    CMLL vs. AEW show spoiler:

      Hide contents

The CMLL's Blue Panther/Ultimo Guerrero/Mistico/Volador Jr. defeated AEW's Bryan Danielson/Jon Moxley/Claudio Castagnoli/Matt Sydal at CMLL's Homenaje a Dos Leyendas. It was Bryan Danielson's Arena Mexico debut.

Afterwards Bryan Danielson issued a singles match challenge to Blue Panther for next Friday night's Arena Mexico show on April 5, which Panther accepted. Bryan Danielson had wanted this for many years. Nice one. What a bucket list of dream matches Bryan is ticking off.

i hope someone here links that spoilered match when it pops up online.

  2. great list. i'm not familiar with the Batman Adventures, but i love the rest of them.

some more Batman stories that i quite enjoy:

Batman #608-619 (Hush) - works exceptionally well as a 'greatest hits' type story
    Bat-Manga - such a fun, bizarre take.
Batman '66 - the digital first series by Jeff Parker was amazing. highly recommended.
Batman: Whatever Happened to the Caped Crusader? - by Neil Gaiman. 'Nuff said!

Yes. While all the X-Men didn't meet him in "Cold Comfort," Forge was there standing with them when he helped free them from the Phalanx in Season 5.

The continuity of this show has never been perfect.

we're all better off pretending s5 doesn't exist. the change in animation + voices (especially Gambit) makes it impossible for me to watch. that said, i do remember liking the Wolverine/Captain America episode.

For those of you in the know, can I ask what's the differences in powers between Mystique and Morph? Morph has their powers too? If so, isn't he OP and Mystique kind of trash in comparison?

they're essentially the same. Morph never had a real run in the mainline comics, so their powers haven't really been explored. I expect that it will be a lot of vagueness in this series as well. Morph is a character that i loved in the initial series and was bummed that the comic version, Changeling, was basically a one-shot character from the first few issues back in the '60s and never appeared again. I'm just glad to see them again.

wouldn’t be a Marvel show/movie if it didn’t have plot holes and continuity errors.

I’m just enjoying it for what it is. I loved Jean versus Madelyne, and seeing Magik/Darkchylde. That shit was dope as all hell.

agreed on all points. to paraphrase DEAN, X-Men '97 rules the motherfucking world.

  4. i remember recording the ps1 WCW Nitro character select screen on VHS. i loved that every wrestler cut a short promo. a few of them (DDP, Eddie, and Alex Wright off the top of my head) had two different versions. and i have Savage's committed to memory:

"watch the flying elbow drop off the top rope. Not only beats people 1-2-3, but i hurt 'em real bad!"

spent plenty of time with that game, WWF Warzone, and WWF Attitude. but once those AKI games came out? never looked back.

If you want a copy of the show you have to do it the way god intended: send a money order for $27 to the sketchiest person you've ever met on the internet then wait 6-8 weeks for the VHS tape that also contains the last half of Desperado taped off of Showtime.

i have done this plenty of times. i even sent CASH through the mail a few times. always a crapshoot on when/if you get the correct items, or for that matter anything at all.

