MAY 2016 WRESTLING DISCUSSION THREAD
Lazlo Woodbine replied to RIPPA's topic in The PROFESSIONAL WRESTLING
There seems to have been a solid history of it there from the 30's/40's onwards - as with most of South America - waxing and waning in popularity. Like everywhere else, when Titanes en el Ring started showing locally that became the fashionable style and when that died wrestling on the continent mostly bottomed out. People tried copying that format but it never recaptured the public's imagination. They get WWE on tv like many places and that became the main influence for indy companies from the 90's onwards. I'd guess what popularity there is now is people watching WWE on telly, and the indy companies themselves steadily growing their crowds and improving in quality. Access to the internet seems to have broadened horizons a bit and the scene is as much influenced by Mexico and Japan as the USA now. So, eh, I couldn't really say how popular it is nationally, but it's definitely growing, and the fans are passionate about it. There's loads of google translate mangled info to be had online. I wish Momo still posted here. In short - boom and bust, currently on a decade or so long slow upward swing. -
Ooft, myself and a couple of friends still refer to a nut shot as being "Keithed in the Hackneys"

Our beloved Barood is apparently in charge of the oldest traditional wrestling school in India, and does a bit of acting in Marathi language films. More big pics - -

YOUR 2015 INTERNET MATCHES OF THE YEAR THREAD
Lazlo Woodbine replied to DEAN's topic in The PROFESSIONAL WRESTLING
I didn't know that there was an Alexander Otsuka 20th anniversary show, had to venture back onto VEOH to see it though. Otsuka/Yone vs Funaki/Sugiura Murakami/Zeus vs Sekimoto/Super Tiger Minoru Tanaka vs Katsumi Usuda Rest of the show is there too. The Yuki Ishikawa video message after the main event is something else. -

Matrix/D-Man is a young Canadian guy wrestling for Zero-1 and documenting it in a vlog type way. Shogun Okamoto is another IGF refugee. Jordynne Grace is wrestling Sonya Strong next month, someone is clearly reading my thoughts. -
Dude coughs on some kids after this. What a heel.

That was pretty interesting stuff. I didn't know the MMA stuff was on youtube, if anyone's interested - -
All those bloody extreme tracks on Trials HD, you could spend half an hour utterly failing to get past an awkwardly placed box. I played the other Trials games but didn't even bother with the extreme ones. A friend of mine crushed an xbox controller with his bare hands playing Fusion. Some of the challenges in Skate 2 and 3 were murder too, trying to judo kick pedestrians at whatever speed you needed to be going. F1 Career Challenge for the Gamecube - never got past the qualifying stage, never played it again. All that stuff where you're throwing goons from high places on Wrestlemania 19. Peggle, fucking Peggle.

I only ever saw a condensed youtube video on it. A few minutes long with a Japanese voiceover. The whole thing was confusing. That doc seems to still be available on a Highspots set.

Joey Barton's old tweets mean it'd be for the best if he never went out in Glasgow.

Another question - how many Rey Misterio's are/were there? I just watched this, does that make six? Like, Sr, Jr, these 3 and the guy that's now Rey Horus?

When the only guy you recognise is Wotan, you know you've got lucha indie sleaze. -
On an unrelated note - They set the car on fire not long after that, there was a guy with a big stick keeping the flames from the canvas roof. Great fun.

There's so many options though.

What's the deal with Diamante Azul? He lives in France but doesn't wrestle there, even though CMLL have some kind of deal with one of the French feds. Does he have a regular job there or something?

Putting this here as it ties to a post I made on page 24 - it's the Togo/Viloni return match for the 100% Lucha title.
