People in Wembley will really, really, really want to sing to Judas. If given a choice, they'd probably rather sing to Judas than to see Omega vs Ospreay III. I realize it's not a binary choice, but...

    Have a ticket, can confirm.

  2. By the way if anyone wants the master .txt I've got for this and the interim belts then give me a shout. I'm currently exploring ways to put it all into a spreadsheet or database or something to make it easier to sort and calculate trivia/stats and stuff like that.

EDIT: I've got the main belt into a spreadsheet, ignoring the interim stuff for the moment.

  3. This is different from the Interim Lineal Premier Champion which were activated on the Charity/Community Shields following the Belt Holder's Relegation from the league, which happened on two seperate occasions; although both have since been unified with the True and Correct Belt.

Yes, we are making this needlessly complicated.

  4. According to my calculations and a (hopefully) meticulously compiled .txt file, Brentford's win against Champions Man City makes them the True Champions of English Football.

Unless I've cocked this up somewhere and I'm very wrong, which is possible, although the few times I did mess up, and had to do things again I'm pretty sure I got the exact same sequence.

  5. Congratulations to the new champion and almost certain Ozeki promotion. Here's hoping that he and Hakuoho deliver what their uncles couldn't: a decades long rivalry that doesn't end in acrimonious resignation over a fight in a nightclub.

I kind of want four people on 11-3 on the final day...

Alas only three: Hoshoryu vs. Hakuoho are two of them and Hokutofuji can force a play-off if he beats Nishikigi.

Presumably Hoshoryu will get promoted to Ozeki if he wins, regardless of any playoff, but the other two will lose their biggest scores for the purposes of an Ozeki push and would need 13 even if they win tomorrow. Hoshoryu is still alive to get promoted in November with a magic number of 11 even he loses tomorrow.

  7. Asanoyama vs. Kirishima tomorrow in a Makekoshi Decider for one of them. This is along with the second leg of the Sekiwake Round Robin, Hoshoryu vs. Wakamotoharu. Hokotofuji vs. Hakuho, we've mentioned and Nishikigi has a resurgent Ryuden. Daieisho has Onosho, of all people, and if that's a match-up that's happening then I don't know what the hell they're going to do Sunday.

  8. England are bowling Mark Wood like this is a T20 and it's working.

Come to think of it, they were running byes on Alex Carey like it was the twentieth over earlier.

  9. Wakamotoharu ruined Daieisho's Ozeki's push, so it's Hoshoryu or no-Zeki.

Hakuoho vs. Hokutofuji tomorrow, can't believe I didn't include him in my "who's getting who in the last two days" post. Guess I wasn't expecting him to squash Nishikigi.

  10. Ben Stokes with a half century and England aren't even behind, I didn't know he could do that. I thought he only played well when his back against the wall and if he wasn't he'd spend his time putting his back against the wall.

  11. Hoshoryu seems like the best bet, but he's got to get through Kirishima tomorrow. Meanwhile the rest of the Sekiwake start devouring each other. There's no way more than one can make it to 33 from here if they all have to fight each other, which I would assume they pretty much have to.

After tomorrow, Kirishima would have fought every Sanyaku remaining apart from Abi, so is that the last fight of Senshuraku, with a match against Hokutofuji on Saturday? Otherwise, the next highest ranked fighter he hasn't faced is Asanoyama; and he's out of contention for the Yusho too, so those two would be plausible, I guess.

Nishikigi has fought all the Sanyaku, he's got Hakuoho tomorrow, so I would guess he's going to get Hokutofuji and maybe Ryuden who is the only other fighter remotely in contention that he hasn't fought yet. Otherwise, I would suppose a pick out of some of the upper Maegashira who have disappointed. Based on current records, I'd say Asanoyama if you wanted to test him, but who know?

Hokutofuji is up against Endo, I'm presuming that he's going to get Nishikigi Saturday or Sunday, he could also still draw Daieisho at some point, because he hasn't really fought any contenders outside of the two other Sekiwake; if he doesn't get my harebrained Kirishima suggestion.