    Show #161 – 12 October 1998

    • "I don’t hate or disrespect women quite enough to also screencap and share a shot of Chae grooving! Small victories.
    • Warrior comes out and, though he does so exceedingly cryptically, says basically this: Hey Stinger, long time, no see. We’re still painting our faces and kicking ass, huh? Anyway, I’m a WWF guy, really, but I’ve been keeping an eye on you from afar and I’m real proud of you and your success in WCW, bruh. I’m only here in WCW to face Hogan; this is your domain. On that note, and in respect to the fact that you run WCW and not me, I humbly propose the following: You want to I have strong opinions about former WWF/WCW/WWE Champion Terry Bollea which you should PM me about. But I wanted to express them here too because I can't help myself’s world up and so do I, so how about we tag up tonight for old time’s sake against those two chumps you don’t like? Of course, he says it in an impenetrable way that gets him booed by the end of it, LOL.
    • I think saying that someone is on your “last nerve” is more a Southern thing and a gendered thing than a racial thing. I had a lady teacher who would tell students they had gone past touching her last nerve and were now on her “reserved nerve.” It was a pretty clever play on that phrase!
    • LOL, Gene Okerlund interviews Rick Steiner, but Chucky, the Living Doll of Terror cuts in. Chucky starts by saying, and I swear this is an accurate paraphrase, I GET TO SIMULATE SEX WITH JENNIFER TILLY ON A MOVIE SET TO GET PAID WHILE YOU STAND THERE AND TALK TO RICK STEINER FOR YOUR BREAD. Then, holy shit, Chucky says “Shut the hell up” to Okerlund, and the crowd pops, and Rick says, “Don’t let him talk to you like that.” HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Chucky just shits on poor dumb Rick and then declares that he’s shooting a movie with Scott Steiner in the lead and won’t countenance any threats against Scotty’s health. Yes, the fictional murderous doll is casting Scott Steiner in an IRL movie. This is a confounding segment, baffling in every way if you think about it for just two seconds. Remember my remark about the WWF pulling off half the Undertaker fuckery that it did being a credit to the creative of Vinnie and company? See this segment as another point in my favor.
    • Tony S. notes that Mortal Kombat: Conquest is premiering after Nitro, and I think that Warrior’s goofy ass would have made a great guest Kombatant in one of the new MK games. Warrior’s jacket design desecrates the American flag. Desecrating the American flag: Now, that’s edgy!
    • are you implying that you're taking the screenshots but refusing to share them?
    • love the unintended framistan.
    • midwestern white boy born and raised here. have heard "getting on my last nerve" all my life. i certainly don't think of it as gendered or racial, although maybe i'm just oblivious?
    • Everything with Chucky in WCW is just so bafflingly crazy. why did it even exist in the first place? obviously there's not going to be a match. how does this really promote the movie? Why was Rick Steiner chosen to be the recipient of Chucky's promo?
    • speaking of Mortal Kombat, i've always wanted to see Mortis and Glacier (and Wrath too i guess) make actual MK appearances. Legitimately a dream i've had for years. I even bought this shirt as soon as i heard about it (from Brian Cage wearing one, for what its worth):
    • Mortis Kombat fight shirt
    • but also, that Mortal Kombat: Conquest show is awful. very boring. i tried watching it live in '98 and thought it sucked. i gave it another shot probably 10-12 years ago and couldn't make it past the first few eps. Highly UNrecommended.

that thought popped into my head at work today and i came to post something similar.

re: MCMGs. i'm fully aboard the "sign them" train. they can both still go. still hoping we get MCMGs/FTR somewhere at some point.

  8. this was awesome. Ep1 was a perfect primer to set up the series and status quo. it was like fitting into an old jacket. Ep2 was amazing. the trial. storm's going away letter. the cliffhanger. holy shit, i am 100% on board this train.

i would also be down with a continuation of Spider-Man TAS. besides ending the series on a cliffhanger, they could bridge the gap and morph the series into Spider-Man Unlimited (which i never quite figured out if it was supposed to be a continuation or not.)

Think I'm one of the very few who hasn't changed their username since then.

checking in. i've been using this handle for ~20 years. I tried to dredge through the wayback machine to find when i originally registered, and could only get as far back as 2006. I know i lurked here for a long time before signing up.
not DVDVR related, but on another board, a couple other guys and I used to "raid" different wrestling boards. signing up, spamming the shit out of them, and getting ourselves banned. Only to repeat the process again and again. most places obviously weren't IP banning at that point obviously.  I tended to use variations of my name: rotziwt, TWI2TOR, "the twiz", etc. such good times.

I would posit that the sixth match that just misses the list, but that should get an honorable mention, should be Warrior/Savage at WM VII. That match is the ideal form of the WWE big match style to the point that I'd say it's the blueprint for every other big match that tried to give the culmination of a major story that came after it. You can draw a line from it to, say, "I'm sorry, I love you" or Austin shaking hands with Vince after aligning with him.

that was probably my first favorite match that i would watch and rewatch constantly. my two favorites from when i was a kid. Savage, who is larger than life and has the best voice of all time, and Warrior, who at the time was a superhero come to life.

    Hey guys, remember D’Lo Brown?

LOVED his gimmick as European Champion as being announced from a different city in Europe each appearance.

his 2003-2004 run in TNA was surprisingly good, too. He comes in, cuts what is now the standard "i'm going to show [the previous company i worked for] that they didn't know what they had" promo. He seemed motivated in his matches to prove that.

