    MLB 2023 - 2ND HALF

And boy, rage quitting is a real thing. Also waived today - Harrison Bader, Mike Clevinger, Carlos Carrasco, and basically any Angels not named Ohtani or Trout (specifically Lucas Giolito, Matt Moore, Reynaldo López, Hunter Renfroe, Randal Grichuk). Ostensibly this is to give guys a chance to play for a team making the playoffs and to save a few bucks. I'm not sure this is a great look. But here we are.

    MLB 2023 - 2ND HALF

Not only that...though I hear Oakland might be available... The White Sox are angling for...NEW STADIUM HOTNEZZ!!!
  5. Put it in your bicycle spokes? That has to make a badass sound.
  6. This is where I mention....err, DO NOT mention that the Yankees have most of their starting rotation crippled and we know Matt Harvey can handle New York.
  7. MOVING ALONG from HOF talk....see what I did there? Sinclair’s Sports Channels Prepare Bankruptcy, Putting Team Payments at Risk https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2023-01-25/sports-broadcaster-diamond-faces-8-6-billion-debt-reckoning
  8. So I Phil going to lead to charge on kicking out HOFers too? Asking for a friend.
  9. Oof. Am I the only one with HOF PTSD? Asking for a friend. Rolen is an odd bird. He's deserving based on advanced stats - defense and baserunning especially. IF you believe advanced stats. I mean, there are plenty of reasons NOT to believe advanced defensive stats. (Come on, it's 2023, we're not REALLY using GG's as a measure anymore are we? In that case, Derek Jeter got even sexier!) And baserunning stats are sorta...there. But hey, that's all better than nebulous pitch framing. So OK. The problem with Rolen is he is as sexy of a choice as cold oatmeal. Joe Casual fan, with a limited understanding of advanced stats, looks at Rolen being the only one inducted (By the writers. I didn't forget about Fred McGriff!) and goes - Oh, I sort of remember him. Shrug. That's the best they can do? Like it or not, the HOF is SUPPOSED to be a tourist trap to draw the casual fans and their money. It's intent was always to draw more of the casuals than the hardcores. So the troubling thing with the Rolen induction is that it sort of feels (to me, ymmv), like the sportswriters are pandering to the hardcore stat nerds set. Throw him in next year with say Beltre or whenever Ichiro is inducted and the casuals will go - Oh, good for that rando dude. Throw him in alone and it feels like the sportswriters are saying - Hey, the casuals don't care about baseball anymore. Let's just make the spreadhseet set happy! And I'm not going to lie, that feeling seems right. And it's depressing the casusals don't care about baseball anymore so that a class of one supremely competent guy gets a mere yawn and - HOW IS MAHOME'S ANKLE?!?!?! This is no offense to Rolen, mind you. He's one of those guys who did a ton of things very well - well, other than stay healthy. If he was on a team you followed, you probably appreciated him more than most. He's going to draw no one to Cooperstown on induction weekend, but the writers get to feel like they are NUMBERS WOKE and the statnerds will rejoice. Huzzah. But hey, we live in a world where Harold Baines is a HOFer. I'd rather see a boring competent guy get in than...another drunken LaRussa escapade.

    2023 NFL OFFSEASON

Yeah, crazy owners are the best. And as Raider fan I really don't think I can throw stones at Irsay being crazy.

    2023 NFL OFFSEASON

Yeah. Local Columbus news tries to never say Michigan, preferring to say The Team Up North. It's annoying and childish. And I can verify the red tape over any M's in signs around OSU's campus during Michigan week. The Hoke-Ohio thing is news to me. But a) there were like a billion years where Michigan didn't beat Ohio State so I head my head in the sand and b) I sure enough am never going to any site/chat rooms where that crap goes down. The THE thing is also annoying AND childish yet...back to the point at hand...that was sort of foisted on Ohio State by Ohio U trying to trademark Ohio. Also very childish and annoying. But I mean, confusing Ohio State and Ohio is the equivalent of confusing Michigan and say Central Michigan or something - not even Michigan State and Michigan. OSU and Ohio U are on totally different planets. No one in Ohio thinks much of Ohio U at all - especially not for football. And tying everything back together, if we are going to refer to an Ohio native who was a good quarterback AND not a horrible human being can we at least reference Roger Staubach and not the serial rapist?
