  1. I feel like Global Force Wrestling stumbled across this board, saw the thread title, but got caught up on focusing on the word "theoretical"
  2. This was definitely the edgiest Update has felt the entire season, Keaton was game for everything, and the pacing of the episode made for maximum laughs from start to finish. Hoping this is finally the moment where the current cast/writing staff really finds their voice.
  3. I love how everyone is mugging it up and doing a bunch of attempts at snarling badass poses and Drake manages to look cooler than all of them by simply smiling and showing how happy he is to have any part of it whatsoever. And now some photos from a badass photobook on Houston Wrestling in 1971: More pics here: http://www.geoffwinningham.com/wrestling.html
  4. If you dont want to listen to Cole, JBL and company on Sunday, Will Sasso and Tommy Blacha are doing a live podcast of their own basically providing their own take on what's happening: http://tenminutepodcast.com/2015/03/26/tmp-tommy-and-wrestling-and-talking/
  5. Woke up this morning to check out the website of the newspaper I work at and there's an article about the horn samples in John Cena's entrance theme: http://www.laweekly.com/music/the-unlikely-origin-of-wwe-star-john-cenas-entrance-music-5442988
  6. Here's George & Shunji Takano vs. "The Model" Rick Martel & The Brooklyn Brawler, complete with George doing an insane dive right at the end of the match: http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x2k5dls_george-takano-shunji-takano-vs-rick-martel-the-brooklyn-brawler-sws_sport and Tugboat vs. Roadblock from Sumo Hall http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x2k1xb7_the-rochester-roadblock-vs-tugboat-sws_sport
  7. A sign that WWE has truly become synonymous with what people think of when you say "wrestling" - Microsoft Word auto-correct just prompted me to correct a typing of "Wrestlemania" to "WrestleMania" with the "M" capitalized.
  8. Holy fuck. Duggan and Kamala on the same team is messed up enough. And Jerry Estrada is there too! EDIT: The hell did I just watch? Ultimo Dragon does a picture-perfect Asai moonsault onto Jerry Estrada and then gets grabbed for a scoop bodyslam by Hacksaw Duggan giving the thumbs up and shouting "HOOOOOOOOOOOO!" And then post-match everyone is played out to a Firehouse song. This HAS to be the match where Tenryu came up with the undercard "random dudes in a six-man tag" concept.
  9. Honestly, I would be perfectly fine if TNA just turned into a worked version of that one Russian MMA show that combined the Eliminator with Team MMA fighting. Because really, why the fuck NOT try something that out there at this point if you are TNA.
  10. For everything I read about how they screwed the goose with Bret Hart in not doing a Sting vs Bret Hart program immediately, the questions I have in my head is: 1. Who goes over? Or perhaps more accurately, does that feud even get won by either guy at some point or just a shitload of screwjob finishes? Do you do it face vs face with perhaps the nWo still trying to pop in and ruin everything here and there? Or face vs face with maybe Flair and The Horsemen turning heel (when not wrestling the nWo) to try to get in that mix also? 2. What do you do with Hogan in '98? Maybe still do Hollywood vs. Wolfpack but place more of an emphasis on Hogan vs. Nash for control of the nWo while the championship is centered around Sting vs Hart? 3. What do you do with Goldberg for the whole year? Because then all the talk about how Goldberg's streak shouldn't have ended at Starrcade becomes moot because he doesn't get the World Title in the summer. Do you end Sting vs. Hart around Halloween Havoc time and then have someone drop the belt to Goldberg at Starrcade? I feel like the streak and a dominant run as U.S. Champion could have gotten Goldberg through the end of '98, but he maybe would have lost steam in '99 if he doesn't win the World Title at some point. 4. DDP is in the mix at the beginning of '98 also. Do his celebrity tag team matches still happen with the main event mix being jumbled up a bit for the above scenarios? Goddamn, booking Sting to win cleanly and dominantly over Hogan at Starrcade '97 and putting Bret firmly in the main event mix really opens up a helluva of a rabbit hole with "What If? WCW booking. It obviously should have been what was done, but there really is a ripple effect throughout the rest of WCW's '98 booking.
