  1. I think he picked up on the irony of Kevin Steen keeping Kayfabe alive.
  2. As obvious as it is, I hope that Greta Gerwig is going to be Barney's #31.
  3. There's a great Benoit match at RAW as well in that same week. May of 2001 was great for free TV wrestling: Benoit/Austin Twice Benoit/Jericho vs HHH/Austin TLC 3
  4. Granted, it was like a two month type deal, but Ricky Steamboat during his Wrestlemania 25/Backlash feud with Jericho definitely qualifies. Neither matches were classics, but Steamboat showed he could still outwork 80% of the roster.
  5. I don't think he's being intended to be a character that we care about, and the writing's not helping. He ends up falling more in the XPAC "get off my tv screen" heat more so than true heel heat.
  6. It's been forever since I've seen it, so I cannot speak to any real meaningful segments, but wouldn't Bret Hart vs. Bob Backlund where Backlund wins the title be one of the standard bearers for something like this?
  7. Since I mentioned it, I will say Yes to World's Greatest Tag Team vs. Rey Mysterio and Billy Kidman from Vengeance 2003. Vengeance '03 was one of the better cards the WWE has ever done with four buzz-worthy matches.I enjoyed the competitiveness and the nuances throughout the match. For some reason, I remember Kidman/Mysterio winning this match, so I fell for the false finish with the springboard Avalanche Rana. Early on, the match establishes the roles of both teams. with Kidman/Rey playing the fiery babyfaces, and WGTT as the aggressive, calculated challengers. The high spots were plentiful but rarely felt overdone. There was a great sequence with both teams blocking the other's signature spots, and Kidman's SSP was something to behold. Check this one out if you have never seen it. EDIT: I also wanted to throw a YES to Shawn Michaels/Diesel vs. 1-2-3 Kid/Razor Ramon 10/30/94 I honestly would not have expected this to be terribly great. Most of the Shawn/Diesel stuff I saw was in 95 when I started watching wrestling. I do not recall it being anything spectacular. This was a good outing from all four guys who played to each other's strengths. Shawn/Diesel prove to be the experienced team, which is what you want from a defending heel team. They use every trick in the book to get this crowd behind Razor/Kid. The segments of missed officiating with Kid pleading his case only add to the effectiveness. Once Shawn accidentally takes out Diesel, the crowd comes unglued and is completely convinced that they are going to see new champs. Every near fall is milked for every millisecond, and the crowd falls for each one of them. The finish is clean, but it is treated like the dirtiest heel move in all of heel moves because Shawn survived just long enough for Diesel to separate Kid from his head. Well done.
  8. "Wish You Were Here" - Pink Floyd "Trouble" - Ray LaMontagne "Babe I'm gonna Leave You" - Led Zeppelin "Yellow Ledbetter" - Pearl Jam "Hallelujah" - Jeff Buckley's version
  9. I tend to avoid the movie and tv show threads unless I am completely caught up or have seen said show or movie. Then again, I like watching things fresh.
  10. The concluding match to the No Mercy match is really good as well. 2/3 Falls on the 11/7/02 Smackdown. For about a year, those tag titles had some really good matches.I remember Haas/Benjamin vs Rey/Kidman from Vengeance 03 being solid as well.
  11. I thought it was a great first episode back and is continuing the season six finale's idea of shattering the Don Draper illusion. The episode really flew by to the point that I was surprised when we reached the final commercial break. Also, as lost as Don seems to be, poor Roger Sterling is just a wreck. You have a feeling his death will happen before this series ends.
  12. So basically, don't let you attach Knights of the Rounds with Quad Materia.
  13. The Giver has a shot to be a big deal. I know a lot of people that had to read it in Middle School or High School.
  14. Both AMW vs. XXX Cage matches. The Jarrett/Raven feud until they didn't pay it off with Raven going over. The Destination X PPV where Aries won the title. As a Styles Mark, I loved AJ beating Jarrett two months after they ruined the Raven Feud. I actually thought that TNA produced a lot of fun episodes in '03 for their weekly PPV show.
