  1. The scoring system is like democracy, it is the worst system ever...except for all the rest of them. With that said, you have a point. I think that Jones won round 2 marginally, as well as 4 and 5 more dominantly. Gustafsson won rounds 1 and 3 pretty dominantly and was moving towards winning 4 until he got brained by that spinning elbow. Watching the fight Gustafsson probably won more of the fight than Jones, but broken into 5 minute rounds Jones won three of the rounds. There were no 10-8 rounds in this fight, and if there was it would be round 4 when Gustafsson could barely stand by the end. Is the judging critera imperfect? Yes, but the fighters know what it is going in, and up until now we haven't found a better system. I want an instant rematch for this fight, and hopefully it is another barn burner. Yeah the systems never going to be perfect since in the end it comes down to an opinion. And the more you add to it and complicate things the worse it will get. If you cant get it right in the simplest form what chance is there adding a bunch of new factors into it. I think it was Machida/Rampage (if i'm remembering it right, only watched it the once) Pretty much nothing happened for 2 rounds and Rampage was given them (split decision maybe?) then in the 3rd Machida got a knock down and did some damage. The only significant strikes of the fight, yet since Rampage was given the first 2 for doing slightly more than nothing the decision goes his way. Under Pride scoring, where they judge it as a whole, i always thought Machida would have won that fight. Maybe adding an additional 10 point system at the end to judge the fight overall would help in some cases and also stop guys from just trying to win the majority of the rounds then coasting at the end. So a 3 round fight would be up to 40 points, 10 for each round and 10 for overall. But like i said, the more you add, the more it complicates things, and the worse it may get.
  2. Loved the fight, i thought Gustafsson won but admittedly i didn't like Jones so maybe a little favoritism in a very close fight. I kind of got a Silva/Sonnen vibe from it in that Gustafsson didn't go in fearing Jones reputation and made him look human. Like the guy or not you have to respect him for that fight. If only he never opened his mouth in interviews i'd probably be a fan after that. There are problems with scoring, ignoring the judges themselves. You can in theory have a guy barley just win 3 rounds doing no real damage and get his ass kicked for the next 2 yet would still win. I don't know how you fix the system though. 10-8 aren't given out that often and even then, if they were used more, would create new problems. How many fights would end in a draw if 10-8 rounds were more encouraged? I never got people thinking a fight should be a split decision. You cant have 3 opinions yourself, 2 conflicting with the other, you either think someone won or it was a draw.
  3. I'm sure it was mid credits when i watched in the cinema but its been several years so i could be remembering it wrong. Nowadays every film seems to have a post credit scene so we wait for em but back then i'm sure we had already got out of our seats as it started, so i don't think it was at the very end. Something i wondered, was it always the intent to include The Incredible Hulk film into the Marvel series? It just looks and feels so different to the rest or was it before they had settled on a style?
  4. Oh yeah definitely. I probably liked Chronicles more than most but i guess the only way this was getting made was toning down the budget and they couldn't do something in the style of Chronicles without some cash behind it. I could see them throwing more money at a 4th film if this does well so heres hoping. This is a little too much like Pitch Black though, if they hadn't tied it into Chronicles at the start of the film it could almost be a remake/re-imagining or whatever the current trend with films is these days. I don't know, maybe that's what they were going for, the first 2 films are old enough now that the younger people going to watch this probably haven't even seen them and are going because its got the guy from car films in it. If that's what it takes to get the series back on track, and they are willing to throw money at Vin Diesel to make what he wants as long as the Fast franchise is making them all of the money in the world then i'm fine with that.
  5. I watched Riddick last Wednesday when it was released here in the UK and while i liked the first 2 i wasn't as big a fan of this one. Not that it was really bad but it just dragged on a bit, could have really benefited from being 90 mins instead of 2 hours. Also, not that it matters to the films story or anything but the special effects were pretty terrible in places, but i guess that's down to the tiny budget. Despite that i hope it takes a decent amount of money at the box office and they make some more.
  6. I'm not going to say its the worst comic book movie ever, because there's some real crap out there, but it is possibly the worst in the Marvel series, with strong competition from Iron Man 3. I'd have to re-watch them both though to decide who gets that prestigious spot.
  7. If i remember right all the side missions can be finished off after beating the game, I had at least 2 left to complete after i'd finished it. The only thing that's not possible is the 'Catch' trophy.
