    2014 G1 Climax

Ran 20 days from 7/21 to now. The ROH World Title Tournament took two-ish months last year.

18,000 is the official number. Which is actually not a horrible number when you compare it to how they bombed at Yokohama Arena. And in the end the typhoon didn't come and affect anything in the area. Aside from all the people sitting in the bleachers getting rained on. Poor bastards. There were a couple of times you could see outside because of how weirdly that dome is set up and you could see that the wind was blowing pretty hard. I can't imagine it was a blast sitting in those upper bleachers.

I'm assuming he was making fun of the people who are calling this the best tournament ever, so in return I decided to be an equal level jackass because people who do stuff like that annoy me to no end.

Because he spent his time in Pancrase?
  8. WrestleMania X-Seven is the one I really wish I could have seen live on Pay-Per-View (got fucked over on that one but I was like nine so what was I gonna do?) and watching it now it would have been amazing to have been in the building that night. A close tie for second would be the Osaka shows from the G1 this year and last.

http://ustream.tv/njpwsub has the final for $25. Are you a fan of their title match from last year? If so, give it a shot.

    Matches 5-10 should be tremendous.

Well...it actually HAS happened before---in a G1, no less! NJPW, 8/5/12 (WPW/iPPV) Osaka Prefectural Gymnasium 6,500 Fans - Super No Vacancy Full House 7. G1 Climax - Block B: Shinsuke Nakamura [4] beat Kazuchika Okada [4] (16:16) with the Boma Ye.

I actually liked that Shibata/Ishii match more than the King of Pro Wrestling one. NJPW site updated, here's the match order tomorrow:

    2014 G1 Climax

That seems to be what everyone's been thinking since he beat Okada in Yokohama. Saw this in the Observer: "Tickets for the finals on 8/10 at the 33,000-seat Seibu Dome in Tokorazawa, which is about an hour North of Tokyo, are not expected to sell out, but nobody ever expected that in the first place. A crowd of more than 18,000 would be considered a major success. This is the first G-1 finals not at Sumo Hall in Tokyo, where the show in its early years and in recent years would sell out the 11,066 seats well in advance. For the finals, the $199, $150 and $88 tickets are sold out. But the other ticket categories, which are $102, and the back of the second deck and entire third deck from $73 down to $34 are still available." Typhoon #11 is coming this weekend . If it goes it's projected path it will hit Kyushu tomorrow and cross Honshu over the weekend. Saitama looks like it's at the very edge of the typhoon but one never knows. From what I saw on the forecasts, it looked like Saitama was going to get spared the worst of it. At least that's how it looked to me. Wonder what they'd do about the show if shit hits the fan?

Everyone does that in every fucking match almost. It's super annoying. I don't need dudes playing dead on the floor until the counts of 15-19 and getting back in to save their asses in most of the matches.

He kicks the guy in the face, then sweeps their leg out to drop them into a seated position. It's really not a bad spot but I'm tired of seeing it in every match. You know what else I'm tired of? Dudes not hitting their big moves. Everyone tries them, misses them and THEN hits them later in the match. Let Shibata hit the PK on a motherfucker early in the match and win.

Well to be fair, it is arguably the smallest of the three shows prior to the final on Sunday.

    2014 G1 Climax

Saw this on the Observer: Tomohiro Ishii is believed to have suffered a separated shoulder in his match with Davey Boy Smith Jr. in Osaka. The injury was when they were doing a Frankenseiner reveral spot and Ishii landed on his shoulder. He finished the match and still used a brainbuster for the finish. Wrestlers could not believe he still did the brainbuster. Miraculously, at this point, no wrestler has even missed one date. Ishii has tomorrow's show in Nagoya off and is scheduled to face Katsuyori Shibata on Wednesday in Takamatsu.
  19. That whole "Silas is Hansen's nephew" thing is just an urban legend.

I didn't even like the AJ/Goto match. That show as a whole was meh to me but I was really tired and that first half dragged so badly.
  21. NOMINATE: Katsuyori Shibata vs. Hiroshi Tanahashi, July 26th No, THIS is my new MOTY. Better than the Nakamura match in that the story was a lot better. Tanahashi publicly bashed Shibata's style of wrestling and Shibata responded saying he never liked Tanahashi's style either. This came off like both guys went in to prove that their style of wrestling is better and it had enough hate to fuel World War 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7. They did a nice callback to the 2013 G1 match as well.
  22. NOMINATE: Katsuyori Shibata vs. Shinsuke Nakamura, July 21st This is my new MOTY. They go fifteen minutes and beat the absolute dog shit out of each other in a match that was, in some aspects, more like a New Japan match from a decade ago rather than something you'd see either guy doing now, which is a refreshing change of pace. It was fascinating in that regard, because they turned back the clock a bit and proved that and old school strong style match still has a place in current New Japan. The crowd was really good for this match, too.

The second half of that show was incredible. The last four matches in particular delivered big time.
