  1. Tough loss. Tai had the right game plan with the leg kicks and it was effective. It's just too bad he couldn't keep his balance better. Volkov is in a tough position. He's got losses to Aspinall, Gane and Blaydes, who are ahead of him. Stipe and Jones aren't an option, which leaves Sergei Pavlovich who's not looking back for anyone right now.
  2. Over the last year, I've been dying laughing at Daniel Cormier's evolution of the post fight interview. When he started doing them, guys would grab the mic after he did the "Give it up one last time for so and so." It's the cringiest shit when a fighter does that. So over the last 9 months Cormier has gotten really good at pivoting away from the fighter and shielding the the mic. Then he started doing this thing, especially on ESPN fight night cards, where he'll fast walk away and give the final line as he's heading out the door. I wish he snapped on Kape and Radtke like he did that dude on the last ABC card who said fuck.
  3. Carlos Ulberg looked good, but calling out Dominick Reyes seems like a weak call out. Especially considering Ulberg will probably be ranked next to him, or even given his spot without even having to fight him.
  4. On a brighter note, Laura Sanko is doing her first PPV on commentary tonight, and probably should be doing more in the future.
  5. Hey all. I was farting around with the themes to try and figure out what, if anything, was broken from updates. I've heard some some work on well on mobile and some don't play nice. I can't say I really learned anything in my digging around, but I'll keep tinkering with it and will try not to break the board. Anyway. While I was in the editor I decided to make a Dallas Cowboys inspired theme in honor of Dean. I wish I did it a long time ago so the man could have enjoyed it himself. So if you're a Dallas fan. a Dean fan, or really like Navy Blue and Silver, you can check that out.
  6. Starting the show with dudes getting choked out and Gilbert Burns playing surprise translator for the Brazilians.. Lookin' like a good night.
  7. Detroit isn't allowed to have a good season. Cut it out.
  8. I'll give Kape some credit, "Your fucking porn cartoon addiction" was funnier than anything Sean Strickland said.
  9. Star of the press conference is clearly Tai Tuivasa sitting between Manel Kape and Adesanya.
  10. Kinda hoping Joe gets the title, puts MJF on the shelf, Adam Cole beats Joe, and then we get to see if Adam will defend against his returning friend. If you would've told me even just three months ago, that I'd be excited about a very long term Adam Cole/MJF storyline, I would've died laughing. But I love this story. Liked the Swerve promo, but it's been so long since I've been interested in Adam Page's act, it almost felt sad. I'm hoping they've got something fun for both guys to do. Page is talented and I want to root for him, but he needs a good story to stay hot.
  11. I'm watching a clip of it(edit: Tony K addressing the Collision crowd tonight), and it sounds like the audience kinda goes back and forth, but the boos really started when he said The Board of Discipline is made of only lawyers. He then said he "feared for his safety." which got more boos. Nothing gets more heel heat than telling an arena of wrestling fans: "I was scared and had to get lawyers to tell me what to do." ...even if he was right to feel that way and do so.
  12. During that period when Kevin's contract was coming up, WWE felt like it was at an all time low in terms of creativity and moral. Owens had a choice of either be apart of getting the ship back on course, or going to a company that, at the time, already had more talent than it knew what to do with. Cody jumping and KO/Sami staying honestly was best for wrestling fans. WWE produced some of its best storytelling in years with them, which meant AEW had to step up its storytelling game as well.
  13. I dunno, I feel like he was not very Punk at all. It kinda felt, and I'm armchair mindreading here, like he thought he could show up in AEW and be all of the things he thought he should've been in WWE. The locker room leader, the guy who draws the house, and teaches the youngsters how to "do business the right way." I'd say in this case AEW was "Punk" and Punk was the guy who thought he was punk but really just wanted to be the establishment. But what do I know. I don't know these people. I've heard the locker room was pretty toxic before he ever got there, and some of the folks being labeled as "hard to work with" are victims of clique bullshit. So maybe they're all lame balls and there is no hero in this story.
  14. I was really excited for Punk because he looked so happy when he came back, and the matches were good. But once he started doing the "these kids don't know how to draw money" act I really didn't care if he came back.
  15. Rose looks healthier at weigh-ins, but looked a little small compared to Manon Fiorot. I think that's probably the most interesting fight on the card. Rose would basically interject herself into the the title picture with a win, or Manon can possibly separate herself from Blanchfield as a title contender, with a win over one of the biggest female names in the company. Very interested to see how Rose looks in this weight class. We may very close to a Rose vs. Valentina fight at any rate.
  16. oooo Thanks for the heads up on the Columbo set even though it's not a show that I have any positive connection. I'm mostly familiar with the 90s time period. Young me didn't really like it. I thought he was quirky but it felt like a show for old people. But older me has seen Peter Falk work with Cassavettes, and now adores the guys work.
  17. Vinegar Syndrome with a big Labor Day Warehouse clearing sale. So if you were waiting on that 4k Beastmaster, it's now 15 bucks. It's not the awesome LE box, but it does have a slipcover the discs are the same. A lot of partner label discs heavily discounted too. So if you were holding out on some of those oddities, this might be a good price point to jump in. ---- Some recent acquisitions to the collection: Got the In The Line of Duty set, which has Yes, Madam in it. That's worth the price of admission alone. Great great movie. My Cynthia Rothrock collection expands. Also got Shout Factory's Sonny Chiba Collection set, which has 7 movies, including one of my faves Samurai Reincarnation. Really excited to dive into this one, as Chiba is one of my childhood heroes. Pulled the trigger on the first Eurocrypt of Christopher Lee. This thing is stacked. Does Severin have the wildest box sets? Their All Our Haunts Are Ours set is another beast.
  18. Just got around to the co-main and main. Anthony Smith looked markedly better than his last fight, even when he survived that nasty shot to the eye. I thought the decision was right, and I think Spann will watch that third round back with some regret. Everyone singing Zombie was a beautiful moment. This is the first time in a loooooong time that Max has fought less than 15 minutes. I kinda don't blame Zombie for just saying fuck it and going for it. Because playing back and forth with Max Holloway sucks.
