EURO 2024

I think the players, outside a few exceptions, can keep up / improve over the next 4-5 years, simply because they are still around the best footballing age. There are tons of factors we can't predict, though, and I agree Arnautovic is going to be a big loss.

Keeping my fingers crossed for you, Robert. International football is always more fun if your team is capable and in the mix. Although I get a kick out of the DFB team under Ribbeck, it was always more fun when you thought it was possible to go deep in the tournament.

England vs Netherlands in the Semi-finals?

Well, we all better hope that it doesn't go to penalties. It'll never end.

(england's run of bottling late in tournies/penalties, and Netherlands HISTORIC penalty problems)

I have to say I have rarely been so gutted by a football result of a German team. While there is of course the semi-final loss to Italy of 2006, but back then it felt more as if our team was outclassed. This time, Germany was at least on the same level and I would argue had the better chances. Spain are a great team though.

England are an enigma to me. When they had to, they looked world class for about ten minutes, then they went Back to administration mode WHILE THE GAME WAS STILL TIED AT 1-1. I just don't get it.

Sadly, England have been good at penalties under Southgate. They put a lot of effort and resources into studying them, although you a still just have bad luck, like Felix hitting the post for Portugal.

England - Netherlands is going to be a weird game. Netherlands' defence completely sucks at this tournament (the last couple of minutes against Turkey were LOL-material and there is a reason why Austria scored three goals against them), at the same time Southgate's England does anything but invest in offensive play unless they absolutely must do.

Also with the all the politics happening in the last week (on both sides, it's not just the Grey Wolf signs and Erdogan trying to capitalize from that affair, what I have read on social media from Austrians reg. Turkish people is just as disgusting, I would assume that it wasn't better in Germany), I am somewhat relieved that Turkey got eliminated before things got even uglier.

I have no faith the Dutch can beat Gareth’s squad. I will be rooting for whomever wins the other semi, even if it means rooting for the French.

Gonna give England my personal kiss of death. I'm rooting for them. I want Bukayo Saka to win something, and this way, Gareth Southgate would be the winning manager and not Mikel Arteta.

No offense to Harry Kane, but he needs to go off at sixty or sixty-five so Ollie Watkins or Ivan Toney can come on in the final.

He's still a great player, but he's running on empty.

Meh, don't try to win the ball with your studs. That would have been called a foul if it happened somewhere in the middle of the pitch, so I don't have a problem with it being called a penalty when it happens in the box.

I think ABE fans are going to be shambolic unless it's like a 4-0 Spain win. They shouldn't have made it this far, and the fans are going to be like "Oh, so disappointed but great run" unless they get boat-raced in the final

(89:59 was the time of the goal?)

And my choice for the Golden Boot? Ow(e)n Goal.

I would be cool with two outcomes of the final...

Scenario one: Southgate does his thing with his chosen players and England win the damned thing, grinding out a result.

Scenario two: Southgate gives in to all the critics (those I've heard at least), changes around all his personell and England decide to take a positive, offense-minded approach. They go down by five goals at half time being thoroughly outclassed. Southgate corrects everything in the second half, Kane scores a hattrick in the second half ending the score at 5-3 Spain. A pissed Off Southgate tells the Press that "this IS what happens when you try FIFA-videogame-shit in real life."

England dragged Spain down into the stagnant muck and boring mire along with them. They've got the Spaniards right where they want 'em.

Waiting for a 112th-minute Ivan Toney goal to settle it.