  8. I think i'm in the minority in terms of fans coming back. I watched it all the time as a kid, sort of grew out of it then got back into it again late 90s/00s. Watched pretty much everything the WWF/E WCW and ECW showed on TV here and followed several indies and Japanese promotions through tapes, DVDs etc. I guess i just appreciated it more as an adult. Me and a friend would go and watch the Raw and SD tapings each year in London, but i gradually watched less and less until it was pretty much just the Rumble and the build up to Mania, followed by the Raw and SD in London. Eventually i stopped all together. I started again a little over a year ago and what brought me back this time was hearing about the runs CM Punk and Daniel Bryan were on. Especially in the case of Bryan, having seen the guy wrestle live several times in indies over here in front of maybe 150 people, going from that to wrestling successfully in front on thousands on TV and PPV was pretty amazing. I get that i am in an insignificant number of people who did that, there aren't many who would pick up watching again over a reason like that and that's not going to get them many fans back. Point is, people who just got bored of it or grew out of it probably wont come back and there isn't much the WWE can do about that, people move on. What they should focus on is keeping the fans they have happy while getting new ones. They are sort of keeping people happy with Punk/Bryan for the hardcores and Cena for the masses but if they want to get new fans, like others have said with the attitude era stuff, they need to give people a reason to watch each week. Its the casual fans that watch when its good and change channel when its not that they need to convert. Probably not the thing you want on a wrestling forum like this but its the stories and characters that need to improve, people need a reason to watch the following week. Brock feels like a big deal and something worth watching when he shows up, they need something each week that's 'must see'.
  9. Well holy crap, what a race that was. Alan Olivera breaking the world record (his won) by 0.2 of a second, crazy. Just got back, that was pretty crazy. Place was going nuts, every bit as entertaining as Friday nights 100m. Oliveira and Browne both beat their respective world records, Jonnie Peacock did a person best beating his own previous world record and 7 out of the 9 runners did at least a season or personal best. Absolute beast of a race. Cant forget Richard Whitehead, Hannah Cockroft and David Weirs win to send the crowd home happy. They are just on another level.
  10. I was lucky enough to get tickets to a fair amount of Olympic and Paralympic events. Wasn't an easy process with the initial ticket 'lottery' But we were able to snag some Wrestling tickets and Paralympic closing Ceremony tickets. Picked up a holiday package from Thomas Cook for tickets to the Basketball and Trampolining and then over the course of the games, refreshing the website 1000 times and countless phone calls (the hold music still haunts my dreams) we got tickets to the 2nd Trampolining event and several Paralympic athletic and swimming events. A lot of money spent on tickets, travel, hotels and food over 5-6 week period but all well worth it. A quick edit for the park and planning as a whole: The country gets a lot of stick for bad transport, planning and what not but i cant say a bad thing about how any of this went down. Every person working there, volunteering or just going to watch events, everyone was approachable and genuinely having a good time and enjoying what they were doing. Transport across London has never been easier, be it the underground or trains to and from London. We didn't see any of the big British moments like Super Saturday or Murrays big win but that didn't take anything away from the events we did see, loved every second of it. A few favorite things: Basketball, never been into it but what we got to see was insane. The actual matches were random, just depended on what was on on that day and we were lucky enough to get Team GB vs Spain were GB made some ridiculous comeback near the end and almost pulled out a victory, the place was going nuts. And in the second game the American team smashed the Olympic scoring record. Trampolining, great fun. I actually do a spot of trampolining, and where i train we have coaches and people compete at a national level. So while its probably a random thing to go and watch to 90% of the population it was good getting to see it at this level. Paralympic athletics and swimming. Amazing, we got to see several Team GB gold medal wins, its hard to describe the sound and atmosphere when something like that happens. As for the anniversary games. We got tickets to yesterdays event and tomorrows. No 'Super Saturday' again but we got Usain Bolt in the 100m last night and holy crap, hes something special to see. The race was great, he got off to a bad start and for a split second you though he might actually lose, till he just blew everyone away at the end and made it look easy. Looking forward to watching Jonnie Peacock in the 100m at tomorrows event too.