  11. My own complaints with the "female Ghostbusters" and "male Ghostbusters" deal is that it will inevitably lead to a "third in the trilogy blockbuster crossover" that will be coldly calculated from day one like they are trying to create a "Marvel Universe" model but with Ghostbusters. Not to mention I am sure there will be some heavy-handed poorly done "battle of the sexes" undercurrent to everything when in reality all I want from a Ghostbusters movie is funny people cracking wise while going apeshit on a bunch of ghosts without any of this overarching universe/gender politic garbage.
  12. What's even better is that in matches where he managed the Samoans, Ernie Ladd would wear one of the traditional Samoan/Polynesian skirt...over his dress shirt and slacks.
  13. I love living in Los Angeles, but man I do not miss the era where Entourage was popular. Almost every time I went out bar-hopping or clubbing in Hollywood there would be some dickhead fresh off the Greyhound from Boston that worshipped that show and thought being like those guys was how you acted and conducted yourself on a night out.
  14. This being potentially set to explode around Wrestlemania time when mainstream media is paying attention a little more doesn't really bode well for WWE.
  15. If it makes you feel any better, I read it as Fantastic BREASTS and Where To Find Them.
  16. Good on Rhino for taking full advantage of his moment in the sun as a jobber. If there's a chance that's the only time you'll ever be on TV as a wrestler, may as well make the most of it!
  17. I will always have a soft spot for the King Kong Bundy SNME hype graphic.
  18. No dude, you're confusing the "Orgasm" expression for the "Joy" expression.
  19. On the topic of whether he could get fired or punished, in the end if his fiance is indeed the one that posted both the nude pic of Zahra and the pics of Seth, then WWE may be better off PR wise to stand solidly behind Rollins. Not sure about the states this incident would be covered by, but I know here in California there is "revenge porn" legislation that now prosecutes acts such as posting nudes of an ex on social media. If this is indeed a case of a vindictive fiance who found nudes of a strange woman and went nuts with a social media posting spree, then one could potentially argue that whether he was in the wrong or not for having those photos on his phone, Seth Rollins was the victim of a crime, and it would not look good for WWE to fire someone for being the victim of what is now a prosecutable offense in at least one state, possibly more.
  20. Any announced lineups or talent yet for the Saturday night WWN or Wrestlecon shows? Same with King of Indies also.
  21. Had no idea it was out years ago until I kept seeing people on boards like this talking about how rare and out of print it was.
  22. I always felt that movie got bagged on more than it deserved. Same with Mallrats. Are they good movies? Probably not. Are they fun? Yes, very much so. The older I get the more I find myself popping in Jay and Silent Bob Strikes Back and Mallrats so much more often than Clerks. Clerks was one of my favorite movies in the my teenage and college years, but now in my mid-30s I just simply enjoy the madcap lunacy of Jay & Silent Bob and Mallrats so much more. And I haven't had any desire to watch Chasing Amy or Dogma (both of which I liked a lot upon initial release) in probably a decade now.
  23. I'm not sure I know what movie it is referencing, but I enjoyed the episode very much just for the simple device of
  24. I really enjoyed the Totino's Pizza Rolls commercial parody. Vanessa Bayer has carved out a nice little niche injecting tragic pathos into the typical commercial spokeslady/housewife roles these commercials often have - see also "Asian American Doll" and the "Vitamix" informercial.
  25. Just skimming around the Black History Month stuff they uploaded to figure out prioritizing of later viewings, a few interesting curiosities: 1. I love the promo at the start of the studio episode of Worldwide Wrestling where Steamboat, Wahoo, and Jack Brisco surprise Jimmy Valiant with a new boombox after Jos LeDuc wrecked his old one the week before. Nice little feel-good moment to start the show. 2. On the opposite end of the spectrum, the GWF episode is definitely after their initial promising run to start the fed died down. The opening segment is a clip from last week where a match ended after a team was disqualified for spraying their opponents with a Super Soaker. 3. REALLY Random: the episode of WWF Championship Wrestling from 1983 doesn't have an actual Championship Wrestling intro, but the intro for "Global Wrestling" (repackaged Championship Wrestling From Florida) with clips of Dusty and Flair. I'm wondering if the source tape was maybe one they sent to a station where they took over the timeslot with WWF programming and the station sent them the "Global Wrestling" intro to transition the branding? I found that one really interesting.
