  1. Brooklyn 99 is hilarious. Y'all been sleepin'.
  2. IIRC, "Australian Rules" became a widely used term for a tag match in the early days of wrestling, because one of the first popular tag teams was the original incarnation of the "Fabulous Kangaroos" - who were obviously Aussies. I believe that they became synonymous with one-guy-out/one-guy-in and having to make contact in the corner in order for partners to switch. Thus it became known as "Australian Rules". Some of this may just be legend, more so than fact...
  3. Did the fourth series of Misfits ever turn up anywhere? I watched the first three on Hulu...
  4. Y'know what really surprised me in Blackfish? I always thought folks that worked with the animals in those shows (and at the park taking care of the animals) were like some uber-educated marine biologists or something. While they didn't specifically address this in the film, it was pretty clear that wasn't the case... seems more often than not these were just folks that randomly ended up in a show with killer whales.
  5. One is a cold desolate place full of people that have given up and learned to live with suffering... and the other is Russia!
  6. _ichigan gets to go over in fiction, because it jobs hard in real life.
  7. How can we have a serious discussion about Jamie Foxx without a mention of Motherfucker Jones?
  8. The Jeremy Irons/Robert DeNiro flick? That's some good, sad shit right there.
  9. Did Broadchurch ever air in the US? They played a ton of commercials for it when I was watching Orphan Black on demand, but Broadchurch never became available. Speaking of which.... Orphan Black was Canadian, so that counts for this thread, right?
  10. Haven't watched TNA in months, but I checked this out. Not a bad show, but lots of filler. Lots of angle advancement.
  11. Long story short: Geiger (and all Buckeye supporters, honestly) were worried that if Clarett left AZ to go home, he wouldn't make it back in time for the BCS game. I'm more than sure all the "thugs life" stuff factored into Geiger lying to Clarett to keep him in AZ. Obviously Clarett going public against Geiger about this pissed Geiger off... so when the (relatively) minor theft/car issue came about, Geiger laid down the hammer to show Clarett how big his dick was. Geiger knew Clarett was thinking about going to NFL as soon as he could, so he intentionally tried to damage his stock. If he accepted his suspension, he would have had to play another year before declaring. If he tried to declare after sitting out a year, it would (and did) lower his draft status. If he tried to transfer, he would have to sit out yet another year, and would be in the same situation as far as draft status. Geiger did what he did to put the screws to a kid that professionally and publicly embarrassed him. And, it probably planted the seed in Tressel's mind that if any of his guys were in a similar situation, keep it under wraps or it will go nuclear, even if it can be explained with a (relatively) minor punishment.
  12. As far the Clarett 30 for 30... I went to Ohio State and graduated a few years before Tressel & Clarett. I had quite a few opportunities to spend time around AD Andy Geiger, and the man couldn't be a bigger prick. Fucking asshole. My impression was always that Clarett was kind of a one & done type guy because he was all about the cash... "using" OSU just to get to the NFL. In hindsight though, that idea comes from jealousy about "what might have been?" had he stayed. I think it was a good 30for30, but not one of the best. Maybe the mist brutally honest from the athlete's point of view though....
  13. My initial thought when watching was that Juice was gonna scrub the crimescene to clear Jemma, and then blow his head off there to make it look like a murder/suicide, and at the same time going out "for the MC"... But him just hiding the murder weapons just puts the onus in Jax and let's Jemna off Scotfree.
  14. Does anyone remember Little Big League? Was from right around the same time as Angels In the Outfield and Rookie of the Year. The gist was the guy that owned the Minnesota Twins dies and leaves the team to his teenage grandson, who then names himself manager.
  15. And hopefully he's not 5'7", 170lbs. doing Superkicks & Shooting Stars. There's something to be said for a weeding out process, tho.Danielson worked my home promotion for nearly the entirety of 2001. During that time, he was the second-or-third best worker in the promotion. The best guy was called Chance Beckett, who most notably had a big standout in the Super 8 tournament in 2003, I think. After that, he got some bookings in RoH, but for whatever reason (probably family), he couldn't/didn't take them. He was (is?) a terrific worker who is calm and collected in the ring, knows his limits, makes his opponents look terrific, and has great charisma, but if he couldn't make RoH commitments, he probably wasn't going to be a WWE star, even if he is better than, say, Jinder Mahal. I am 100% behind a getting process, don't get me wrong. There are tons of guys out there that want to be big time tv wrestlers, but don't want to travel... And that is impossible to work for most major groups. At the same time "send stuff to WWE" is kinda shortsighted. It would be like if the NFL only scouted the SEC, and anyone playing ball in another conference was just told to send stuff in to get looked at.
  16. There are hundreds upon hundreds of "indy workers" out there that deserve a break into something higher profile: WWE, Japan, Mexico, whatever. The fact is that most guys never get a look or a break. WWE just keeps going back to the ROH well... because that is easy. Plus, some of those guys (Punk, Danielson, etc) have a built in fanbase that can help them get over quick. That is something a guy busting his ass working indy shows in Michigan doesn't have.
  17. My two cents: PPV is a dead technology. Wrestlemania is an exception because it has the advantage of the 30 year history of being an "event", like the Super Bowl or Final Four, so it will always have an audience. The death of PPV is a direct result of the availabilty of high speed internet and streaming sites. Everyone has pretty much summed up all the reasons why. But to expend the area of discussion, people don't have the same viewing/buying habits as they did 10 years ago. Because of DVR/DVD/Netflix, people now binge watch episodic tv, and networks/media outlets pay top dollar for live events that draw viewers. The same thing that has happened (and is still happening) to TNA's PPV business will happen to WWE, it will just take longer because their business is bigger. People already often mention how it feels like a ripoff when PPV matches pop up on Raw the week or two after - that isn't going to change. Fewer and fewer people will buy PPV, and eventually it will become cost prohibitive for WWE to produce them, and they will stop. Look at it this way: if NBC Universal is willing to pay WWE $1M each week to produce Raw, at what point will WWE stop pumping their own money into producing a PPV on their own dime? What will end up happening is that when WWE's tv rights pop up for negotiation again, they will leverage the ratings that Raw has for a third tier cable network under that media conglomerate's umbrella. For example, a timeslot for Raw on a major cable network (USA, TNT, FS1, etc) and the "WWE Network" will be a part of that company's cable/satelite package. This is what has happened with college sports, the EPL, MLB, NFL, NHL, NBA, etc., and the same will happen with WWE. The biggest hinderance will be if they rely on the idea they are "episodic television" or an "action adventure soap opera"... because networks will shy away from that because they can't package the programming in an effective way to suit customer needs.
  18. I dunno if Mycroft & Moriarity are related yet... Could just be different "big bads" for different seasons.
  19. There was a pretty cool "Very Special" episode of Blossom (I know) where Joey seriously contemplates getting on the juice so he can have an edge playing college baseball... and he turns to Mr. T for advice.
  20. Anarchy was the new name for Wildside after Behrens sold his interest to work for WWE. I've worked there, but it was back in...... '04? '05? It was back when Michaels was still booking, and Behrens was "scouting" for TNA. I'm old.
  21. Seriously, how dumb do you have to be to send money to a junkie, and expect to get it back/have a "promise" kept? Definition of a mark getting worked.
  22. The thing with selling your own poop is, you have to resist the urge to flood the market. Keep supply limited, and the price high.
  23. Shit... I will be all up in this thread. So much good stuff out there. I will try to be impartial and avoid stuff I was involved with :-).
