  1. So I'm really trying to buckle down and list everything I've already seen that has a release date of 2013 on Rotten Tomatoes, I think I've got just about all of them... and it's a list of fifty-three. Good lord. Also it looks like Stranger By The Lake is 2014 on RT, so it wouldn't be eligible anyway.
  2. I've watched Stranger By The Lake and Museum Hours, and I guess I burned myself out last year with that whole World Cup project because I really can't find the motivation to write anything about them. Put it this way, they were both alright, and with Museum Hours I would really love to see someone who knows more about movies than me write a piece on it, but I don't think either one will be making my list. Still planning to watch The Past, Short Term 12, Her, and possibly Wolf of Wall Street and Dallas Buyers Club. FWIW I have a friend who said virtually this exact same thing. He heard from a lot of people that it was terrible, thought that he might be the one person who could appreciate it, and nope, it really was terrible.
  3. To your point: http://www.gallup.com/poll/147887/americans-continue-believe-god.aspx Granted, that's a few years out of date, but it surprised me the first time I saw how high that number is. Even when you break it down by age it still never drops below 80%. edit: Clearly I didn't read the "belief in God" vs. "belief in religion" posts.
  4. FYI, last I checked, The Spectacular Now is at 92% on RT and Short Term 12 is at 99%, both with a decent amount of reviews, and they're both out on DVD.
  5. A big part of what makes that great is that they do nothing particularly noteworthy for the first half of the match, you kind of start thinking "Oh I guess this won't be much," and then without warning things go UTTERLY INSANE around 13:40. Like you would literally think Honma split his head open, and he looks just as shocked about it as anyone else.
  6. Sorry if this stat got trotted out a thousand times over the past couple of weeks, but did you know that the quarterback who leads the regular season in passing yards has never gone on to win the Super Bowl?
  7. We're doing Punk vs. Bryan first round, right?
  8. Speaking of, anyone confirmed the rumored chikara sale? It was a status update on the Barridoff Galleries facebook page that has now been deleted. It said something like "Chikara acquired from Titor. A different kind of art, but art nonetheless." Titor is a fictional company, and Barridoff Galleries are owned by Robbie Ellis, a wrestler who's worked for Chikara, so I got the impression that it was all just storyline. Chikara is no longer under Titor's thumb, so now they can start doing shows again. In theory. And 3.0 has finally found Archibald Peck, so it looks like it climaxes this weekend. Just to confirm what we already pretty much knew, there's a new video out there (called "Torch"). I haven't actually watched it yet due to lack of sound on this computer, but it's supposed to have a backwards message saying "February 1, 2014".
  9. FWIW, I remember Punk saying in an interview sometime in the past couple of years that he's set for life in terms of money.

  11. Quick aside since I haven't seen it specifically mentioned here: the National Pro Wrestling Day show will be streaming live, free, on YouTube, this Saturday at 1 pm eastern. Could potentially mark the return of Chikara. http://nationalprowrestlingday.com/
  12. yeah, the main minus on Kasai is the medical stoppages if someone hits him in the head and he just spontaneously bleeds. The Goggles Splash would be over though. Although they'd be tempted to give him a shitty Kamikaze gimmick, where he's putting on goggles to "fly his plane into the ship" I always thought Kasai basically lifted the goggles splash from Grandmaster Sexay.
  13. I'm with you on the first sentence, but given where we are right now, I really doubt the fans would turn on Bryan if he ended the streak this year.
  14. First time in NBA history that a player went into a game averaging less than 10 ppg and put up 50.
  15. I'm with you on this one. Was waiting for you to finish it and put up your thoughts. It has an underdog vibe to it that really works well. Sophia going off on people is just wonderful. She has some great one-liners.
  16. I can't argue with your criticisms. What I liked about it was first, you get to see Joe Swanberg and Ti West in scenes with more famous people. If you're not real familiar with those guys, it's not going to mean anything to you. Second, yes the dialogue is improvised, and yes there are quite a few awkward moments because of it. Swanberg was clearly not afraid to throw all these famous actors to the wolves, and that's what made it interesting for me. Some of them can handle it better than others. Some of them seem to start off bad but then improve over the course of the movie (assuming that the scenes were shot in order).
  17. I'd like to see Barrett give up his spot in the Rumble and give a Bad News speech while looking into a mirror.
  18. That was at TIFF last year. Heard it was good, with characters that are much smarter than in a normal horror movie, though you wouldn't really know it from that trailer. I assume WWE got in on it after it was already made? There don't seem to be any wrestlers in it.
  19. How can we be certain that it wasn't just millions of viewers still sitting awestruck from the previous week's Daniel Bryan main event, and then the sight of Batista gradually brought them out of their trance and they changed the channel?
  20. That "normally I'd be happy that I got this huge scoop, but I actually spent most of the interview trying to convince him to do the movie" part from the article writer is pretty funny.
  21. I know "brave performance" is code for "gets naked" if we're talking about actresses, but I wasn't expecting it to apply here.
  22. I don't think I'll be watching the Super Bowl.
