  1. I haven't been on this board in ages, and I'm honestly a little surprised I even remembered my login info, but I wanted to stop by and pay some respects. Such sad news. Found this board back when it was still green when I had just started college twenty years ago. It was an introduction to a whole other world of wrestling beyond what I could watch on TV, and DEAN was such a great influence and teacher for that. He had such a gift for writing and his obvious enthusiasm made you want to track down the matches and wrestlers he'd talk about. And outside of wrestling, I discovered all sorts of bands like The Gun Club and The Birthday Party because of DEAN. Also was a big fan of his old SOUTHERN ALCOHOL COMIX back in the day. Just such an all around cool guy. He had a real measurable impact on my life and I'm very grateful for that. Wish I had let him know it. Dusting off some old Schneider Comps tonight. RIP DEAN. My condolences to his family and his friends.
  2. I haven't been around here in forever, but I thought I'd stop by today. Today is my 30th birthday (damn, I was in my teens when I joined here...*cue "Landslide"*) and when I heard about the news, I figured I'd leave work early, crack open a 12 pack of High Life, and watch some Dusty. It's what I've been doing for about four hours now, and I think I can say that while of course Dusty Rhodes was never the best wrestler in the vein of a Ric Flair or a Ricky Steamboat, he wasn't supposed to be. He was the most entertaining. He was the guy who sucked you in and made you a fan. He's one of the few that people who aren't fans, like my girlfriend, will stop by the TV for and check out. The man was a magnet for attention. I don't obsess over celebrities much, but I wish I could've met him.
  3. I've noticed some very, very minor things on some of the PPVs I've seen a million times from my childhood. I know Wrestlemania IV like the back of my hand, so I thought I'd check it out to see if it was any different on the network, and sure enough, there are a few, mostly uninteresting things that aren't on the old Coliseum Video release. Crowd shots, different editing, things like that. I'd expect similar things for most old shows, but probably nothing notable. It's not like Mean Gene's "Fuck it!" from Summerslam '89 is on there...or is it?
  4. Have you never been to a trailer park? EDIT: My own suggestions...Matchbox Twenty? Everclear? Smash Mouth?
  5. A true dork would catalog all his stuff and be able to post a list online. Circa 2005, I did. http://drainingyouatw.blogspot.com/
  6. In fairness, I don't comment much these days, but I watched every match in this thread. I did not open the Emma thread. Should I have?
  7. I own every Billy Jack movie and I love them all, even Billy Jack goes to Washington (it's not without its merits). I was hoping he'd get to produce or at least be involved with a remake/sequel of some sort, as that was apparently in the works. And I will love this song forever:
  8. Anybody know how Hayabusa's doing these days?
  9. I just recently moved, and in doing so, you get a chance to really see just how much shit you really have, and it's usually a mix of emotions from perplexing to humor to sadness. I have somewhere over 200 wrestling DVD sets, and probably around 150 wrestling tapes, mostly bootlegs. I'm a dork so I count them about once a year and estimate just how much footage I have. I don't have the actual figure in front of me, but it was somewhere around 70 days. Of course, it will never be enough. I don't have a ton of other wrestling memorabilia; maybe somewhere around 30-40 magazines and about a dozen books. Some odds and ends too, but that's about it. I have a small vinyl collection, probably around 50-75 records that I pared down from around 100. Gotta work on that.
  10. I'd be willing to bet money this pic was taken around the same time as this show: WWF @ Kullang, Singapore - Singapore Indoor Stadium - July 21, 1994 Kwang pinned the 1-2-3 Kid with a spin wheel kick Bushwhacker Luke & Koko B. Ware defeated Reno Riggins & Barry Horowitz when Koko scored the pin by reversing a small package Rick Martel pinned Jim Powers by blocking a sunset flip The Undertaker defeated Yokozuna via disqualification when Yoko used his salt bucket as a weapon Tatanka pinned the Barbarian with a roll up WWF Tag Team Champions the Headshrinkers defeated Well Dunn following Fatu's splash off the top WWF World Champion Bret Hart defeated Owen Hart via submission with the Sharpshooter
  11. 28, and I've been here for about 10 years, pre-sleaze anyway. I remember talking to Dean about how at the age of 20, I felt I was wasting my life and being lazy. He told me he remembered next to nothing about being 20, and here I am eight years later, and I can say the same. I still feel like I'm among the youngest people on this board, which is opposite of how I feel on pretty much every other website in the world. Life's funny and good like that.
  12. Went through a folder on my computer full of wrestling photos. Found some good ones. Maybe I'll upload some more tomorrow. Sorry for the huge post, but whatever. That Horseman symbol makes me a little uneasy. Guess who?
  13. YesDrew McIntyre got some shitty tats.
  14. By a similar token, who's got the most famous match?

Kantaro Hoshino and Cobra defeated El Canek and Enrique Vera (10:24 minutes) 6. Super Strong Machine defeated Shunji Takano (9:41 minutes) 7. Kengo Kimura and Seiji Sakaguchi defeated Adrian Adonis and Dick Murdoch by disqualification (9:23 minutes) 8. Special Referee: Danny Hodge - WWF World Heavyweight Title Match: Hulk Hogan © defeated Tatsumi Fujinami (11:04 minutes) 9. Antonio Inoki defeated André the Giant by countout 1985/06/11: CWF @ West Palm Beach West Palm Beach Auditorium in West Palm Beach, Florida (United States of America) 1. Rip Rogers defeated Bugsy McGraw 2. Cowboy Lang and Héctor Guerrero defeated Little Tokyo and Jack Hart 3. Billy Jack Haynes and Bugsy McGraw defeated Rick Rude and Jesse Barr by disqualification 4. The Great Kabuki defeated Gino Hernández 4. Kerry Von Erich defeated One Man Gang It looks like I might have the match that Hogan talks about in his book or first DVD claiming Fujinami was gonna shoot on him, so they were gonna send in Andre to face him to set him straight, and Hogan was like "no, I got this". Also Baby Hash vs. Baby Chono!
  16. Is Kung Fu Saloon still open in Austin? I haven't been there in a year or two, but I always liked that place. Not a huge selection of games, but they got NBA Jam, and sometimes, that's all I need. The best barcade I've ever been to is the Emporium in Chicago. Mostly 80s and 90s stuff, and even a few rarer machines. They even have some homebrew games there that weren't bad. Good beer selection too.
  17. If he hadn't died in 1995, Gilbert probably would've died in 1996 or 1997.
  18. You've got Spring Stampede to look forward to, which is a really good show, and then after that...well...
  19. When I was a kid my dad would take over my Nintendo for days playing Silent Service. He wasn't really much of a gamer (I remember playing Bowling on the 2600 with him and that's about it), but he LOVED that damn submarine game. I bought it for myself a few years ago basically out of nostalgia for those times. We got a 2600 long before we got an NES (actually even got a SNES before too), so I was always more loyal toward Atari than Nintendo, but my favorite NES games was stuff like the Castlevanias (especially the second one), Ninja Gaiden, Arch Rivals, Tecmo Bowl, Skate or Die, Legacy of the Wizard, Blades of Steel, and Tecmo World Wrestling. Of course the Mario games also, but surprisingly I never really got into Zelda. And I really loved M.C. Kids, a vastly underrated game. Probably forgetting one or two big ones, but that's about it.
