    Oh boy Larry....

I was watching a Nitro a couple weeks ago, and Larry is talking about how Randy Anderson (or Mark Curtis/Brian Hildebrand) is consistently slow on his count.

So you mean the referee is fair to BOTH competitors? What a novel concept.

Just a dumb fucking thing to say on commentary.

To be fair, if he's consistently slow, it's kayfabe still bad because it's making it harder for a wrestler to get a pinfall. It's like when an umpire has a too-wide strike zone. It will piss off the hitters on both teams even if the pitchers are a-okay with it.

  2. I think the problem Alan Five-Angels ran into was how badly the Dark Order split went with the crowd. It felt like he was going to be a focal point, what with his unmasking and all. But then the bookers saw the writing on the wall and called the split off, and that cut off whatever story they were intending to tell.

Personally, the mask worked for him, and taking it off might have been a mistake. Not because he's unattractive (he's a bit of a cutie, though I don't like wrestlers wearing dangly earrings in the ring) but because it gave him something that set him apart from all the other athletic smaller white guys on the roster.

Exactly.  It's a work.  But I feel like it was a counterproductive work that put down the company and its workers, and took a lot of spotlight and heat off Wardlow, so I really don't care about this story and whether MJF ever comes back.  I'd rather AEW be straight forward pro wrestling without this Russoesque crap.

Also, if it's a work, it's counterproductive in that he's not being missed. He's not holding anything hostage like Punk did with the belt. And (if it's a work) the effort to make it realistic by not talking about him is leading to an element of out-of-sight, out-of-mind. If/when he comes back it'll be fine, but in the meantime...

  4. I've kind of hit a lull in my wrestling fandom the last month or two, and with Punk and Danielson off the card and no real investment by me in the NJPW side, I can't justify shelling out for this. Especially since I have to work in the morning and AEW has no idea how to budget their PPV time.

Perhaps if I hear good things and/or the mystery guest is interesting, I might order it on a replay. Only Mox and OC's matches have me really interested.

  5. If you're looking for someone who is already an AEW talent, has some history with Danielson, and hasn't had the chance to show his full potential yet (which accounts for the vague bigging-up Danielson did), Lee Moriarty fits the bill. But would the fans buy it? Probably not at first.

    Is Joe booked?

  6. After it came up in my playlist the other day, I've decided I don't like the FTR theme. It's like choosing to listen to DDP's theme song instead of Smells Like Teen Spirit. There's never a situation where you wouldn't be better off just listening to "The Chase".

He's not wrong. I felt the same thing watching last night.

To be fair, a lot of that time Sonny was in an angle with Janela. Can you blame them for not putting that on TV? :rimshot:

This is a strawman, I don't think anyone is actually surprised by this.  I've read the entire thread, and I don't think anyone said anything that even seemed like they were surprised by this.  We aren't the people being interviewed outside of the serial killers house talking about how they never knew.  Honestly, I'd be that there is a consensus on this board that Vince knowingly covered up a murder, none of us are surprised by this.  We kind of all know who Vince McMahon is, and we're just discussing the latest example of Vince being Vince.

In the interest of clarity, I didn't mean people here. I meant in general. I guess it shows how far in the bubble I am that I didn't realize the general outside world would be shocked.

New coworker is a young excitable 18 year old. He learned I like wrestling and has multiple times told me how excited he is to wear his John Cena shirt on the weekend. He’s a good kid and bless his heart, but fuck tell me once. Let’s not have this shirt be the recurring small talk.

Sorry to say this, but he'll Never Give Up.

  10. AH, that makes sense. I thought it was some sort of goth/House of Black thing, but then I noticed the Dutch flag was still in colour.

Too bad they couldn't have found two distinct countries amongst the wrestlers in New Japan. It looks kind of weird to have six countries and then a wrestling promotion.

  11. Punk is my all-time favourite, so if I leave him out I guess it'd be the following. I'm limiting myself to men for now.

-Orange Cassidy. He has a great combination of gimmick and in-ring performance, and I think his absence due to injury has been sorely felt without us realizing it.

-Eddie Kingston. He may be doing the greatest character work of his generation - nobody else encapsulates the "Yourself but turned up to 11" dictum as well.

-Daniel Bryan. He is great at everything.

And a wildcard fourth pick that will get me roundly laughed at:

-Shawn Spears. I don't know why. I just love his whole deal in AEW.

It's my understanding that once a muscle is torn off of the bone, you can't really make it any worse. It's already at the absolute worst it can be. So it's not like he could damage it any further. He already requires surgery to reattach the muscle to the bone. At that point it becomes a pain tolerance issue. If he can get through the physical pain of it to work, then there's not a lot of harm in clearing him to work. The problem can't get any worse than it already is.

Well, if you let it go too long without getting the surgery, it will heal wrong and you won't be able to fix it. My roommate's ex wound up in that position from bad medical advice.
