  1. Agree wholeheartedly on Rollins. He still feels so underrated because you know they've strapped the rocket to Reigns, so I'm always surprised when Rollins makes an insane dive or a hot comeback and the crowd goes nuts. I was fine with the Evolution beatdown. I mean the babyfaces win clean at the PPV, so what's the logical way to keep it going? The heels refuse to be one-and-done and proceed with a shit-kicking to give the Shield a reason to come back and whip their asses again. I was watching Bryan/Del Rio thinking to myself, shit if Del Rio found his 2011 working boots, this could be fantastic for fifteen minutes. As it was, it was fine with the announcers trying to sell me on Bryan being afraid of Kane showing up. Gotta go back and watch the Adam Rose debut and the Wyatts promo, as I missed those last night. Hope tonight's Cena promo is interesting at least.
  2. Yeah Regal kind of stuck out to me, were his matches really THAT great that six of them shot him into the top ten? I loved the Cesaro match, and the Ohno match (that was 2013, yes?) but it feels like they'd put him top ten just because of who he is rather than what he did in the calendar year.
  3. Has there ever been a TNA period where there hasn't been an authority figure of some type near the main storyline? I could live without seeing a wrestling TV show open with an authority figure promo ever again. Granted, Sting was highly entertaining in the role a few years back.
  4. Crazy Steve is a fun gimmick. Wonder how well it'll transfer onto television.
  5. I'd say Hugh Laurie is a first ballot nominee, no?
  6. After thinking it over, you're right about that. Essentially Toronto gets two Korakuen Hall main events. I guess I just hoped it would have been explained beforehand that it would be each company with its own talent in matches. I'm sure Toronto will be a good show, NYC just has the more intriguing matchups. Except poor Tanahashi having to work Bennett.
  7. Especially compared to the NYC card...... ROH & NJPW Present: WAR OF THE WORLDS Saturday, May 17th, 2014 – 7:30PM The Hammerstein Ballroom – New York City ROH WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP Winner of Adam Cole vs. Kevin Steen from GLOBAL WARS (ROH) vs. Jushin “Thunder” Liger (NJPW) IWGP HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP "Rainmaker" Kazuchika Okada vs. "Unbreakable" Michael Elgin (ROH) **5/3 in Fukuoka, Japan Kazuchika Okada defends the IWGP Heavyweight Championship against AJ Styles. The winner of that match will defend against Michael Elgin on May 17th ROH WORLD TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP Champions: The Young Bucks (Bullet Club) vs. reDRagon (ROH) IWGP WORLD TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP Champions: Karl Anderson & Doc Gallows (Bullet Club) vs. Jay & Mark Briscoe (ROH) ROH WORLD TV CHAMPIONSHIP Champion: Jay Lethal w/ Truth Martini (ROH) vs. KUSHIDA (NJPW) Shinsuke Nakamura (NJPW) vs. Kevin Steen or Adam Cole (ROH) Hiroshi Tanahashi (NJPW) vs. Michael Bennett w/ Maria Kanellis (ROH)
  8. GLOBAL WARS.. it is not. More like a 4-match New Japan show and a 4-match ROH show. Neither with any compelling matches. Extremely disappointed with this card.
  9. Considering there's only been one two-time ROH World Champion (Aries) I don't see Cole getting the belt back once he's dropped it. Just sucks that his only feud has been a not-so-memorable one with Jay Briscoe, with occasional challenges by Hero and Elgin. But I can't see Elgin getting the PPV title match and losing again, however Cole did beat him clean in September to win the strap. Besides, if they're ever gonna pull the trigger on him, it has to be now. It's been two years since the breakout match with Davey, they can't hold off much longer if he's going to be a main event player, let alone a credible threat to anyone in the future. Also the team of Hanson and Rowe are known as War Machine. I am a fan of this. Can't wait to see them toss around the Young Bucks.
  10. Boy have I ever been sleeping on this thread! I went on a major binge over the past 16 months, finished purchasing the rest of the Malazan, Wheel of Time, First Law Trilogy, Stormlight Archive, The Traitor Son Cycle, The Kingkiller Chronicles, and the entire Shannara series. So now I need to start somewhere! I got through the first Esslemont book alright, actually found it easier to digest than the first Erikson book. However, I've been stuck on Deadhouse Gates for the past three years and just finding it dragging along. Any advice on wanting to pick it back up, since I do own the rest of the series and would like to read it in this lifetime. Almost contemplating just starting over and forcing myself to keep going, would the wiki help? Or some kind of helpful notes until I can familiarize myself with the massive amounts of things going on? Agree on the praise for Stormlight Archive, really enjoying The Way of Kings, about 25% through so far. I like how slow-paced the characters are introduced and doesn't bounce between stories so much. Easy to digest stuff I'd say. Read the first Rothfuss book. HUGE fan. I've been having staring contests with The Wise Man's Fear on my shelf for months, but I don't wanna start it until Book #3 has a release date. Reading The Wheel of Time for the first time, I'm enjoying the first book but I can see the comparisons to Tolkien's stuff with all the walking scenes, leading to.. walking scenes. However I'm finding the action and change of pace occasionally satisfying enough. I'll stop here, but I'm quite glad I found this thread! Cheers!
