  1. Don't you have a Crucible on Uranus to go to? What I hate is what I unaffectionally call "The Loop" - when I go long stretches of time without doing anything on offense because I'm too busy running around in a circle reviving my three teammates. I really love The Loop on a hack wave. EDIT: Just got done playing the Platinum strike team with the 5 and 7 guys on XBox. The 5 guy was using a Level 1 character just to show everyone what a badass he was. The other guy in the room had a 1,200 APEX. We started rocky, but finished fine. I swear, I hit a Progenitor on a boss wave with 3 cobras and at least 10 sticky grenades and might have taken his shields down. Maybe. It was lunacy. The Avenger is a great choice for Platinum, but your role changes from offensive to support. I did the Hack at 2 and the Devices at 6 along with a ton of reviving.
  2. The game has gamed us about half to death. Gold gets a little hairy at times, but is manageable unless your teammates are completely stupid. Platinum is just this "holy shit" spectacle. I passed on the Platinum APEX mission because it was against Remnant - I have a hard time against Destroyers in Gold, much less 10 a wave in Platinum.
  3. OK, played me a lot more Platinum this afternoon. What I found out is that you can go into Platinum like you would any other level and not strategize much and finish, but it will be a haul and you will need lots and lots of luck. I played as a Juggernaut (team recommendation, not my favorite) - he's tanky, but I have to give his loadout more thought. Also played as the Avenger - did fine, could've done better, could've done worse. Figured out how to do Avenger Strikes in Platinum - carefully. They're most effective late in the wave when you're not diving into a pile of four enemies, obviously. There's that little stairway near where everybody tends to hover on the left-hand side of the screen on Derelict (the old ship), right? I was joined in that tiny hallway by two Hydras and a Krogan at one point. I think I was out of RPGs. That's another thing - you go in like that, you better have a full selection of consumables and know you're gonna use them all. I would at least recommend that everyone stay on the same half of the map to make reviving easier, and that everyone wait to use a revive until you're about to get stomped or it's obvious no one's gonna save you. Revives are precious, precious things. You will use them all. I'm mixed about staying together if you don't have a solid plan - it's an enemy magnet. Sometimes it helped to basically get as far away from everyone as possible in order to draw some of the heat away from everyone else. I died twice in one game just trying to zoom around the map and stay out of trouble during extraction. You can't really stay out of trouble. Trouble is everywhere. I remember once thinking "this is the hardest wave I have played on this game in ages, I don't see how we made it through." It was Wave 2. I think in a situation where the team's not obviously playing together using the Krogan-Krogan Nova method, I'm going with the Avenger specced just like she is now. You do have to shoot tons more. I need to put a ton more thought into weapons. It's crucial to be able to slip out of a room undetected when the Hydras start stacking up like cord wood. Unfortunately, it's nearly impossible to find people to play Platinum, and usually when you do, it's people with 1,400 APEX ratings playing Level 12 characters.
  4. The developers said buying a 500K premium pack was exactly the same as buying 5 100K premium packs individually - no increased odds. Since I don't wanna buy premium packs, I wanna buy reserves packs, I passed on the offer and kept buying reserves. I'm 43 ultra-rare character cards away from having them all to XX.
  5. If all your other Rares are up to XX, and I'd bet they are, you would've gotten five of the new character with five reserves packs. I got her in the 20 packs I bought after she came out, like clockwork. She's at XX-Level 1 because I haven't fooled with playing her yet. I've been having decent luck getting ultra-rare characters lately, but they're not ones I want. I think I have the Asari up to XVI and the Gladiator up to XV. That's fine, it gets them out of the way. I just played a couple of games with a 41,000-APEX guy who just kept getting killed over and over again. All of them were getting killed with such frequency that I began thinking they were in it together playing a joke on me watching me run around like a chicken with my head cut off trying to revive them all.
  6. Technically, it's Funeral March of a Marionette, but it's much better known as the Alfred Hitchcock Presents theme.
  7. Can't believe I missed this the first time 2,000 years ago, but the Michael drug trip sequence in GTA 5 is backed perfectly by "Shine a Light."
  8. We'll have this Shield nostalgia stuff for a while until one of them turns on the other two again. Ambrose, maybe?
  9. Gotta admit I didn't see it, only read about it, and haven't been following the stuffing instead of potatoes closely, but ... Is Nakamura just dead in the water now? How long does he have to serve in his WWE sentence before he can go back to NJPW?

    Tom Petty

Funny thing about "Mary Jane's Last Dance" is that it was (I'm sure) accidentally very reminiscent of a Jayhawks song called "Waiting for the Sun." He had the Jayhawks open for him on a tour, and some concertgoers would boo when they'd do that song because they thought the Jayhawks were ripping Petty off. Then later, the Red Hot Chili Peppers ripped off Petty via the Jayhawks with "Dani California."
