  1. Just untrained kids running free shows. It's the equivalent of backyard wrestling here. Yes, backyard wrestling in Japan is run smoother than some actual legit promotions elsewhere. They'll wait outside bigger shows and hand out glossy, full color fliers. Aki Shizuku on this: "After your debut, you started wrestling in Gaku-puro. What did you learn by doing that? What is the difference between Gaku-puro and professional wrestling? Gaku-puro wrestlers are not a professional and are not athletes. Their physical ability and strength is at the level of ordinary students. Therefore, it is most important that they use ingenuity and make characters that utilizing their own unique abilities. They are university students, so they have an academic approach to puroresu. “The first phase of puroresu is to introduce myself to the audience”, was the advice from a member of Temple Puroresu that affected me the most. I had experience in women’s professional wrestling organization and similar basic skills, but I had no skills to tell audience about my unique advantage. After getting that advice, I actively incorporated certain moves, leading to my own style now. If there was no encounter with Gaku-puro, the present version of myself would not exist." http://www.dirtydirtysheets.com/2011/10/25/aki-shizuku-the-dirty-dirty-sheets-interview/
  2. Speaking of Joshi overcoming serious illness, here's the Act Yasukawa story: http://www.dirtydirtysheets.com/2014/03/13/act-yasukawa-the-dirty-dirty-sheets-interview/
  3. Quick...someone get these girlies a restraining order. I hope you also post this whenever people slobber over Punk and Danielson.
  4. Kana vs Arisa at JWP was one of the best matches I've ever seen live. Definitely worth listing or at least checking out once it gets on DVD. Unfortunately, JWP uses single layer discs for their releases so we might not get the entire 28 minutes on tape.
  5. The undercard was nothing of note, but holy hell the main event was possibly the best match I've seen live. Some highlights here (please skip past Hanako vs Takako): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UGPYI7-fpE4&feature=youtu.be
  6. Kana AKA BITW2013 got new gear and entrance attire last night:
  7. Saki Akai's debut wasn't exactly hidden. It was a big show and they made a big deal about her. Clearly, the votes came from people who never watch Joshi but do possibly keep up with DDT.
  8. I don't think you need Hollywood accounting to explain why a movie starring Colin Farrell, Noomi Rapace, and Terrance Howard cost $30 million.
  9. I think people who call it art are blithering idiots. I love the pro wres, and it's not art. So far your argument seems to be "The wrestling I watch is stupid crap therefore all wrestling is stupid and also not art." I may be off base, but so far it's not very convincing.
  10. Well if all you watch is Raw, sure I guess, but even then that doesn't say it's not art. Might be bad art, but it's art.
  11. Seriously? I didn't think this was a question anymore in 2013. That Cabana guy's podcast isn't The Sport of Wrestling Podcast and his CHIKARA spinoff wasn't Wrestling Is Business. Weird. No it's not. Most people I talk to, fans, wrestlers, promoters, and even people who don't watch seem to understand pro wrestling is an art form. A violent art, but still an art.
  12. Seriously? I didn't think this was a question anymore in 2013. That Cabana guy's podcast isn't The Sport of Wrestling Podcast and his CHIKARA spinoff wasn't Wrestling Is Business.
  13. Speak for yourself. As someone who hasn't watched for years I can fully experience the joy of laughing at pictures Raw's idiocy without any feelings of guilt or hypocrisy. Your username... intrigues me. Surely you're not serious? About?

  15. Never understood why TNA kept her around so long with her face covered up. And just as a manager for much of the time, not even wrestling. The world needed another exploitive Muslim gimmick I guess.
  16. Had a number of wrestlers flake on me. Only one with a decent excuse was Ayako Hamada: her dad doesn't have internet set up.
  17. Yeah, Policewoman is fun as hell. Didn't it start out being Sakura Hirota, but then somebody else took up the gimmick (I want to say Yuki Miyazaki?)? Kana has a reputation for working stiff. She seems to have backed off it somewhat, except when she's working heel, like she is in JWP. On that note, Kana made her second JWP title defense last week, beating Hanako Nakamori. Post-match, though, things got a bit...interesting... Now, this is from Kana's Wikipedia page, so take it with however many grains of salt you need. Assuming that's what really happened though, well that just came out of left field. Totally did not see the storyline advancing in that way. I hope it actually leads to something and it isn't just Kana playing mind games with Nakajima and JWP in general. Oh, and Kana apparently brought the JWP belt with her to the US for the SHIMMER tapings this past weekend. I was there, that's what happened (she also hilariously kept calling Arisa her guinea pig). She also tried to give her a Christmas card, and Arisa was a total Grinch about it. Worth noting Kana and Arisa are friends. She came into JWP initially to team with her, but we know where that ended up....
  18. Shida is a beast. The reason why I've been to more ICE shows than anyone else because, "Shida's in the main event? Okay, fuck it, guess I'll go."
  19. There's no big story behind the face paint. She just thinks it looks cool. She is a heel outsider in JWP, but she works for several different promotions and does different things in each, depending. A good place to read up on her is our interviews with her: http://www.dirtydirtysheets.com/2011/04/26/kana-the-dirty-dirty-sheets-interview/ http://www.dirtydirtysheets.com/2011/09/30/kana-the-dirty-dirty-sheets-interview-ii/ Her CHIKARA blog: http://chikaraspecial.tumblr.com/post/10519173993/kana-blog-9-22-2011 Some Matches: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2wURiwUCu4g All a little outdated, but a good start.
  20. Io left Triple Tails because she got offered a full-time job with STARDOM and, surely related, is their current champion. On a personal level, when Io got arrested, Mio said she had almost no contact with her sister at that point. Before that but after the split they did have a tag team match against each other at Union: http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xo3fko
  21. Arisa vs Hotta is actually available on DVD now: http://www.amazon.co.jp/JWP-MANIAX-2013-2013-4-14-%E5%BE%8C%E6%A5%BD%E5%9C%92%E3%83%9B%E3%83%BC%E3%83%AB--DVD-%E4%B8%AD%E5%B3%B6%E5%AE%89%E9%87%8C%E7%B4%97/dp/B00CGXO39I/ref=sr_1_1?s=dvd&ie=UTF8&qid=1377926109&sr=1-1&keywords=jwp+2013 Maybe nobody wants that particular DVD that bad, but when the Kana vs Arisa DVD comes out if people want to pool together the $40 for it I can handle the rest.
  22. No. As of right now the only current Joshi airing on TV is Stardom and Oz. They'll still air 2011/2012 stuff from JWP and ICE, but nothing this year so far. Because, you know, we need 17 replays of Real Japan. Longer clip: http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x13osub_jwpcli_sport
