  1. He's the perfect running mate for a guy who is the lawyer for John Stockton as he sues for the right to lie about COVID.
  2. She handled that really well. That said, she was 24-90 in four seasons and 5-25 this year. They'd just lost by 36. Firing her before the press conference, and then letting her go out to do it, was not cool though.
  3. The brother of LSU's Flau'jae Johnson has been arrested for his role in the fight. He knocked down, then stepped on, an SEC employee before jumping the scorer's table and trying to get involved. He's facing battery charges among other things.
  4. Don't really care if my "used poorly" opinion is at odds with top critics, to be honest. Yes, Hollywood tends to be a little off in their casting. Off by 32 years, not so much. But, since you mentioned critics, the ages being off is one of the most frequent critiques I've seen. I'm not a Marvel movie guy and don't have any preconceived notions or criticisms of Scorcese or his movies. I also don't much care what movies he's done previously, just the one I'm watching at that moment. Great movies in 2023? To be honest, didn't watch a lot of new movies last year. Godzilla Minus One was probably the best.
  5. The Coach K legacy of dirty players at Duke has continued past his retirement as Kyle Filipowski - newly-recovered from the court bum rush injury - tripped Harrison Ingram as Ingram ran up-court.
  6. No, do not expand the tournament. The only fix needed is to give autobids to regular season champions not conference tournament champions. I know that ship has sailed but it's the sole reason we get snubs and teams that don't belong. If we did 32 regular season champs plus 36 at-large, no one with even a hint of an argument would get left out.
  7. I think they'll take McCarthy and end up being happy with him if they let him sit for a year.
  8. What does a 40-something look like in the 1920s? He looks like a 40-something, maybe early 50s. There are photos of the guy. He didn't look *80*, which DeNiro most certainly does. Here he is at 48: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_King_Hale#/media/File:Face_detail,_William_King_Hale_(cropped).jpg Meanwhile, you've got Scorcese saying dumb stuff like his friends "didn't even realize it was [DeNiro]". LOL, sure thing. I think he was cast - Leo too - because Scorcese was familiar with him and knew he'd get a good performance, not because he was the right guy for the job. And, just so we're clear, I have no issues with DeNiro's performance itself. And I appreciate his dedication in legit learning the Osage language. (sorry about the empty spoilers - it won't let me delete them) The run time was an issue because it was used poorly. The overly-long fire scene - which could've been cut completely - I've already mentioned. Lots of other places the movie could've been tightened up that would've freed time to show more. I can do long movies - the extended cut of "JFK" that's like 220 minutes is a favorite of mine. Although you seem to think I've never seen a movie based on a book before, or one based on real life, I am familiar with the concept. While it's not uncommon for movies to stray from the books or real story, it's also not uncommon for them to... not do that.
  9. "The book was better" was absolutely not central to my critique. However, having read the book, I went in with knowledge of the real story and I just don't think Scorcese did it justice. Not when he's got 80-year old DeNiro playing this kindly old grandpa version of a 40-year old psychopath. Just... no. How did they undersell the horror in the movie? Because the real story is anywhere from 60-100 murders committed by dozens of people across nearly two decades. The movie just didn't get that across.
  10. I have and use Facebook. I almost never post outside of groups or in reply to the posts of other people. I get a ton of entertainment from groups. I have and never use Instagram. I created an account as part of a giveaway promotion. I don't really understand the appeal and find it incredibly annoying to use. I have and never use Twitter. I think the concept is stupid and it's annoying to use.
  11. It absolutely did not need 206 minutes. At least 5 minutes was wasted on the one fire scene alone. The casting here was atrocious. In real life, the Leo character was in his early 20s and significantly younger than the fed investigating the case. Having Leo play that character AND still keep the "son" dialogue from the fed was STUPID. Who calls a guy older than them "son" while not trying to be insulting? And DeNiro's character was at least 40 years younger than DeNiro. Portraying him as this kindly old gentleman was a misfire of the highest order. Good grief. The movie undersold the horror. It focused on the one guy and his wife while doing a terrible job of showing how widespread the murders were and how much exploitation was involved ALL OVER EVERYWHERE in that community. And, yeah, I agree with what the guy said about Gladstone's performance. It was fine. Nothing special, nothing revelatory or spectacular. Fine. And, yeah, the radio thing at the end was very much out of place. The movie was fine. But it was too long and did not do a good job of capturing the book. The book is 400 pages on unrelenting, increasing horror and disgust. It digs a deep hole and just keeps digging. The movie completely missed that mark. 6/10 is about right.
