TIL there's somebody who's first and last name match my first and middle name and apparently took part in making some women's wrestling hall of fame list. Fuckin WEIRD.

Granted, not as weird as some creep Googling board members for dirt but 🤷🏻😂

So you're not the con artist of the same name from Manchester, NH who took money from my friend then?

    My mistake

    Full apologies

    That guy fucking sucks

Oh it's gonna keep coming. This shit is like pure Colombian for the wrestling jOuRnAlIsTs ❄️👃🤼📰

Almost as fabricated as your biography.

Still no Japanese women in your Women's Wrestling Hall of Fame?

Any vet...shit any person with common sense is going to shut the whole glass thing down unless there are trained professionals who deal with using glass around or you're using props involving fake glass.

I don't think anyone's arguing that in a proper company with proper safeguards with a proper hierarchy, someone would step in. But the hierarchy wasn't changed to prevent self-harm, it was changed to prevent "laziness". Fuck that.

If a wrestler feels the need to self-harm in order to get time off, that's a much bigger problem with the company in general. You shouldn't have to put yourself through glass or punch Sammy Guevara in order to get a vacation.

Motherfucker, they don't have a union to begin with. What are you talking about?

Maybe he was trying to self-harm, and instead of handling that properly, Punk just called him lazy and made self-harming illegal

Shame the "we support mental health" crew sides with the bully in that situation

Sorry, the news is moving fast, I meant the fresh news about people apparently asking Punk to step in and tell JB not to fuck around with real glass for a spot.

This is the quote I found, not sure what news site it's from:

According to those on the side of Punk, Perry wanted to use real glass for a backstage segment. Punk was of the belief that he did this so he didn’t need to come to work the next week, which he sees as a big problem in the company.

Per Punk’s side of things, Perry was going against production, doctors and Tony Schiavone advising him not to do it and them telling him that smashing real glass was a safety hazard, and Perry wasn’t happy with that. Shortly after, there were guidelines put in place and forwarded to talent of things that required clearance

Didn't Angle want to try to go back to the Olympics after he was in the wwf?

He took a break from TNA to train for the 2012 Olympics, but he said he realized he had no upper body strength left after his numerous injuries and stopped after a couple months

The stories saying Punk was aggressive and demanding that Nemeth say it to his face describe the vibe as strange and off-putting. Not scary or potentially violent.

Was it both Nemeth brothers who are strong NCAA wrestlers, or just Dolph?

Punk is the ultimate "fake it till you make it" guy - average skills, but talks a huge game

Tried to fight Teddy Hart - got his ass kicked

Tried to be a UFC fighter - got his ass kicked

In an environment where no one's going to step forward and kick his ass, of course he's going to run his mouth

I could absolutely see Rush and Andrade not dealing with his shit, so Punk specifically requesting them for Collision might come back to bite him

Basically, if it doesn't blow up in the next month or two, especially as they get towards the moment of contract renewal, Punk's going to be more ingrained in the company than ever. It's not a matter of "how long will Khan put up with this?" It's kind of the opposite.

I think Punk expected Omega/Hangman/Bucks to leave the company, and now that they've decided to stick around, he's going to make their lives difficult

This shit kind of reminds me of those stories you hear about Dean Harmon when he was the show runner for “Community.” Nobody cared that he was a weird sex pest when he alienated Chevy Chase, because Fletch 1.0 was a boorish asshole. But eventually the juice stopped being worth the squeeze with him. I wonder at what point the same becomes true for Noble Phillingham. (Yes, that’s a Walker Texas Ranger shout in 2023)

Chevy Chase wanted his character on Community to be less racist, and when he left a voicemail for Dan Harmon referring to his character's lines as "n****r jokes", Harmon released the voicemail publicly and said "lol listen to this, Chevy's a racist because he said the n-word!"

Chevy was morally trying to do the right thing, but fucked up by using the old-timey term for racist jokes

Not sure what this has to do with AEW

  10. Article about the flaws of Western leadership - tell me this doesn't describe Tony to a tee:

    https://www.nakedcapitalism.com/2023/08/analyzing-apparently-irrational-behavior-in-western-elites.html

Greer had a slightly different take, observing that western elites “are stuck in habits of thought that make it impossible for them to do anything useful in a crisis.” He called the problem “stormtrooper syndrome” because children of the western elite are brought up thinking that bad people, like the Imperial Stormtroopers in Star Wars, can’t possibly shoot straight. Since bad people always lose and good people always win, the way to win is to define yourself as a good person rather than making rational decisions or ensuring that you have the material necessities for success. In other words, being woke (or anti-woke, if that is your ideological thing, I think it applies both ways) matters more than being competent, to the point where competence is not even on the radar.

Tony Khan should not be tolerating any of this but hey I'm not a kid who was left billions by his Dad to start up a wrestling company so he can do what he wants.

If you've never seen the raw footage of the Gordon Scozzari AWF taping from Lowell, MA circa-1991, track it down. It's like 4 hours long, Scozzari is the ring announcer, and at some points between matches Scozzari disappears backstage and the camera catches wrestlers behind the curtain holding him up for money. MIKE LANO randomly puts on a turban and comes out as Sabu's manager cutting promos. The whole thing is a trip.

AEW reminds me of that on a much, much larger scale. Someone here suggested last week that RVD get signed and be put on Collision. RVD said that when he got suspended for his drug arrest in 2006 and dropped the WWE/ECW titles, when he came back a month later, Punk had taken over the locker room. RVD is not a politician.

Punk's a politician. Jericho's a politician. Tony has Trump-syndrome in that he only takes advice from the last person in his ear, so those who speak the most often get whatever they want. He should probably reign that in, but that would be a rich kid accepting that he's flawed.

Rise and Fall of AEW in a few years is going to be wild

Are wrestling fans in any quantity saying that wrestlers don’t deserve a union or are you making up a guy to be mad at?

LF2 has been Very Mad about Stephen Amell getting roasted for crossing picket lines to promote Heels for a few weeks now, and unfortunately I see his dogshit opinion has started leaking outside of the WGA thread

Wrestling isn’t crossing the picket line. That’s not how it works. If a WGA member decided to write a book during this time that wouldn’t be crossing it either.

Wrestling Fans: Wrestling is not a real sport, it's scripted entertainment!

Also Wrestling Fans: Wrestlers don't deserve a union because they're athletes, not actors!

    ............

Capitalism has broken so many brains in this dumb country
