I've been bouncing between Perlstein's NIXONLAND (which i probably can't talk about without getting the mods' hackles up) and David Craddock's LONG LIVE MORTAL KOMBAT (which is fucking awesome. He got interviews not only with most of the MK1-4 staff but a lot of the martial artists too.) I've been stuck for a bit on the chapter about Dan Pesina's history with the franchise and his seemingly-ahistorical claims, though.
Once I finish one or both, my next nonfiction is Michael Molcher's I AM THE LAW, about the relationship between Judge Dredd and RL law enforcement issues. (Vast oversimplification, obviously.)
Fiction-wise, I'm getting ready to finally start A JUST DETERMINATION, the first in John Hemry's space-opera JAG legal thrillers, which I have been meaning to read for 9 years now.
Its been a long time since I read Nixonland, but I liked it.

Shoot, I was hoping for SLC. . . .

The interesting part as always is to find out if Diggs skills are declined or if he was just checked out. From November onward he only had two TDs and never had over 90 yards in a single game. That covers 11 games, including playoffs. He wasn't getting the separation he used to and things were just "off." I have no ill will towards him, I hope he plays well in Houston, I just don't know if he had a drop off in skill which can happen or was letting his emotions impact his play.
He had a huge drop in the KC playoff loss, too. The Bills are probably taking a step back this season, but more touches for the TE's, especially Kincaid isn't a bad thing. It is what it is. . . .

I thought Frozen Empire was a lot of fun. The whole thing was pieced together a lot like after life, but that's not a complaint. A fun time at the movies and the reviewers are high on crack. . . .

Not for nothing, but everyone should be very aware, the Pete Rose case changed. About 6-7 years ago, baseball was ready to welcome him back ...then he was (credibly) accused of having initiated a sexual relationship with a girl who was under 16 in 1973. (Age of Consent back then was 13.)
And that story keeps popping up whenever he shows up anywhere, and he keeps having worse and worse reactions, for example...
So, while this started with him just being a gambler (who probably bet on his own team), it's not that any more. And yeah Pete Rose is never getting in while he's alive. And then probably not for a long, LONG time afterwards.
They haven't put joe jackson in either. . .

I won't lie, it's my first thought. Whatever it turns out to be, it's bad, and if it involves gambling on baseball, he's toast, in public opinion anyway. It's not 1927, where the can cover it up. It might not be worst case scenario, but if it is. . . .

Can't be another movie; Bond's dead.

I'd rather give Kenny a year with Arthur Smith. Say what you will, but Pickett was 7-4 as a starter last year. And had a few clutch drives to win games. And he would've won the 2 Trubisky games. Maybe I'm an optimist. Draft another stud for the O-line this year, and if Kenny doesn't work out, there is really good protection for whoever is the starter in 2025.
Cause he did SO much for Desmond Ridder. . .

Not really "news" because he had said before but forever reason everyone decided to run with as a story yesterday
Rob Manfred stated that this will be his last term as MLB commissioner. His term will end January 2029
Other things from the couple of interviews he has given over the last couple of weeks
- He will be "disappointed" if the Athletics are not ready to move to Vegas for 2028.
- Related to that point - since the schedule for 2025 will be finalized in July, Manfred said the As have to have their location secured before then
- He wants to get all the TV rights figured out first before starting the process of expansion
- He thinks baseball should have a FA deadline (ie: you have to sign by a certain time) because of course he does
- He also thinks all the players will love the new uniforms. They just aren't used to them yet
What an ASSHOLE. . .