Years from now, remember this, when the newly All Elite Izzy takes her revenge like Nakia from Kill Bill Vol 1 will take on the Black Mamba some day.  Her being the one to send Mercedes back to WWE or possibly even into retirement... that's what pro wrestling is all about.

i just looked her up. i remember hearing about the Bayley superfan, but have never watched NXT so didn't view it firsthand. Izzy Moreno is now 16 and made her debut a few months back at Mission Pro Wrestling (run by Thunder Rosa). so that's.... pretty awesome actually.

OTOH, former Raw Tag Team Champion Nicholas Cone is also 16. based on a recent picture online, i would not assume he is pursuing an in-ring career.

To me, this seems like it is exactly the kind of book she's best at--a bunch of weirdos who are all too horny and for whom you need a Mulder corkboard to keep track of both sexual and non-sexual relationships

her Secret 6 run is fantastic, isn't it? you framing her upcoming X-Men stint as relative to that could not excite me more. [Reader, you make your own determination if i mean that in a sexual or non-sexual way]

  13. i just want to pop in here and point out that the 80s Transformers and GI Joe cartoons are legitimately good. they're not the fucking Sopranos, or Game of Thrones, or what have you, but for 80s kids TV, animated or not, they are pillars of quality. Their contemporaries: He-Man, Thundercats, MASK, GoBots, et. all., are all objectively of lower quality, but Transformers and GI Joe i found hold up reasonably well for what they are.

source: i love cartoons (you may remember my 'Help me find all the cartoons' thread from a few years ago) and finished rewatching those two series a year or two back.

Get well soon Mark. Also don’t if anyone watches Napoleon Blownaparts videos on YouTube but he just posted part 1 on the history of the MMA linear heavyweight championship on Saturday that features Coleman prominently.

Napoleon is awesome. been a fan since he did the humongous PRIDE NEVER DIE videos. i even ordered his new tshirt a week or two ago. i never thought i'd be someone who has a "favorite youtuber", but here i am.

good luck and speedy recover to Coleman.

    Thunder Interlude – show number thirty-four – 1 October 1998

    • Aw, the story of Mike Enos, TV title contender has unfortunately gone off the rails…

i was really hoping that i could track down Enos getting a TV title shot sometime in the near future after this match, but alas....

to make up for it, they do run back the Enos/Flynn match on a February Nitro, so you have that to look forward to! Enos DOES eventually get a shot at the US Title, but it's on WCW Saturday Night about a year from this point. Based on the champ at that point, it's probably a pretty good match, but unfortunately, it's also Enos' last for WCW. oh, sorry. Spoiler alert! but then again, with the state of 1999 WCW, maybe that doesn't signify anything....

  16. Mercedes will not be as big a deal as she could be as long as AEW sticks to its "one women's match per show" mandate. i hope this is the incentive they need to get rid of the rigidity and be able to mix things up.

Not to make it worse or rub salt in it, but AoA Blink also got a release in an earlier wave. Unless something massive changed, she was pretty available at below retail though.

Blink is on my radar, and i am waiting for the right price. i'm also looking at some other figures to complement the set, even if they're not really AoA figures- obviously need a Mr. Sinister. there's a nice black suit/mohawk Storm that i think fits as well. Keeping an eye out for a Gambit that thematically fits as well, but that is proving more challenging.

look, i need somebody to tell me that i don't need to track down all of the Marvel Legends: Age of Apocalypse figures from a few years ago.  there's two waves, and that's just too much, but i know that if i grab just one (Morph) or two (X-Man), then i won't be able to control myself. HELP!

you guys were no help at all, and my impulses won out over my self control. that said, i did score quite a good deal to get 75% of these figures. the rest were all at or near market value, so i still spent more than i should have, but what can you do .....

It looks like Bloody Elbow has been sold. I was wondering why they didn't have any new tweets in the last week or so.

more so than that, the site was sold and the entire staff was laid off. BE had a big hand in bringing light to the anti-trust lawsuit against the UFC, as well as exposing a lot of ONE's questionable financials. i didn't visit the site often, but their work will be missed. Hope the staff can find new places to ply their trade.
