in college.

He's always going to be beloved in Ann Arbor both for the great season and beating the Buckeyes last year, and for how gracefully he handled being demoted, and I hope for nothing but great things for him where ever he lands.

Jimbo Fisher seems to have accepted reality (read bowed under pressure) and decided to hire an actual, honest to God, offensive coordinator.  Or at least he's fired the guy that supposedly was OC till now.  Will be interesting to see what we wind up with.  Hoping at least for an offensive scheme from this millennium.

Oh, actually, Cade potentially has several years of eligibility left. He redshirted in 2019, still has the 2020 exemption, and probably could get a medical exemption for this year since he got hurt in week 3 and didn't play again. So theoretically he could be somebody's starting QB for the next three years.

Whatever it was, it seems it was not enough.

A thousand times this. He was an absolute class act this year in a really, really tough spot. It's pretty clear that Michigan intended to go with McCarthy all along but Cade got a shot. He got beat out after an outstanding year last year, one that will not be forgotten. I hope he goes somewhere and throws 50 touchdowns next year.
