That's a very long-winded way to write "Due to circumstances beyond our control..." and leave it at that. ?‍♂️

Probably should have been "... almost everyone I booked for it was  manipulated and gaslit." Because why else would you work a IWAMS show in 2022?

The only detail that emerged that made anyone sound likable is Kenny removing Larry from the room to get him away from the altercation. But then hit got bit by a grown ass man for doing it.

You mean the part where he tried to steal Punk's dog?

I'm only half-joking. Because if you're in a heated confrontation with me and start to take my pet away, my first thought isn't "What a nice gesture" it's "Give me back my pet you fucking asshole." Maybe instead of taking the dog out of the room he should have taken his friends out.

  3. I think one reason it felt like a bubble is in part down to him removing himself from the title picture right at the start. Once they established the TNT title you got the feeling that it was the "Cody" title. It didn't feel like a secondary title, like the Intercontinental title or US title. It didn't have a unique constraint to it, like the old TV title or the Cruiserweight title. It wasn't associated with a particular style, like the X-Division title or the Hardcore title. It just felt like "This is Cody's because he can't have the world title."

This was particularly true at the start, when it went Cody->Brody->Cody in under two months. None of the other titles had changed hands that quickly to that point, and the reigns for the two other singles titles AEW were all in the triple digits prior to that.

They've been running into a similar problem with the TBS title becoming the Jade title until Nyla's angle started.

I also think that if Brodie hadn't passed away it would have felt less like a bubble. Because he disappeared basically right after he lost the belt, it resulted in a disconnect I don't think we'd have felt if Brodie had proceeded to feud with Hangman as was expected. So you had a chunk of time where Cody was feuding with Brodie, with a stable that was basically  never on tv (the Factory), and with a bunch of people who mostly weren't even wrestlers (Lambert et al).

I'm not blaming anyone, I'm not saying a particular person made a particular decision or another person was at fault for the booking. I'm not passing a value judgement on Cody or anything. Just trying to pin down why it felt, to some of us, like it was its own bubble.

Spears is still a weirdo and needs to shave off his beard and mohawk. You can't have them at the same time, folks.

Road Warrior Animal would have words with you.

Besides, beard+mohawk is all part of the gimmick collector gimmick.

  5. Bringing back Spears for a Canada-enhanced pop on Wednesday only to turn him on Friday while still in Canada would be some peak WWE nonsense booking. Hopefully they just segue WarJoe out of the feud for the moment rather than worrying about evening up sides.

Then FTR and Spears can beat Death Triangle for the trios title and we can begin the Shawn Spears, Belt Collector storyline.

  6. The general audience didn't hate that stuff about Bray. The only things I can think of them actively turning against were the FIend/Rollins cell match (and who wouldn't, with that booking and finish?) and maybe the Orton match with the bugs projected on the map.

The fans were always behind Bray more than the bookers were. Swamp cult leader Bray, Firefly Funhouse Bray, Fiend Bray - he was always over and moved merch. Then the bookers would have him lose the big one and he'd have to rebound. And he would.

In ring he's fine. He's not going to do 450s or quebradoras, but he's a good big guy with surprising quickness.

Guess I am on mute lol, but yeah it's hard to imagine Sammy getting a lot of sympathy in that locker room complaining about stiffness - which is probably why he didn't bring it up there but then ended up venting at an inopportune moment.

Of course how stiff it is ok to be is a very difficult question for an outsider to be able to wade into, which is why Tony Khan needs someone to deal with that. I guess this is where Mox now comes in.

Not on mute, I just had a direct response to Dolphman, while the rest was more of a general response and I'm not 100% clear on how to quote more than one person in a single post. Nothing personal.

  8. I've said it before, I'll say it again: If it's Battle of the Belts, have the matches be champion vs. champion but non-title. Especially with all the extraneous championships they have kicking around from ROH and their various partner promotions.

You could surely come up with some good match-ups between Moxley, Wardlow, Hook, Garcia, PAC, Joe, Jericho, FTR, the Acclaimed, Death Triangle, Dalton Castle/the Boys, plus outsiders who would be glad for the tv exposure. Who wouldn't want to see Wardlow bounce Brian Myers around, for instance?

And while they have fewer belts on the women's side, bringing in outside champions would go a long way to helping Jade get some more experience with people who have a bit more experience than, say, Willow or Anna Jay.

You're mixing up two different things - Vic Grimes fucked up a balcony spot they were supposed to do together in ECW, and as a result Jack split his head open on the concrete, causing him permanent blindness. Jack throwing Vic Grimes off the scaffold in XPW was a receipt because Grimes never called to check on him or apologize.

The point was more about throwing someone off of a high place as a receipt, not so much which specific high place he was being thrown from.

Also I suppose there's a distinction to be made between that and, say, Shamrock/Vader or Brock/Strowman, where it happens in the heat of the moment. "If a guy hits you hard, hit him back hard" is one thing because adrenaline is flowing and all. But "If a guy hits you hard, don't complain, stew about it until you get the chance for revenge" is different. Because then the guy you got revenge on will stew about it until he gets the chance to get revenge. And then you'll stew about it, etc.

Don't get me wrong - nobody's holding Sammy out as a paragon of working safely. We all saw that Ruby Soho spot.

  10. I don't have much time for Sammy, but I'd like to think that most of us can recognize that Andrade's "if you have a problem with me, settle it in the ring" take is wrong on multiple levels. That's what leads to New Jack trying to kill Vic Grimes by throwing him off a balcony.

  11. I hate to be a Debbie Downer but having watched it on Youtube, I have to say that the match didn't seem nearly as good as y'all were making it out to be. I mean, it was okay, but it felt pretty slow and plodding, and not much was going on between the theoretically-impressive spots that were less impactful (pardon the pun) in practice.

Maybe it was the fault of the crowd. They didn't seem nearly as hot as they could have been.
