  1. Yeah, I don't think the outrage against Transformers is due to the desecretion of a franchise so much as the $22 and 5 hours of my life I'll never get back.
  2. Cameron's haven't been McMovies in the sense that they're part of a larger franchise (except Aliens, and both Terminators don't count since he created them), just big budgetry. I have neither read Rings nor seen any of the movies so I can't comment.
  3. Think you need to go back and read it a third time then.
  4. To be fair, neither Heaven's Gate nor The Postman were based on the star's/director's semi-canon book of faith. Should be more honest self-criticism there.
  5. It's just...I mean, how are you supposed to take the man seriously after a comment like that?
  6. I don't think X-Men, Spidey, or Bats will ever be bombs, they will put asses in seats regardless of quality. The test is how well movies like Guardians, Ant-Man, etc do. But yeah, the simple fact that comic book movies already have embedded plots, thus saving studios precious time, is also a HUGE reason for their success.
  7. I'd go so far to say that Thor was SOMEWHAT known, and that his bump was initally due to Iron Man's success. Thor's been riding Tony's coattails since. I don't think that's going to be possible with Guardians, and certainly not Ant-Man. To be fair, Blade wasn't marketed as a "comic book movie," but as a badass vampire hunter who just so happened to originate from comics. It's like calling Constantine a "comic book movie."
  8. I don't know, it just feels like for more than 10 years I've been reading articles like this. Snooty critics and columnists saying the bubble is about to burst and the genre is going to combust...but then it doesn't. Comic book movies are becoming the film industry's dominant vehicle for action/scifi, and I don't see that changing in the foreseeable future. The general movie-going audience has a built in familarity with the characters, which makes it easier for them to become attached to said films. However, what I do see happening is that REALLY minor characters a la Ant-Man and Guardians of the Galaxy will not be able to pull Cap 2/Iron Man/Spidey/Bats numbers for very long, if they do at all. It's getting to the point where stand-alone films will have to focus on just the major, well known characters, and the Avengers-type films are where the Ant-Men of the world will make appearances.
  9. PLEASE tell me that's a direct quote.
  10. I'm guessing it takes plave somewhere between 3 and 5. 2 hours of Boba bounty hunting and banging weird alien chicks. TAKE MY MONEY PLZ!!
  11. Why would you post anything on social media with a political bent if you aren't expecting an argument to come forth?
  12. I can't believe The Arsenio Hall Show is STILL a thing.
  13. Then I must be hitting 90-yard field goals because I am G-R-O-S-S.
  14. On the one hand, Craig just made a perfectly valid joke. On the other, Fowler has a personal connection to the punchline. To like or not to like....So..torn... This moral quandary is much like Supes deciding what to do with Zod*** ***ADDED FOR ON-TOPICNESS
  15. Oh please. I routinely stay on-topic, unless it's one of the omnibus' threads, where anything goes by definition. Once this baby drops below $10, you'll all be begging me for insights into their working capital efficiency via the cash conversion cycle. Begging.
  16. "Both Speed movies" might be one of the lesser used English phrases.
