  1. Michael Sam should go sign with the FXFL. The league could use the press and at least he would get on the field
  2. Cue all the people saying he only got released cuz he likes dudes
  3. Well I have been to Maple Leaf Gardens, The Montreal Forum and the Colisee. Dont think I would be missing anything if I never got to go to the Nassau Coliseum
  4. Well they are all out in week 6. So by your logic the NFL should probably only play a 4 game schedule.
  5. Wow that was 2 Thanksgiving "Classics" I could have missed out on today
  6. Maybe the Giants could forego the second half and just get a bus back to the hotel
  7. Tony Sparano buried that football at Raiders practice this week. At this rate a bunch of kickers should get buried by their teams
  8. Watching the 1987 Toronto Blue Jays lose the last 7 games of the season, 4 of them to the Tigers who they finished 2 games behind, was painful. Especially the final game of the season where the Jays couldnt get a single run and barely got any hits off of Frank Tanana who probably didnt throw one pitch over 85 mph that day
  9. Losing Dante Scarnecchia won't have helped that line either. I can't help but feeling that when this time is looked back on, the last 3rd of Brady's career will have been wasted by BB trying to be too cute. Older Brady can't do it all with no line and no receivers. Too bad Belichick the coach can't fire Belichick the GM
  10. New book out for sabremike to get excited over. Howard Baldwin was on the radio talking about the book and the first meetings between the WHA and NHl about a merger in 1977 and he was being scolded for not wearing socks to the meeting when all of a sudden a door opens up in the hotel suite they were having the meeting in and NHL President Clarence Campbell walks out butt naked, said hello to everyone and walked away.
  11. Ballmer will be pissed no doubt since he could have got the Hawks for a lot cheaper and worked something out in Seattle.
  12. For now and probably for awhile but how long before Pegula starts making noise about a new stadium or jacks up the ticket prices since the Bills are the cheapest in the league or starts making threats in general.
  13. I have no idea but it seems clear that a ton of historic hockey footage is all locked in various vaults someday. There's so much good stuff that is just unseen/forgotten. I brought this up on twitter the other day myself. Obviously CBC has a fuckton in their vaults somewhere, but who knows how much of that has actually been preserved. For all we know a chunk of hockey history got the Stampede Wrestling treatment and is lost. But I hope not. Like elizium said there are only 2 or 3 complete games out there and a handful of the Soviets vs the WHA All Star games. WHA never had that much of a TV presence. As far as I recall the last season there was maybe one game shown a week in the Toronto area. Typical story is probably the local market had a channel that showed the game but didnt keep footage of the game and the individual teams never thought to do it. Incredible really that there is basically nothing to visually document Wayne Gretzkys first season of pro hockey.
  14. Im not too excited either. Floyd will make this a much easier win this time out.
  15. Yeah its a dopey article. Type of shit Steve Simmons and Damian Cox in Toronto write to get some attention. If the NHL didnt go to Las Vegas when Jerry Bruckheimer wanted to put a team there I doubt anything now would be a done deal. Realistically the NHL will expand by 2 teams. Probably Quebec and Toronto area if another building goes up because they can charge a mint for those franchises but the press will be on to move somebody into Seattle and another location out west. Thats why Las Vegas keeps getting talked about. There are few wet coast cities that you can see a franchise locating too.
  16. Wouldnt be surprised if Cohon is on the short list to take over as President of Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment when Tim Leiweke steps down
  17. Hey, HE PLAYED DEFENSIVE BACK, you know. Of course, so did Julian Edelman, if memory serves correctly, and nobody's going to be pounding the drum for that guy to get into Canton. The Pats won three Super Bowls with Troy Brown! How many have they won since he retired? As many as they won since their videographer got turfed out recording other teams? Or as many as they won since Charlie Weis and Romeo Crennel buggered off elsewhere
  18. Dont think that would have ever happened. Tony had a contract lined up with the Montreal Alouettes if Seattle didnt deal him
  19. You know my Dad is originally from the Ottawa Valley area and when Russ Jackson was my brothers high school principal back in the late 70's early 80's my Dad was always star struck when he called the house to tell him how much my brother skipped school
  20. Pocklington is full of shit about switching cities with Ballard. Ballard loathed Western Canada and the teams that had WHA ties. He did what he could to try and keep them from joining the NHL. Ballard was broke but Molsons was pumping money into the Leafs. Which spawns a couple more what ifs. What if the WHA doesnt come into being and Ballard doesnt gain total control of the Leafs. I still think the Leafs would have won a couple of cups in the 70's and could have rivaled the Islanders in the early 80's. Also what if Anne Murray had managed to buy the Leafs when Ballard went to jail for a bit back in the 70's
  21. Wayne was going somewhere if not LA then New York or Toronto maybe but realistically a better question would be what if Bruce McNall didnt buy the LA Kings. Since Bruce for all intents and purposes took over the league after the Gretzky deal and was the one that did the expansion to Anaheim and Florida deals and hired Gary Bettman.
  22. Toronto needs to be euthanized. MLSE was interested in buying them but David Braley threw a laughable asking price at them so they told him to pound salt. Remains to be seen if the Blue Jays will kick them out of the dome but really as sad as it seems the Argos are about as dead as a sports franchise can be