  11. Yeah i was a little surprised something like that would be in a show that, i assume, is entirely aimed at kids
  12. Watched the second episode of Beware the Batman, still not entirely sold on it but another solid episode. Couple of new characters introduced this time in Magpie, have no idea who that is, and Barbara Gordon. The fight scenes were animated well again and i like that they are showing a little of Batmans detective side too. The bulk of the episode is standalone but it seems like there will be a continuing story running through the series. Still not the show i want from a Batman series but nothing there to turn me off yet.
  13. Wonder Womans another one i haven't seen. Its a character i really cant get into in a solo capacity. If you rate it that highly is it worth checking out as a non fan?
  14. I'm not sold on the new Batman logo, it seems to cartoony if that makes sense? Man of Steel was (maybe overly) serious and something about the new logo just doesn't seem to fit, i dunno.
  15. I think I've seen all of the recent ones, at least since they started these DC movies with Superman:Doomsday, apart from the Green Lantern compilation movie if that counts. I'm heavily biased towards the Batman movies so i'd say my favorite was probably The Dark Knight Returns. Non Batman i'd say Superman vs The Elite and Flashpoint are up there though its been a long time since i watched the earlier ones so i could probably do with a revisit at some point.
  16. Yeah i thought it was pretty awesome. I was skeptical going in since The Flash bores the crap out of me but i enjoyed every second of it. Was surprised at how over the top violent it was.
  17. Ah, happy people.... I'm at the point where if we go to the cinema i want to switch my brain off after a day at work and watch stuff explode on an unnecessarily large screen. Pacific Rim will always beat Grown Ups in my heart even if it doesn't at the box office.
  18. Maybe its just me but who's watching all these comedies at the cinema? If i'm watching something on a 40ft screen there needs to be something to get out of it that you wouldn't get from watching it at home. Fart jokes aren't it. I probably go to the cinema more than most, there's a thing here called Orange Wednesday where if you have an Orange network phone, tickets are buy 1 get 1 free on a Wednesday. So me and my friends will go watch a film if there's anything remotely decent looking out. If there's a choice, big special effects films always win because they are just more entertaining to watch on a huge screen.
  19. Yeah i don't get all the fanboy stuff, is it not possible to enjoy both franchises or does that make me a bad person? Without getting into listmania with the exception 2 of the Marvel films i'd happily watch any of the Marvel movies, Dark Knight Trilogy and Man of Steel. And i'm looking forward to nearly all the upcoming comic book films. The only one i'm not sold on is the Guardians of the Galaxy but at least that is a good, if expensive, test to see if a non mainstream character can do well because of the Marvel banner behind it.
  20. That's the thing i don't get. I thought Flashpoint was supposed to be the end of adapting straight up comic stories. So 2 of the 3 films post Flashpoint? the first new DC Justice League story and a pre Flashpoint Batman Story. I guess its still speculation at this point though, Maybe Son of Batman is a Damian solo story which could also be pretty cool.
  21. Finally watched the 3rd Berserk movie. Its pretty much what you expect if you've seen the first 2. The animation is questionable in places and they naturally cut a lot out to get it all into a 100min film but its a good watch and there is finally an animated Skull Knight. I hope they continue on with the movies since these 3 only take us to where the TV series ended and there is plenty of manga to catch up on now. Maybe some stand alone stuff before another trilogy. A short OVA to fill in what happened after the ending but before the post credit scene and to introduce the characters they left out, then one of The Black Swordsman stuff from book 1 perhaps? How were they received in japan? anyone know if they did well enough to continue on with the series?
  22. Just got around to watching the first episode of Beware the Batman, i'd forgotten all about it until the board was back up. Mixed views so far, its no Young Justice but its not bad or anything. I've never been a fan of CGI heavy or entirely CGI shows, i just cant get into the style, so it had that against it going in. I like the use of newer and less mainstream villains, the fights were well done and i'm undecided on the changes to Alfred but its an interesting enough twist that i'm willing to give it a shot. What i don't like is the whole 'new to being batman' thing, same with The Batman show. He should be Batman and he should be the best at everything. I don't want a show about Bruce learning to be Batman, i want a show about Batman. Still, i'll stick with it. I'd forgotten about the Flashpoint movie coming out so i'll give that a shot at some point as well. Interested in the other DC animated movie news though. Whats the word on the new Justice League movie? i read the first few issues of the new DC comics, if its just the origin and Darkseid it could be pretty good. The 2 i am really interested in though are the new Batman movies. One based on the Arkham video games has no reason not to be awesome and the Damien one should be interesting too.
