  1. Shingo Takagi vs Robbie Eagles tonight in Melbourne was an easy 4 1/2*, just a tremendous match. I don’t want to undersell how good Robbie is, but Shingo is just a superstar from the minute he comes through the curtain. Absolutely one of the best I’ve ever seen in the ring.

  2. What I loved about the ladies was they did a legit 3 way with no powdering until the very last near falls.

Zack v Shota was a masterful 14 minutes. Perfect dance partners and convincing near falls. Absolutely adored this match.

Tag titles was heated, stiff and built to a crescendo. Perfect time for a switch and a very deserving team who were clearly overcome with how far they have come.

Just a tremendous main event. Nothing overdone, perfectly sold, rabid crowd and blinding home stretch. NJPW needed to pull the trigger on a new top guy and it couldn’t have been done better.

  3. I don’t usually pick holes, but listening to Alvarez say Komander v Vikingo wasn’t a spot fest and then compare it to a gymnastics routine was classic stuff.
I had hopes when they started off with some shady matwork but it then became a total stunt show and frankly gymnasts cantering to each corner of the mat prior to a tumble is more convincing. That’s not to say I didn’t enjoy it or find it breathtaking, just that MOTY talk is delusional. Go watch a Rey v Psicosis  match (not j cup 95 though!) and tell me these two haven’t got a bloody long way to go to be as good as they could be.

  4. Rey was 20 when he debuted against Malenko in WCW. In a sense there is much similarity between that match and Kenny v Vikingo, albeit total products of each time periods respective style. Rey however, was three times the worker Vikingo is and he has to strike more balance for longevity sake. Yes the match was designed as a total showcase for Vikingo, but I’ve seen enough of him prior to know it’s a regular pattern. Absolutely he is money but there has to be more than big spot, sell, big spot.

Admire Kenny giving the whole match over to him and it was wildly entertaining. Given his lengthy rehab, Kenny really needs to stop with the multiple high angle bumps however, it’s just too much.

Not MOTYC for me but I did love it for what is was.

  5. Clearly the persistence of @DEAN in the face of hospital food to give the people what they want settles the ‘who defends the belts with Mark’ debate? I feel sure Toni and Ruby laid it in just for you fella.

Not a time for debate about religion, but the post from Coleman was certainly an advertisement for the power of faith. Mark Briscoe I salute you squire.

  6. Nothing wrong with the wrestling tonight, just understandably flat for the majority. That said, Storm and Soho really laid their shit in deep.

Terrific main event. Lethal a pros pro in the face of being an emotional wreck and a wonderful tribute to Jay as well as a showcase for Mark. Anyone unfamiliar with Mark would have emerged a fan after such a great match.

Knock that shit out of the park @DEAN

  7. I’ve watched Omega-Ospreay 4 times now, finally getting it on the big screen in HD tonight. Even more visceral and nasty. It gets better every time I watch it. I’m in awe of Ospreay’s selling. What I love about both guys is their total commitment to every little aspect from the second they hit the stage to the second they pass through the curtain. It’s a toss up for positioning with this and the WK11 match and I could go either way. WK11 is such an important match in many ways.

  8. It’s not that hard to deduce, but Dave explained it in the show with Garrett tonight; he said he thought it was better than Okada v Omega 1, on par with 2 but still considers the 2/3 falls the best match of all time. I think the only thing up for debate is whether or not it is better than Okada v Omega 1. Pretty damned close.

  9. 2 hours ago, The Natural said:

Sucks KAIRI vs. Tam Nakano went 5:47. Both deserved better.

You can blame Mercedes for that one as her grand entrance sucked half their allotted time. Just the way they time out the show, they don’t deviate.

Uncle Dave actually called it perfectly tonight pointing out how much stuff Omega and Ospreay didn’t do. I guess it’s probably going to be a trilogy but I’d happily take Omega beating Okada for the IWGP title at Fobidden Door, Ospreay getting his big win over Okada to win the G1 and then the return Omega- Ospreay to headline WK. Probably a little gaijin heavy for NJ booking however

  10. Acoustically the dome is never great. It can be a windy echo chamber. Based on that and the way Japanese fans react, that crowd was super into things. That match was a virtuoso two man performance, entrances to post-final bell.

Streaming and US ticket sales may prove me wrong but Mercedes is a hell of a negotiator.

  11. Bonus favourite things; top rope croyt’s wrath, ZSJ calling out the British PM, next level selling from Will and Jay, ZSJ calling out the British PM, Sasha making Jade Cargill look like a grizzled vet, blood, ‘smart’ fans on t’internet already saying ‘why did Kenny win, there should be a rematch’ and ZSJ calling out the British PM.

  12. Surely the Kenny Omega big match layout is up there in the wrestling lexicon alongside the dusty finish by now? Seriously, Last, Cornette and all these other daddy’s wrasslin’ snobs can continue to deny evolution; pro-wrestling is alive and doing fucking great. BBM Kenny rules, Will Ospreay is the best in the damn world and you can bugger off and watch Raw if you disagree. Happy new year!

  13. Miyahara and Nomura beat the piss out of each other this afternoon. The two are a special and delicious blend and I’d happily show any non wrestling fan a match like this. I always feel like Kento is flying under the general radar, but he really is a damn master of his craft.

  14. Fun, entertaining show for sure. Shinsuke made the main totally passable. I love me some Thatcher, he deserves a spot on any card. X is still better than half the guys in the business. Still not sold on Kiyomiya. Too Indy-rific in look and work. Stupid things like top rope falcon arrows to the outside should never get past the ‘what if’ stage.
