  1. Statement from Johnny Manziel

    Quote

"After careful thought and consideration I will be humbly removing myself from the Heisman trophy ceremony until @ReggieBush gets his trophy back, doesn’t sit right with my morals and values that he can’t be on that stage with us every year. Reggie IS the Heisman trophy. Do the RIGHT thing @NCAA the ball is in your court."

  2. My cousin Christine's college roommate at Michigan State was some sort of relation to The Sheik, and Christine told me about seeing a baby picture of her sitting in Andre's palm.

  3. If Al Davis were still alive, you could pretty much bank on Xavier Worthy being the Raiders first round pick. Ran a combine record official 4.21 40.

  4. Yeah since snapping the losing streak the Pistons have been just a normal shitty team, playing at a level that would put them on pace to go about 21-61 over a full season. Terrible but not historically so the way they were in November and December.

Cam is a huge human being.  I'm a big guy myself.  The first time stood next to Mark Rypien, was immediately struck by how BIG he is.  Like, significantly larger than me.  And Cam is bigger than Rypien.  I didn't have that same reaction when I was near Richard Fox, the former Gonzaga player, and that guy is 6'10" or more.

Yeah there's a difference between tall and big.

When I stood basically next to Rhyno I was absolutely stunned just how fucking big he was. He's about the same height as me, give or take, but his shoulders and chest were as big as a guy wearing football shoulder pads. Not modern lightweight small shoulder pads either, but like 1990's shoulder pads. He is just wide, and I don't mean fat. Just his frame from shoulder to shoulder...

(Although tall is also a thing. One of the only times in my life since late high school that I've felt legitimately short was standing next to former NBA player Tim Thomas. There was also once a wedding I attended where I met the bride's 7' older brother and that was just a real "damn" moment.)

I mean, I was 11 or 12 (I'm very old now) the last time the Big Ten had 10 teams.

The Big 8 at least had the decency to update it's name when it added four more teams, but now the Big 12 is out here with like 16 teams?!?!?

I think it's consistent branding and all that. The funniest time was when the Big Ten had twelve and the Big 12 had ten.

But none of the conferences have changed their name in several decades except the weird thing where the seven schools that left the Big East bought the name on the way out the door.

(Technically even the Big 8 to Big XII wasn't a name change. Legally on paper both the SWC and the Big 8 folded and the Big XII was a brand new conference.)

BTW, if you have any money, you may wanna lay a small wager on the Kings to beat Miami tonight.

Jimmy Butler & Nikola Jovic are serving suspensions for a fight in the NO game over the weekend.  Also, all these guys are hurt: Thomas Bryant, Dru Smith, Josh Richardson, Tyler Herro and Scary Terry.

Pro-tip: don't take gambling advice from the DVDVRMB

  8. Q: How many random non-pro athletes does it take to win a fight with Cam Newton?

    A: Apparently more than 4.

(If you haven't seen the video, Cam appears to be attacked by four men. He tossed one of them off the platform thing they were standing on, wrapped one arm around a second, grabbed a third by the hair, and no sold multiple punches by a fourth like he was early days Undertaker, until security broke it up.)

Sony owns the music. They wouldn't need sign off from Paul & the rest.

Paul is believed to be regaining publishing rights to part of the catalogue each year, and by 2026 he'll have reclaimed all of his Beatles songs.

Also, people misunderstand this a lot; Sony owns the publishing rights, but the mechanical rights and recordings still all belong to Apple Corp. They would need the Beatles permission to use the actual recordings.

Speaking of "right there" ideas, what about a film about the break-up of the Beatles? Drama, tension, pathos. Everyone wants to kill Yoko. John loses it and goes on a bender for the ages. McCartney has to start a new band. Whatever the other two do. There's a lot there, building up to John getting shot, and there you go. ONE movie, maybe throw in some flashbacks to early days... it writes itself.

Paul and Ringo refuse to allow Let It Be to be re-released because they don't like how it portrayed the band as not getting along, there's no chance in hell they, or Yoko, or Olivia Harrison, would sign off on it, so then you would probably not be able to get the rights to the music, and nobody wants a Beatles biopic with no Beatles music.

The 4 highest ranked champs get the top 4 seeds, regardless of where they’re ranked. (So, if the Big 12 champ is ranked 7th but they’re the third highest champs, they’re seeded at 3 regardless of who’s in front of them.)

The fifth highest champ is guaranteed a spot in the field but not a seed, so they could be slotted anywhere from 5-12.

And practically will almost certainly always be 12. It seems highly unlikely a G5 champ will ever be ranked ahead of a P4 champ, and in the unlikely event that does happen, you've gotta figure it'll be a year where a conference all beats up each other and a shock mediocre team wins a tie break and pulls an upset in the conference championship game.

  12. Wilson played a lot better this past season that the first year in Denver. Assuming the asking price isn't too steep, I could see him helping the Steelers a fair amount if the goal is to avoid a full teardown and rebuild.

  13. If the NFL is pissed, and they are facing another lawsuit... I won't be surprised if this ends up being one of those things that just stops being mentioned until it never launches and quietly goes away.

Because it's a hell of a lot less valuable without the NFL content.

Sam Mendes will be directing 4 biopics, one for each member of The Beatles.  They will all share casts and have interconnected stories. They're scheduled to be released in 2027.

Man, I like the Beatles and all...

Yeah I love The Beatles. I've liked more of Mendes's films than not.

I cannot find any enthusiasm for this idea at all. I guess at least I have three years to get hyped?

  15. Yeah Black Snake Moan is well acted and well made, but I couldn't shake the feeling throughout the movie that the film itself thought kidnapping a woman and chaining her to a radiator because she slept with multiple men or whatever was a morally good thing to do.

  16. Fuck the all star game, Clayton Crowley is back with another banger of an NBA history video, this time on Big Shot Rob.

Fun fact: this video contains the moment of terror that I'm pretty sure will flash through my mind and be the last thing I think of before I die.

I, for one, don't like that the ad algorithm on this board sees me as a late 40's male-identifying wrestling fan and thus has decided I need an Asian or Eastern European mail order bride.  Or prostitute, or whatever.

Mine today have all been right-wing anti-immigrant push polling. *Sighs*