  15. I'll pick five off the top of my head that I always seem to end up stopping to watch. I would not say that these films are not necessarily anywhere near my favorites of all times but are just films I get sucked into on Cable TV. A Few Good Men (I tend to always catch it towards the ending courtroom scene). Pulp Fiction (My favorite film, so this might be the exception to this list). For Love of the Game (I stumble upon this on t.v. once every 2-3 years and watch the whole thing). Face/Off (A film I just take for what it is). The Departed (I just love Leo's performance in this)
  16. Say what now? You never know. He could have brought some of that zombie voodoo shit back with him from NOLA. Or I could be just exhausted after driving 5 1/2 hours back home. Oops.
  17. I am happy I did both RAW and Mania in New Orleans this weekend. Those two crowds were just amazing, and I thought this crowd did a better job of being hot and vocal while also falling within WWE's narrative, which shows that creative was prepared, and they knew they were dealing with a less enraged and bored crowd. Plus, is there a better guy to handle a crowd's anger at something than Paul Heyman? That was seventh degree black belt heel promoing to the point that you had to start popping for what he was doing mid-way through. I need to decompose and then I might write down some live thoughts for both shows later. Also, that will probably be the loudest pop the Diva's division gets for another two years.
  18. I'll be interested to watch this show on the Network later. I was in the Superdome and it was just a surreal atmosphere. Time felt like it froze once Taker was defeated. People in the crowd were confused. A few people popped because it seemed like Taker kicked out at the last possible second, and then silence, and then commotion, and then that 21-1 graphic flashed on the monitors before Roberts made it official and Brock's music hit. I am surprised that people are saying it was a bad match. It felt like a good match to me that the crowd was just quiet for throughout because Taker's went felt so anticlimatic, and Brock didn't work his normal chaotic style. I thought the arm work on Lesnar was well done and told a story, and I thought Lesner working Taker's knee was equally as effective but was ultimately meaningless with the finish. Two things I also thought were odd live. I got to my seat in time for the end of the four way tag. The corridors to get to the sections were clogged and tough to navigate. It took at least 30 minutes once I grabbed my souvenir cup to fight everyone just being stuck. With that said, no Anthem or America the beautiful along with no official attendance announcement were two odd things not to happen.
  19. Friend offered to pay for part of my trip, so if I can get my boss to say yes, I'm leaving for New Orleans early tomorrow morning.
  20. Two Words: Spicy Pie Two More Words: Amish Donuts Also, there is some belief (not sure how accurate this is) that Austin might be involved with the CM Punk situation if he appears this weekend but Austin has been predicting that Punk WILL show up at Mania.
  21. For our friends across the Atlantic (and also because it's a bucket list festival for me), here is the Glastonbury lineup! It's not the best lineup they've ever had, but Glastonbury is similar to Bonnaroo in that you go for the environment more than anything.
  22. It's been a rough few weeks on my end. I lost my grandfather at the end of February, work has been stressful, finances have been stressful, and I've encountered some unnecessary family drama. To top it all off, my fiance has had a hard time finding work. Found a part time job to hopefully convert into something else so she can get out of her crummy third shift job at our private hospital (Dothan has two hospitals: A Private Hospital, and a Not for Profit hospital). Finally, my check engine light just came on in my four year old car (I have a 2010 focus that I bought new in December of '09), and it's showing that my car is not heating up enough to appease the thermostat. It took my entire commute to work today to get it to show it was warm ALMOST at mid-level. 2014 needs to get better quickly
  23. Short Term 12 and Upstream Color have been on my "meaning to watch" list for months.
  24. The divisive Man of Steel. I liked Man of Steel and it closed my ballot out. My Dad didn't like it. Personally, I would place Man of Steel among one of the worst films I saw in 2013.
