  1. I’d also be about this getting Hobbs in the G1 this year. That would be rad he’d be great to send over instead of Archer as a G1 big guy, no offense to Archer he does great work in the G1 but Hobbs would be so fresh.

How is TAKA these days? Used to be one of my faves back in those days...

In a similar vein, Masato Tanaka is still going strong and has visited the US a few times lately, would LOVE to see him pop up for a few AEW marches...

TAKA is ok these days. His athleticism is pretty much gone but he can do a good match with mat work and simple straightforward wrestling. Him and Danielson could probably have a good match together. Also him and Rocky Romero could probably sleepwalk through a perfectly fine match together

  3. Would love to see Despy finally win one. Also would love to see Douki make the finals just cause he’s great and I’ll always have a soft spot for him after Taichi gave that speech about/to him after the one TakaTaichiMania

Think of the poor graphic designers who have mere seconds to get a match graphic together

They have a bunch ready to go like news agencies with celebrity obits. They spend there week just making all possible match ups for upcoming events

  5. The only thing wrong with the KOPW stips is that the strap match is touch four corners rules. I love that they’re have an eating contest and the first round will be a lively ten minutes of Loa throwing bombs and OKhan being awesome people need to stop taking shit seriously (especially KOPW title matches they’re suppose to be fun and different for the most part)

  6. If that’s a G1 block start have Bryan and Tanahashi on the first night cause I don’t know if Tana would be in shape for the match to be very great otherwise or even happen for that matter.

But honestly yes I want all of these to become real. Bryan/Despy would be so amazing and I never really considered it before but now I need it to happen

  7. I wanted Christian to drop the belt so The Patriarchy could win the tag belts and Freebird rules them, give Nick experience tagging with Christian regularly and in big matches. Killswitch can fill in for Christian on Rampage matches and other low stakes affairs.

The whole "nothing you did before matters" thing is insane when you consider that the initial strategy to build the company in the early 80s was to just steal the hottest wrestlers from other places and push them immediately.  Which then leads me to ask, when did Vince settle into the strategy of "push first, then pull back just to teach them a lesson?"  Because he certainly didn't do that shit in the 80s.

Apparently cause I’m Vince and others minds if what happened before mattered business would have never went down ever cause…….

Everybody I think the whole Vince was a promotional genius was all a lie and it was just that he was a sociopathic narcissist asshole who didn’t honor or respect the unwritten code of wrestler promotion to put everyone else out of business or at least fry up their business to the point they couldn’t compete.

  9. What I caught of last night was mostly really great stuff. Stings last match was a great one to go out on. Everyone worked their asses off and it was pretty great seeing Stings sons involved at the start. Could have done without Flair showing up and taking time but I get that Sting and him have history and it’s probably something Sting wanted.

Bryan and Kingston was my non-Sting draw and they delivered so well. Just a fantastic all around pro wrestling match and I loved Eddie getting to stand tall. As much as I love that AEW was able to let Sting end his career how he wanted I think my favorite thing about AEW is that Eddie Kingston finally gets to have a run as a star at the national level. He and Danielson might be IMO the two best North American wrestlers of this century and getting to see them work a masterpiece was fantastic.

  10. The best thing for the match is for Sting to go over and the tag belts get vacated after. The worst case is for Sting and the Bucks to decide to make the match a Christian parable about the bucks finding salvation and then winning and being reborn as the young bucks again, there is a non-zero percent chance of this happening

  11. I want to clarify that when I said there needs to be increased shorter matches I definitely was not calling for a return of crash TV style where ever match ends with some bs. More give a variety of how matches both progress and end. More clear differences in hierarchy would be very good. If Mox runs through lower guys in 5 minutes it will mean more when one of those lower guys goes 10 with him.
I feel like Tony Kahn is trying to meld North America TV wrestling with old school ROH match making and Japan roster hierarchy and it’s not perfect and I’m not sure if it will ever properly integrate

Based on the past few pages of discussion I'm gonna write something I truly believe that is probably gonna baffle some people here:

I don't think the value of a good wrestling match for the simple sake of having a good match has ever been lower. It is probably the most common thing going in wrestling across the entire industry, you load up an indie show and likely most of the card is aiming for just that, even WWE has more of it than they have at arguably any other time (handwaves at the SD 6 era) and... I just don't care that much any more about them. TBF this is magnified by so many matches, even stylistically different ones, being paced rather similarly. Double it again when so many of these matches have obvious winners. This doesn't mean I'm not intrigued by a randomly thrown together match if there is something inherently intriguing about it or of the quality is simply outstanding, but to grab a random name that was mentioned a page back I'll for example start caring about Bryan Keith when I'm given a reason beyond "he wrestles a good match before losing" (for those who just wanted to see Malakai finally in a singles match again that I fully understand and agree with).

When everyone is special no one is special. There needs to be a return to having some matches be used solely for moving stories along without being a “good match” for 10 minutes before hand. Let a match be short and cut off because of something (runin, screwy finish, count out, anything) that will move the story for one or more of the wrestlers.

I think this issue is one of the reasons I’m burned out on wrestling, Oh my god is Gedo a genius for House of Torture? They make the rest of the card more special because they’re not slogs to get through. No I think that’s a reach HOT is just bad.

  13. They need to establish Deonna as a big player now before Mercedes Monè debuts and takes screen time and Deonna ends up getting forgotten. It could still happen like when Taz got lost in the shuffle when the Radicalz debuted shortly after him.
