MARCH 2024 Wrestling Talk
Niners Fan in CT replied to The Natural's topic in The PROFESSIONAL WRESTLING
I don't know what Barnett's true intentions were but I remembering watching some interviews about this and apparently he was stating to other promoters that because they were still using all Georgia based wrestlers it was no harm, no foul. I've never viewed McMahon as the only promoter looking to monopolize professional wrestling. It seems like several others were attempting to do the same. -

I don't think it was a "work" in the sense that someone told Becky to say all of that. It felt to me like a work/shoot like "I'm facing this person and getting digs in but at the same time telling you the truth about how I feel about her spot" -
I really dislike having six-man tags on PPV and that goes for all companies. I just think they are played out and there's very little stakes to them. House of Black vs. Copeland, Briscoe and Eddie feels like a waste of time. Black vs. Copeland or Eddie vs. Brody would have been a more interesting way for this to play out. If you must have a six man then do it on TV. This isn't the most frustrating of the week, though. It's not just an AEW thing. I couldn't care less about Lashley and Street Profits vs. Karrion Kross and A.O.P.

Unfortunately I cannot find a link on Twitter but Becky had some very strong words for Rhea in an interview about the "viral spot" from last week. https://www.reddit.com/r/SquaredCircle/comments/1brq2cu/becky_lynch_very_emotional_interview_about_the/?utm_source=embedv2&utm_medium=post_embed&utm_content=post_title -
I see they booked Hobbs vs. Ospreay for the Worcester show. That's going to be a very good match but I do think Khan needs to start protecting Hobbs and Takeshita. He doesn't protect the big guys too well and like it or not those are the guys who look like stars. I'm not one of these "everyone needs to be 6'5" and 275 lbs" type of people but when you see Hobbs and Takeshita and see what they are capable of in the ring, it's madness not to protect them.

I don't know if Tony operates this way but they likely overpaid for Adam Cole to pry him away from WWE and with him being one of the first big free agent signings, he might still feel that he's supposed to be one of THE guys in the company. The ROI on that signing right now is at 'The Marvels' or 'The Flash' level. As for Ricky Starks, I argued about how they should be pushing him more for years but I think at this point Tony probably feels Starks is waiting to jump ship so he's stuck in no man's land.

I don't think anyone should be talking in absolutes about the theme because I've heard everything from what you're saying to it being "brilliant" because it conditions fans to want to chant her new moniker and I don't think either side is wrong about it. What I think is wild is how people are already writing this off as "going nowhere" when it's three weeks in and she hasn't wrestled a single match. That's what hate looks like.
-
Cole's stable is the worst stable quite possibly in AEW's short history. They do nothing and have accomplished nothing and there's no direction for them at all. It doesn't help that the only guy who was interesting was Roddy and they pretty much took away what was working for him. Roddy yelling at people was actually funny. Also, nobody gives a shit that O'Reilly is back... I like him but it's a hard sell. Another guy who needs to be in a captivating story line because by himself he's incredibly boring.

That's true too. Anyone saying she "added nothing" is just a hater and can't be taken seriously. She was out there calling moves before they happened like she actually watches the product (because she clearly does watch the product) and her in kayfabe taking the time to scout the Skye Blue's of the world does more for Skye Blue than random matches on Rampage..

The women had a very good fatal 4 way match and it was in the 9 o'clock hour and the reason it was in that spot is because they signed Mercedes. That's not some crazy, hyperbolic statement. These ladies were routinely in the death spot and now they are being elevated above that because they brought in a woman who has main evented a WrestleMania etc.. etc.. Her entire gimmick is that she's the 'CEO' and she's a 'superstar' so why wouldn't the rest of the women want to prove something? Whether that's to show Mercedes and the rest of the world that they are on that level or to just shut her up? You do realize they are billing her as a "5x women's champion"? This isn't WWF in 1988 where someone comes in as a construction worker gimmick and the company completely ignores their past as an accomplished athlete. That's NOT what is happening here. She's coming into the company as THE standard... So yes, a lot of the focus is going to be on her as the others prove themselves one way or another.
-
Also, what were weirdos like Alvarez and Dave expecting out of Mercedes being at the commentary table for the 4-way? She was speaking on the action and how much she wants to mix it up with these women. What else was there to say? She's barely had any interaction with any of them at all and has no matches announced.
-
No, I usually only respond when obsessed weirdos tag me and I see it in my mentions. I'm just not sure if you are more obsessed with her or me. I see you ducked the last time I responded to you, I suppose you didn't want to touch when I brought up how you said Sasha/Mercedes doesn't talk like a "real black girl".. If I was you, I'd have stayed silent too.
-
You sound jealous or something, not a good look for who is supposed to be a grown man. Lol. "A Disney+ show"... haha. We should discuss her walking the runway at the L.A. and NY fashion shows as well. But look, you have an ax to grind, everyone knows it. I'm not going to spend a lot of time on it. You're the guy who once said she sounds like she's a "fake black woman" whatever the hell that means, one of the most suspect things I've ever read on here. She's quite literally FRIENDS with dozens of women's wrestlers, including Bayley, Naomi, Tamina, Natalya, Dr. Britt, Bianca, etc. and Paige said herself she doesn't blame Sasha at all for what happened in that match. But you can pretend "no one likes her" to fit whatever weird narrative you have.
-
It's pretty well known that Saraya was working injured before that match and she was going to be put on the shelf sooner or later. Is now a good time to talk about all the people Charlotte Flair injured such as dropping Sasha on her fucking neck during their SummerSlam match? Lol..... your hate on is weird.

I'm LOVING dickhead Okada but at the same time Eddie didn't look like he belonged in the ring with him. AEW has to do better with some of these people's attire... Eddie looked like he was an indy wrestler working for $5 and a hot dog. I like him and he's a great promo but fucksake, invest a tiny little bit into your wardrobe please.
-
Dynamite has been on a hot streak. Everything feels important now. There was very little in the way of throwaway matches or segments. You could argue Jericho/Hook but there was a story there and Hook suplexed him about 47 times so fuck yeah sign me up. Mercedes with another superstar entrance and another CM Punk "happy to be here promo" which is fine for now. I liked her short little promo in the back better putting Willow on notice. Ospreay cut another great promo, I'd like to see him and Danielson in the ring at the same time soon... have a little back and forth before Dynasty. Copeland and Christian was a solid "I Quit" Match. Not my favorite but the crowd was pretty hot for it. All of the women on the Rampage street fight worked their asses off. That was way better than expected.

I was in the building when Private Party pulled off the major upset against the Young Bucks in the first round of that tournament. Let's hope we get another major upset this time around.