  12. I love how Australia brought extra all-rounders, have bowled them less than their "hey, well, this guy can roll his arm over" and the only way they won't end the day behind is if England let them bat again and they go for it. Crawley & Root are going great guns and Moeen Ali deserves an apology off anyone who snickered at that choice.

  13. After losing a few in a safe fashion URA makes up for it by winning one and taking a header into the front row.

All this talk of Takayasu maybe kinda sorta doing okay, he's going be lucky to get Kachi Koshi from here; although there was some awful stuff in the first few matches.

If Hokutofuki and Hoshoryu serve up another one like that, I'd love to see that play-off but right now it's looking Hokutofuji and Nishikigi would be playing off instead. Three days left, though.

    OZEKI WATCH:

    • Daieisho needs 3 from 3 to get his 33
    • Hoshoryu needs 3 from 3 to get his 33
    • Wakamotoharu needs 4 from 3 (whoops, although 3 from 3 would give him another target of 12 next time,)
    • Kirishima needs 2 from 3 to avoid being Kadoban
    • Takakeisho will be Kadoban next time out.
  14. I'm being slightly facetious but I do remember the last time England were in India, and medium pace was not rewarded so I would at least consider leaving the seamers in the hotel if they can't get over 90mph regularly.

  15. With a bowling attack of Jack Leach, Moeen Ali, Rehan Ahmed and Joe Root, I'd back England in India. Throw in Mark Wood for when you really just have to fling hundred mile an hour bouncers at a tail ender's head and they'll be sweet.

BazBall isn't so much a game plan as a state of mind.

  16. I've done 7 years, but the answers to your questions (with the proviso that I am just one man who is praying that his list of results is complete and accurate,) are, in order, as of May 2000, Nottingham Forest and Manchester United. In the first seven seasons, more teams have been relegated holding the belt (one) than have finished first holding the belt; and, curiously, Three time holders Tottenham Hotspur have had all three reigns ended by Chelsea.

Sheffield Wednesday have taken the Original Belt down to the First Division, and I'm going to have to start tracking a second belt, starting with 2000 Charity Shield winners Chelsea. Not sure how to handle the numbering of Interim reigns.

One of my friends suggested a pool for the upcoming EPL season, and I actually was interested in the concept.

    The Lineal Premier League Championship.

In the suggestion, either the winner of the Community Shield or the first Premier League game to finish becomes the inaugural (and mythical) Premier League Champion. Then, every Premier League match they play after that is for the title. Title only changes hands on a loss (ie, Champions Advantage), and the new champion starts defending the title in their next match

If gambling for cash: Everyone throws in $5, gets a randomly selected team, winner-takes-all ($100 if all 20 teams are assigned).

I am a little bored, so I think I might track this, starting with the beginning of the Premier League.

    The Rules:-

    1. The Belt will be contested in League matches only with limited exceptions.
    2. The Champion retains on a draw.
    3. The first Decision Match will be the 1992 Charity Shield.
    4. In the event of the Belt Holder getting relegated, an Interim title will be created starting from the next Charity/Community Shield.

    The inaugural holders? Leeds United.

  18. Ahh, thanks for the info; it surely sounds unpleasant though.

I swear I saw a tweet to the tune of "so that's how to solve the Hokuseiho Equation" but I tell you right now that doing anything like Ura would is neither possible nor advisable.

Tobizaru vs. Anyone who has ever been an Ozeki: 3-0. Tobizaru vs. non-Ozeki: 0-3.

One unbeaten fighter left, who would have guessed, not I. Takayasu's Bridesmaid Streak is alive and kicking.

  19. Herniated disc in the back, yikes, that sounds painful. I hope he gets better, even if that means he can't fight any more.

Who had Nishikigi, Takayasu and Gonoyama as the undefeated rikishi through five days? Not I. Interestingly, Nishikigi has technically already fought Kirishima with a fusen on day one, which should make his life a little easier.