  11. Horrible bouncing around habit. Got 7 books on the go, just began another one two nights ago. I really need to stay on a book til I finish it, but then I'll buy a shiny new book on release date and it's just a bad cycle for me.
  12. I used to love reading and would do it whenever I had free time. Ironically over the past two years, I've purchased more books than I ever have before, yet I spend the least amount of time reading these days. I'm big on the long fantasy trilogies/sagas, so they're quite time consuming as well as having a sharp memory to recall names and places. I find I get burned out on those and will switch to something a bit easier to digest. I'm contemplating spending weekends on the couch with a book to get my reading time back up to normal.
  13. I don't know who you're arguing against, because not one person in this topic has said that. I'm arguing against anti-ROH in general. It just bothers me that people won't give the new stuff a chance, I guess. Sorry for the rant, but I hate seeing good wrestling get buried simply because it's not what it was.
  14. It's live, not on a tape-delay like all their old TV PPV's were.
  15. I think ROH's problem is that TV isn't compelling at all because there's nothing to build it to. They show most of the big show stuff on TV anyways, so what makes it so special? Heard Steen/Elgin was fantastic two weeks ago, and would have spent money to see it. But why does it matter when it's on TV two weeks later anyways. If ROH starts developing angles leading to matches people want to see, then this model will work much better. The HDNet TV stuff was fantastic because there were iPPV's every three months. The in-ring talent is fine right now, and the tag team division is good. People just like to bitch and moan that "Oh it's not CM Punk or Bryan Danielson" Well no shit, and I think we'd have burned out on Punk and Danielson ROH matches a long, long time ago if they didn't move on to bigger and better things. Change is good people. Also, the Young Bucks kick ass.
  16. So they made a pretty big news announcement this afternoon.... Baltimore, MD (April 17, 2014) – Ring of Honor Wrestling Entertainment, LLC (“ROH”) today announced that they have agreed to deliver live Pay-Per-View programming starting with Ring of Honor: Best in the World 2014 emanating from Nashville, TN on Sunday June 22nd at the Nashville Fairgrounds. For the first time ever, fans will be able to experience a marquee ROH event live at home via all major cable or satellite providers and witness next generation wrestling innovation, epic rivalries and world championship bouts. Ring of Honor: Best in the World 2014 will feature the likes of: Matt Hardy, Kevin Steen, the Briscoe Brothers, ROH World Champion Adam Cole, “Unbreakable” Michael Elgin, Jay Lethal, as well as, Playboy cover girl and the first woman of ROH, Maria Kanellis and other elite wrestlers from ROH. The start time for Ring of Honor: Best in the World 2014 is 8 p.m. EST / 5 p.m. PST with a runtime of 3 hours. The event is rated TV-14 and will be available in High-Definition. The suggested retail price is $24.95 (SD).
  17. Since The Shield is gonna beat the shit out of them at a "special event" I'm fine with Evolution making their return and trying to get a little heat. Crowd kinda sucked though.
  18. Financially, Cornette's plan made a lot of sense. It'd be better than that shitty Baltimore venue that looks awful on TV. At least they've started doing TV tapings at practically every show these past five months. Makes it hard to want to spend $15 on the VOD when you practically get 5 out of the 7 matches on TV.
  19. Also, I definitely took the late bus to the online message board/review party. I recall 1wrestling being awful on Netscape Navigator on school computers, and being flabbergasted that RAW was a taped show. I think the first message board I went to was CZWFans. *fashionably late to the online party*
  20. It's really the under 25s who are dreadful. Those of us born in the 80s are alright. Yeah! Screw the under 25s! (is 26) I remember in '97, I found a Wrestling Superstars magazine from 1985 and thought it was the holy grail. Or I'd go rent Starrcade '86 on VHS and be clueless I was missing at least 90 minutes of the full event! We didn't have wikipedia, we went out and learned it through hours of reading and watching (mostly because our friends were as clueless as we were) Alvarez talking about anything except WCW is horrendous (since I'd hope he had to do SOME research for that book) I'll get off my soapbox now, but I had to get that off my chest. I feel better now, btw I'm 28.
  21. The last two posts are filled with metal. New Triptykon stuff sounds good on first listen.
  22. I'm perfectly fine with Eric Young beating Magnus for the TNA World Title down the line.
  23. I'm not too good at this posting a picture thing, but here's a shot of me last November.
  24. I was there live for the Goldust match, it was a fantastic comeback performance, and I'm glad he got a full-time gig out of it.
