They can't really promote him now, but I imagine they'd be more inclined to be generous with him next time around if either Hakuho or Kakuryu retire, similar to what we saw with Asanoyama's Ozeki promotion. Two kadoban Ozeki and the other looking to leave the rank the other way; things could get a little fluid. Sad face, all of my favourites have been somewhere between indifferent and bad this basho. Everyone's favourite surly hairy bastard got his Kachi Koshi, but he's going to be leapfrogged by Terunofuji for the Sekiwake spot.

This quoted sentence sounds a bit like @Technico Support's point, except phrased to sound a bit less like some decidedly stone age thinking, as if Shida being Japanese is her Thing. I'm also struggling with what you mean by "American style," because I've seen enough 90's and 00's Joshi to see the similarities in the current men and women's American styles. There are plenty of counter examples to your sweeping generalisations about Japanese pro-wres in general, including a match I saw last night between Masa Saito and Akira Maeda from 1987 where Super Strong Machine jumped Maeda on his way to the ring and his face was pissing blood. I am struggling to see how having access to fewer talented female wrestlers is good for AEW but if you people would have just shut the thread at Billy Gunn like I said, all this unpleasantness could have been avoided and we wouldn't have had to grapple with the massive sleazy underbelly of the grappling. Again.

I feel what it means to be a face or a heel has changed a lot, and there is plenty of room for nuance, shades of grey and people who just plain don't like each other. That said, I have no idea what was going on in the build up to the tag title match and why anyone would want to see either team win when taking what was happening on TV at face value.

I think in this case, "trust" is relative. There are some aspects that I think will be handled authentically, but other aspects where they may not tread so lightly as they need to. At this point, they've earned the, I suppose, trust from me to give it a go, but I get the scepticism.

Wardlow was my favourite part of the Jericho vs. MJF match, he basically does everything that Hager does but better. Can't wait for him to snap and start launching people into the Atlantic. Was really impressed by the women's match; Glad to see Shida bringing some real fire. Not exactly a heel turn, but I can see her booting some nice girls in the face a lot easier now. I was wondering how the fact there were two Flags of Victory going up for the Young Bucks in the build up, (the stip and the injury,) would affect the match; do they cancel each other out? Turns out, no. Although with JR talking up Nick Jackson's singles potential I was still hoping for an FTR win as the match was going on. There's something about the Young Bucks that I just don't like, but I guess they're pretty good. Glad they put Darby over before he breaks himself. I love watching him move but goddamn he just makes every spill look as awkward as possible.

Because the Six Nations got cancelled or something, would someone mind explaining to me how New South Wales lost Origin I? I don't expect that to continue with the respective levels of talent (come on, what good can come from getting Ben Hunt on the field?) but after that, who knows?
