  1. I think part of the problem with Phase IV is the fact it’s been setting the table for the next two phases, so there’s been less of the interconnectedness that people got used to in Phases II & III.  If you go back to Phase I, they were mostly stand alone movies and most people would rank most of those films in the lower end of their rankings.  My hunch is they’ll start dropping more stuff for the next trilogy phase during this one so that they don’t have to do so similar table setting in Phase VII.

That said, my opinion on Phase IV should 100% be taken with a grain of salt because I was wondering the other day why people were so down on IV when I realized the only movies I’ve actually seen from this phase are Strange & No Way Home, while I’ve seen and enjoyed all of the Disney+ shows. 🤷🏻

I think we're going to look back at the last three or four years as a golden age, one that's over. Internally, the turning point is not necessarily the HBO Max stuff (though the idea of taking things off the service as a tax dodge, or never even releasing things, is a furthering of the decay, and one that other services will almost certainly start copying at some point in order to save money if it was proven to be successful on an accounting level). The cancellation of Bone, which is a pretty successful property through scholastic and had a lot of positivity from Jeff Smith and the wiping of a fairly exciting family slate from Netflix on the hopes that they could get more things like Boss Baby instead was up there.

We've been watching Foundation on Apple TV+ and the fact that it even is possible for a show like that, something long considered unfilmable and fairly deep into the Sci Fi canon from a marketability level, to exist, is a sign of just how big the mirage was and how thoroughly we benefited from it. There'll be lingering stuff, projects in development, surefire successes, certain services holding on, but in general, I do think the best times are over and the good times are going to start fading.

WWE was ahead of the game on both its streaming service and dumping its streaming services in recognition that there is more income/fewer expenses in providing your content to other streamers instead of paying to develop content for your own streamer.  I’m worried about Disney+ deciding to cut back under Iger.

We’ve been in an age where there’s something to watch every night and almost anything can get made and that’s been ending lately.

Subscription-based streaming is not a great profit model and companies are starting to realize it.  WWE was ahead of the curve in that respect by realizing they could profit more by selling their content to someone else rather than have all the costs of running your own network and developing new content. Once a service hits its peak subscriber base, paying to develop anything new is essentially a loss, as you won’t get new subscribers and in the best case, you’re spending more just to keep existing subs constant.  It was only a matter of time before Disney realized this.

  4. Phase 4 was also more akin to Phase 1 in introducing new characters/the new status quo without hinting as much towards the big bad.

As for the news of reevaluating things, it seems with Iger coming in, Disney may have finally hit the “why are we paying so much for this new content that isn’t actually increasing subscribers” phase of streaming services.

Liked the gags about the 70s show.
‘’Disappointed in the Emil heel turn, as expected.
i wonder if they tried to get Byrne for a cameo.

I don’t think it was a real heel turn.  The implication was that he was with Intelligencia, but I took it more as they just booked a private event at his place and he didn’t know what kind of group it was.

Yeah, that's fair and makes sense. I wasn't thinking about Damage Control, which I tend to hate as a foil.

I still think the authorities, whether Damage Control or not, showed up incredibly quickly given all that she did was punch a video wall (even if it apparently also somehow did structural damage).  It wouldn’t surprise me given the nature of the men’s rights troll villains if it’s revealed she was essentially swatted by Intelligencia and the authorities were already on their way.

  7. I completely forgot Intelligencia was a briefly a real group, so it could be MODOK or the Max Thinker (which could bring Awesome Andy, fitting with the Slott comics they seem to be drawing from), but given the way the show is going I wouldn’t be surprised/kinda hope it’s Red Ghost.  I’d love to see the outrage if the MRA guys ended up getting turned into apes.

  8. The courtroom stuff isn’t very accurate, but a)this isn’t even close to being the worst courtroom stuff on TV or even superhero stuff (looking at you, The Flash), and b) this is pretty clearly being played for laughs, so personally I give it more leeway than something trying to deal with things seriously and failing miserably (you again, The Flash).

  9. If this is one of the worst episodes, then this will end up being a perfectly fine show.  Not great, not bad, just fine.

I did think the CGI looked the clunkiest it has yet, with some pretty mechanical movements and some funky lighting, particularly the Wrecking Crew fight.  After the credits, I was thinking how I wanted more Titania when I realized we’ll probably get that next week with her presumably being behind the Wrecking Crew.