  12. Nah. "I'm not saying it's wrong (but I'm still complaining and by bringing it up I'm actually saying it's wrong.)" If he truly thought it was wrong, he'd praise the changes or not bring it up at all. And it IS hypocritical. He's a guy who has bailed on multiple contracts to make more money, forced guys out so he can violate scholarship limits, and on and on. Yeah, it's all about the team to Nick - when it suits him. I'm sure Spartans players felt the team message really resonated as they practiced for the bowl game he ditched. Kudos to Nick for recognizing he's too old for the modern dynamics. Seriously. And I agree he's the GOAT. I think he's the greatest college coach in any sport ever. The results speak for themselves.
  13. I suspect most guys are just happy to be in the game even if they know 600 bucks is less than they're worth. It's not like EA was going to be ponying up $25k per guy or trying to figure out a sliding scale.
  14. Yeah, he's got just 34 points and plays only 14 minutes a game. 20 goals is nice but he should be a high 30s scorer every year. But he insists on being invisible for long stretches of games.
  15. Detroit fans: "told ya so!" Mantha has the potential to be good but he's incredibly lazy. Still can't believe we got a 1st round pick for him, along with Jakub Vrana, who played great when he played.
  16. Nick Saban has done an interview where he explained his reasoning for retiring. He blamed the reaction from his players to their loss to Michigan. Said there were guys throwing helmets, etc., and he was upset by the lack of class and not by his failure to teach his players how to behave. He then blamed NIL and, with not even a hint of self-awareness, said "it’s all about how much money can I make as a college player". It's ok, Nick, I'm sure when you left Michigan State while under contract, or when you left LSU while still under contract, or when you left the Dolphins while still under contract, that it had nothing to do with money. Good lord, the hypocrisy. He should partner up Coach K and Tony Dungy and start "The Sanctimonious Gasbag Podcast".
  17. Dylan Larkin is out for 2 weeks with a lower body injury suffered against Florida over the weekend. It's a busy 2 weeks with Detroit having 7 games in that stretch.
  18. Meanwhile, I watch that and all I can think is, "holy crap, that is some incredibly bad defense".
  19. I'm just sitting back, eating popcorn and enjoying it all. Can't stand the Broncos, can't stand Russ, can't stand Sean Payton so this is awesome for me.
  20. That looks like an AI hand. Good grief.
  21. So, apparently when Nike manages to deliver pants for MLB players, the fabric color doesn't match the jerseys. https://uni-watch.com/2024/02/29/mlb-nike-fiasco-now-features-mismatched-road-greys/
  22. I do like that it encourages returns but won't teams just continue to bomb it out of the back of the end zone? Also, how do onside kicks work?
  23. Brady is actually in shape now versus his own combine. He probably hadn't run 40 yards TOTAL during his senior year at Michigan.
  24. The NFLPA has released their annual player survey of franchises. KC ranked near the bottom overall in player satisfaction. Complaints included that they are given stools instead of chairs in the locker room. The Raiders ranked dead last in coaching (surveys taken before Josh McDaniels was fired). The Patriots - yes, Bill Belichick - ranked next to last. Players felt Bill wasted their time and didn't listen to the locker room. And, as usual, teams are salty over the results. Fact is, though, the surveys get results. Jacksonville was trashed last year by players, mainly because of rats(!) in the locker area. They ranked 5th this year.
  25. Cam is a huge human being. I'm a big guy myself. The first time stood next to Mark Rypien, was immediately struck by how BIG he is. Like, significantly larger than me. And Cam is bigger than Rypien. I didn't have that same reaction when I was near Richard Fox, the former Gonzaga player, and that guy is 6'10" or more.
