  1. just found a new Wrestler name typo a newspaper article referring to "Ox Backer".. an even worse typo when it's a Kansas City newspaper and Ox is Sedalia, also Ox being a really known wrestler in general, and it not being an obvious "misheard a phone call" typo
  2. that 2020 Northwestern team appears to have been unstoppable in home games where no fans were allowed into the stadium the only thing weirder than empty stadium college football was empty arena college basketball
  3. It would suck to be the criminal who died as a result of the Tongan Death Grip
  4. no pressure kid... also, white hair Haku seems like he's gonna be in a story where he decimates some idiot criminal
  5. are there any promoters/promotions who've published a record book of results (both the ones widely known and the ones not known before)? I think that they've mentioned the concept of Cornette writing a Smoky Mountain book on and off for years but if anything is gonna get done there, it'll get done when it's done (I'm sure that doing multiple long podcasts each week would slow down Jim's process along with the question of how different a book could be compared to the results on line.. like would it be a scrapbook or what)
  6. for some weird reason, I was drifting down the thread, saw "Bret vs Ricky" and thought it was a Bret Hart vs Ricky Morton match.. which would have been interesting but probably not as good as Bret vs Ricky Steamboat
  7. and the Yankees go into the All-Star Break by firing their hitting coach
  8. The really wild thing about Elly De La Cruz is that the worst series of his career so far was against the Royals. EDLC went 0 for 12 vs the Royals and he's hitting .363 vs everybody else
  9. the Marlins demoted Eury Perez (2.36 ERA/185 ERA+ in 11 starts/53 1/3 innings) due to reasons that may involve "limiting innings" We're also around the time of year where some pitchers get demoted purely because they're not pitching until after the break (although you have to keep pitchers in the minors for 2 weeks if nobody gets hurt, so this is pretty late to do that sort of thing)
  10. It wouldn't totally shock me if the Jays made an impulse trade of Manoah sometime in the next few months and if there's any team interested in giving the Jays a rental for the cost of Manoah, they'd like to see how Manoah pitches in the majors instead of in the minors. of course that sort of thing would have to work out for the Jays to avoid being an infamous trade
  11. so he did the two most illegal things in the history of wrestling
  12. Egypt just opened "New Administrative Capital Stadium" if they want the WWE to hold a show in New Administrative Capital, Egypt in a 94,940 seat stadium Egypt is a bit underrepresented in real or kayfabe pro wrestlers Would it be culturally insensitive to give the Ramses Nacho Libre gimmick to a real/fake Egyptian?
  13. Hulk Hogan's final WWF match in 1993 was in Sheffield. Presumably because it was the final match of the tour and not because Hulk was so disheartened by going to Sheffield
  14. guessing that the WWE is more likely to run Wrestlemania at Old Trafford than Emirates Stadium as a result of the whole "Vince is mad at Stan Kroenke over something from the 2000s" thing
  15. you mean it's unusual for fans to get stabbed during Mexican soccer matches? ("usually they get stabbed after the match")
  16. In the category of Wrestlemania shows in England... which American promotion would run a show at Millwall's stadium and why would it be XPW (you might need to know a little about British football to truly appreciate that joke)
  17. No modern show really harnesses the energy of late 80s JCP World Championship Wrestling episodes where every midcard dude getting interview time would mention Dusty because he’s the Booker. Then again, no show would try to have 25 interview segments in 2 hours. Even Russo-era didn’t do that.
  18. The Padres DFA Nelson Cruz, we'll see if that slows down the tide of "Padres players hate each other" stories any
  19. Last thing you want during a hot dog eating contest is a grilled weenie
  20. 80s Flair televised without time constraints would have pushed the boundaries of reason multiple times a year
  21. i'm sure this has been mentioned on the internet before that I'm pretty sure Terry Funk is the only wrestler to have faced Chuck Richards and his grandson Chris Candido.. unless Candido was working some 1970s WWWF guys in the early 90s edit: Johnny Rodz also worked Chuck Richards and Chris Candido
  22. Dane Myers hit .358 in 280 PAs in his final season at Rice in 2017 while pitching 54 innings. He pitched in the Tigers minor league system from 2017 to 2019 before switching back to hitting in 2021. So sort of the reverse of the people who switch to pitching, instead he switched away from pitching
  23. DFAing Flexen would open the door to the Mets maybe acquiring a random part if some other team wants Flexen that bad? basically a delayed three way trade now if Manfred wanted to meddle, then there could be a rules change about not being able to immediately DFA people you acquire, instead making teams wait for a day or something. But that's probably not something that happens so often that changes need to be made
  24. Overelaborate match booking idea: A 7 way match for two separate titles (you could go to 6 or 8 instead) If either champion gets pinned, the person who pins them wins the title and exits the match (if it's the first champion eliminated) or wins the match (if it's the second champion) If either champion pins someone, they retain the title and exit the match Non-champions getting pinned by other non-champs exit the match An example of a layout for the match: For the WWF Intercontinental and Hardcore Titles: Billy Gunn (Hardcore Champ) vs Road Dogg (Intercontinental Champion) vs Ken Shamrock vs Goldust vs Val Venis vs Al Snow vs Hardcore Holly (basically combining two Wrestlemania 15 matches) First fall: Hardcore Holly eliminates Billy Gunn to win the Hardcore Title, exiting the match Second fall: Ken Shamrock eliminates Al Snow, match goes on Third fall: Goldust eliminates Val Venis, now the match is Gunn/Road Dogg/Shamrock/Goldust Fourth/Fifth fall: Gunn and Road Dogg eliminate Shamrock/Goldust in quick succession Final fall: Billy Gunn pins Road Dogg, entering the match with one title and exiting the match by beating his partner/friend for his title I think that Three-Way/Four-Corner/Multi-Man title matches should have some version of Lucha Captains Rules where the champ being involved in a fall ends the match. In this example, switching two titles and setting up something as a result of the outcome. You could just have the second title switch happen earlier if you didn't want (almost) everybody in the match to take a fall in order to do a turn or teasing a turn at the end. Although the basic rules are probably a little complex without having a competitor lose his title, stay in the match, and win a different title. But if a promotion (coughcoughAEW) has secondary titles that they wanna defend without doing the 7th casino battle royal of the year. Whole thing just came to mind because someone on Reddit posted about matches that were rumored or removed from Wrestlemanias, and the switcheroo with the IC and Hardcore titles at WM15 came to mind.