  11. I always at least kept Drack around because he's just so tanky. Drack and Liam were my go-tos, but if I were doing it again now after everything I've learned about the game, I'd play a lot of stuff differently. Welp, multiplayer folk, I spent about 2 1/2 hours today playing platinums with the top guy in the world on XBox (APEX rating 71,000-something). I think his two buddies were 17 and somewhere around 40 in the world. I think they took a shine to me because I did as told. They let me play the Avenger during the first try, but I fucked up the devices wave and cost us the game. They then had me switch to, of all things, the Kroguard. I respec-ed him per their instructions. This was an awesome setup, but it was by no means easy: One person would play the Avenger and would be the designated "activity wave" guy. He'd handle the hacks, uploads, whatever. He could stand to, because the rest of us were hunkered in a room drawing in every enemy on the map. One guy was the Salarian Operator, spamming shield boosts to the two Kroguards. Each Kroguard would stand at opposite ends of the doorway and just Nova the shit out of anything that came in the room. The shield boost kept the shields high, and the Nova was powered by shields, so you could use it over and over and over again. I only used the charge maybe twice in three hours. They then had a great "strategy" for extraction. We'd gather at one of the ammo boxes, the Avenger would cloak us, then we'd take off for the next ammo box in a pattern dictated by the map. We'd stop at that ammo box, let everyone catch up, get cloaked and take off for the next ammo box. Two laps around Sandstorm like that would put you very near extraction with 10 seconds left. I got killed often at the start, but by the end I'd kinda grown into my role and was actually really, really helping out. There are times where you're in one little room with two hydras, a Krogan and an Ascendant (on loan from the Kett), but you just gotta keep chopping and have faith. One handy tool: The Salarian Operator had that vest on that revives everyone when he revives, so both us Krogans would go down and he'd say (we were in a party chat the whole time) "wait until I get killed and I'll revive us." We even finished two Platinum APEXs - glass jaw and dampened powers. There was one time I somehow got to buy two disappointment packs after finishing one game. That was cool. Now at 200 in the world.
  12. It may be a case of simply not being strong enough to deal with it right now, level-wise and equipment-wise. Who's in your team? Some are obviously hardier than others. I tend to try to save the big stuff for last, if possible. I like trying to get the smaller distractions out of the way first.
  13. Supposedly they've lowered the score needed to finish the tech challenge daily. I gotta show y'all the tech challenge solo campout spot, it's great. I'm looking forward to getting 20 in a row of the new character like I did the last new character. Did the Remnant dungeon APEX, picked the wrong guy, then got a phone call and probably didn't do shit the rest of the game. I looked up, it had started, I looked up, it was over. Glad to help.
  14. They have other writers, but Harmon got the writing credit for Sunday's episode.
  15. The first show to take relatively forever between seasons was Ren and Stimpy. The ending was kind of a cliffhanger - it wasn't "holy shit, I have to see what happens next," but more "oh snap, what is Rick gonna do about this?" His machinations basically led Beth and Jerry to get back together. Jerry (and himself) defeated Rick. Not good for Rick's out of control ego. Show's been trying to paint Beth and Summer as a lot more like Rick and Morty as a lot more like Jerry. Morty's starting to gain some backbone and become his own person, though. Part of making Beth out to be truly Rick's daughter is adding a sociopathic streak.
  16. 20 bucks at this place downtown will fix you right up.
  17. I do the same thing when I arrive at a devices or retrieval shortly after someone. That being invisible helps. I try to make people invisible in hacks, uploads and extractions, but they're usually too busy shooting at everything 20 miles away that dares move, so they don't stay invisible long. Oh well, I tried.
  18. You need to come back to Andromeda. The five people worldwide still playing could use some company. EDIT: Speaking of bad teammates, a quote from today's session (thankfully not on game chat) by me: "OK, guys, I've carried you through six waves, the least you can do is extract."
  19. I think I'm just old and my reflexes are terrible, but Cuphead is a frustrating struggle for me. After about 10 tries and failures during a battle, I'm screaming curse words I thought I'd forgot. I've beaten two bosses on easy. The more I play the firsr run and gun, the worse at it I get. Still, gorgeous game, and I'm happy to support its existence.
  20. I realize I'm playing with fire here, but I just had the best time playing a few games with some rare random who talked on the game chat. I can't help it. I dunno if it's some kind of leftover effect from GTA Online, but if I hear someone in the Andromeda MP game chat coming through my TV (and it's very rare), I have to hear what they're saying, so I dive for the headphones. This kid was an absolute blast. Maybe 18-20, wasn't an obnoxious kid at all. I knew it was gonna be entertaining because his username was something like "discoverTHC" or something like that, so he was probably baked. Plus, he was basically talking to no one in particular for about 5 waves before I started talking. He kept telling us about his bronze weapon mods (the ones you buy with mission funds) and in what situations he prefers to use bulwark vs. siphon weapons, etc. Total play-by-play. Anyhoo, I start talking and he's telling me about how he usually plays platinum, etc. (APEX rating was a hefty 40,000), but he needed gold waves for the dailies. Then the fun begins. He starts giving me advice on where he likes everyone to go on particular maps. I follow him into his favorite place to go on Firebase Zero, and we proceed to get our heads kicked in. After about 2 first aids and 2 revives, I'm saying to myself "uh, I think I'm just gonna go over here," and I left him flat. He kept basically talking about how good he was, but the thing was, he kept on and kept on getting killed. It was hilarious. I'm basically doing my thing - revive, revive, shank, revive, do the objectives, revive - just all over the place keeping the whole thing going while Captain Platinum is getting killed every 15 seconds. That said, he seemed like a good little stoner.
  21. I always forget cobras can kill several little things, and aren't just for the big boys.
  22. All I wanted was to put this game behind me, so I buy Cuphead and I'm all like "fuck Andromeda," right? But Cuphead is a "reflex" game and is absolutely harder than hell and completely frustrating. After about five minutes, I have to stop for fear of trying to fling my controller through the TV. So I go back to Andromeda. Gold strike team, Remnant. Half my team sucks, but we should have it. Until ... Wave 3, devices. The remnant are camping out at the fourth device. When I tried to get it, I'd be knocked off by a breacher despite being invisible. When my teammates tried, they died. So we failed. I nearly grabbed my headset and said "none of you people move, us four are finishing this." It reminded me of rapidly pressing the "restart" button when you stupidly fail a GTA Online mission. I wanted blood. So I pulled out all the stops - three revives, RPGs and ammo packs. We got upload in the third, and wound up extracting. I love that "oh hell no" feeling I get sometimes when I fail. It's like taking the gloves off.
