  1. Tying a couple of other posts together without quoting, Battlarts Claudio needs to be more of a thing, and frankly, Battlarts Darby should be, too. Bryan and ZSJ showed that matwork and grappling based matches can get over like crazy. They are definitely the two best in the world at it, but Claudio and Darby are no slouches, either.

As Darby is one of the best in the company at wrestling how they should behave, it would enable him to calm down on the bumps and sell the matwork like death. Yeah, it's murder on the joints, but it's trading in murder on the neck and spine.

Also, good call on those noting Julia Hart's growth. She has really come along in the last year and is so young still. The sky is the limit. Honestly, I'd like to see more of her and Brody on their own away from Malakai and Buddy, or at the very least, more spotlight put on them within the House of Black. A Brody main event or International title run with him destroying the holy hell out of everyone and Julia cutting promos for the two of them would do wonders for the both of them, I think.

  2. Matwork/Grappling Danielson is my favorite Danielson. I feel like we haven't really gotten that since that Drew Gulak match on PPV a few years ago. There are very, very few people in wrestling that can go on the mat at Danielson's level and ZSJ is obviously one of them. I spent the bulk of this match with a big ol' grin on my face, because it was exactly what I wanted and was expecting, but it was almost entirely unpredictable. Like, I knew the Romero Special was coming, I knew the standing neck twist with the feet was coming, etc, but how they got to each of their spots was a marvel to watch. This is one match that is going to get better with age and rewatches, because it is so, so dense.

    Run this back, Tony.

  3. One of my earliest memories is being at my Aunt Judy's house and my cousin Steve had a WWF show on. This was in 1986, I think. I was five. Hoss Funk was applying a Boston Crab on some poor soul and Terry Funk came down with a knee onto his back. Later in the program, Hulk Hogan cut a promo.

    I've been hooked ever since.

  4. Speaking of grindcore, Gridlink's new album, Coronet Juniper, came out last Fridee.

It rules, of course, but damn, this record is DENSE. I'm a few listens in and I'm still processing it.

I got tickets to see them at St. Vitus in NYC next month. I had to bail on the shows they did earlier this year because I lost my job, BUT I REFUSE TO BE DENIED THIS TIME. IT IS FUCKING HAPPENING.

  5. Just got home from the show. (I went to Taco Bell afterwards.)

First off, I've never been around that many fans of the sport of professional wrestling in my life, and after the last few years that I've had, I fucking needed it. Shoutout to the little girl in Bianca Belair cosplay, replete with the braid, the kid sittin' in the row in front of me who I had a brief funny face contest with, and the folks sittin' to my right. They were really nice.

Most over dude on the show by far was LA Knight. Maybe it's just the catchphrase, but the crowd fucking LOST IT when he won the battle royal.

Most over lady in the company is Rhea Ripley. Mami's shirts were EVERYWHERE. The people love that woman and rightfully so.

    As for the matches...

...Say what you want about Suplex City, but that match translated the best to the crowd. Nothing but big, visible bombs that played super well to the back of the arena.

The people hate Logan Paul. I think he's a douche, too, but he's good. Like, really good. Maybe even damn near Kurt Angle rookie year good.

I generally hate Triple Threats as a rule, but this one rocked. Asuka delivered an all-timer of a mist job on Charlotte and I lost my shit. Iyo's cash-in was probably the best moment of the night.

I'm gonna need to rewatch Gunther vs Drew. Couldn't hear Gunther's chops live. Stadiums make my heart sad.

Everyone went pee and popcorn during Shayna/Rhonda. I like Shayna a lot, but this match was just not a good call. Frankly, don't try to do budget UWFI on a WWE stadium show post advent of MMA. Glad Shayna got the win, though.

I don't follow the weekly TV really, so I'm not totally invested in The Bloodline story. Roman's matches can be pretty divisive, but I'll say that it takes a lot of confidence and guts to let things breathe that much. It might not come across as well on TV, but when Jey hit that first spear, it hit me why Roman works the way he does. That spear blew the roof off the place. It was pretty incredible to see. That said, they could've shaved off some of that space. I looked at my phone at 12:05 and the match still wasn't over.

As far as how The Bloodline story ends/who beats Roman, it's quite possible that it ends with Roman still at the head of the table and he just switches his gimmick up. He very well could break Bruno's record. I really don't know who is gonna beat him.

Anyway, I had a great night and I really needed it. It was my first live WWE show since 1987!

  6. Went to the Crystal Palace vs Sevilla friendly in Detroit on Sunday. First live soccer match for me and it was really, really cool. The match drew about 21,000 to Comerica Park, which was really nice to see.

  7. I mean, I did have the thought the other day, "Fuck Zaslav, I'll just watch WCW Worldwide on Youtube exclusively in solidarity."

Not that I expect Seth Rollins to have any sort of class consciousness whatsoever, but at least stop at "I stand by them."

I had a good time watching it, but also realize there probably aren’t enough guys who want to do the kind of modern War Games I’d really want to see.

CM Punk, FTR, Jay White, Dustin, Eddie, Mark Briscoe, Danielson...Samoa Joe?

The Briscoes would've been perfect for it. 😞

I think Mox could probably get talked down out of the tree of going too long/thumbtacks/glass/nailboards, etc.

Hell, throw Christian and Jeff Jarrett in there. At least Jarrett has that blonde hair that looks sick all covered in blood.

I thought both this year’s and last year’s could have stood to have been ten minutes shorter. There’s no reason for a Wargames/B&G match to go 51 minutes.

We need CMFTR in a Blood and Guts match. And not vs The Elite.
