I have added the Rich Eison show to my daily podcast schedule after getting annoyed by Lebatard. How many times can Rich go on air to announce the death of a friend. I watch his announcement of Stuart Scott's passing if it shows up in my list and if there was a time I ever thought someone was going to quit; its right there.

Why is Jericho getting the best guys. Ugh. It never ends. At least Kevin Kelley will harp at length about Jericho's beef with LIJ.

    Yeah, about that

    https://www.pwtorch.com/site/2024/03/08/kevin-kelly-announcer-since-the-launch-of-collision-last-summer-fired-by-aew/

Kevin Kelly, who was part of the AEW Collision commentary team since the launch of the show last summer, has been fired by AEW according to PWTorch sources.

Kelly was removed from the AEW roster page earlier today. AEW taped Collision tonight and Fightful reported that the announce team for Collision was Tony Schiavone and Nigel McGuinness with Kelly nowhere to be seen during the taping.

Kelly’s posts on social media last weekend cost him his job, according to PWTorch sources. Kelly gained a lot of attention when he went on TwitterX last weekend and accused ROH announcer Ian Riccaboni of sabotaging his career and of libel.

“When you go out of your way to intentionally mischaracterize my raising awareness of the global horrors of child trafficking to a fringe conspiracy theory that everyone knows is bulls–t in order to hurt my career and standing in the industry, that at the very least is libelous,” wrote Kelly on X.

Kelly also posted about his dissatisfaction with how he was being used in AEW.

“But the idea of what I bring to the table is lost there because Ian libeled me,” wrote Kelly. “So I sit on the bench, valued by my peers, waiting to get my number called, keep asking why but get pushed aside. It’s okay, because there is no one better than me. Ask the ones that know and they’ll tell you.”

Kelly got off to a rough start as host of Collision, coming across as not being familiar with the product, names of signature moves, and the history of wrestlers and ongoing feuds. He had a strong reputation from his calling the English broadcasts of some of New Japan’s best events during a peak period for that company which endeared him to much of the AEW fanbase, but that goodwill went away quickly. Kelly finished last in our poll late last year asking readers who the best announcer in AEW was. He finished with 9 percent of the vote. Excalibur finished first followed by Taz who received twice the votes Kelly received.

Kelly’s performances were seen as subpar within AEW, including Tony Khan apparently, since Tony Schiavone was called to take over the lead play-by-play role a few months into Collision’s run on TNT.

That is some real reddit-ass merchandise.

Those are not WWE merch, Those are the merch he had on his Pro Wrestling T's store that is shutting down.

EDIT: Keep reading the thread, idiot before you respond....

Short answer: check the lucha folder for recommendations and YT links for folks like Hechicero.

I watched the whole Fantastica Mania NJPW tour this year and was super impressed with the CMLL guys. They were also really good without killing themselves until they got to Korakuen Hall and Sobarnito Jr tried to kill Templeario off the hardest part of the ring.

  5. Nick Wayne's Theme Song is something..."About to leave with the title and somebody's daughter" is pretty good for a 18 year old guys theme.

    Loved FTRKingston vs BCC

Atlantis Jr/Jericho was tough to watch at times.

Never a fan of the "Repel from the cealing" after Owen, but as a 1 time for Sting, OK.

I was going to buy the PPV anyway but this was a good kickoff to "go home week" (Collision is the actual go home show)

What are the best Interviews (or portions of) specifically concerning 'Pro Wrestling Booking'? Cornette must have one, yeah? Has Heyman ever discussed booking philosophies in length? Or Bill Watts? Or Dusty?

Cornette's booking videos are...Interesting. His Guest Booker with the Invasion was mind bending. He did one that was okay with the Wrestletalk guys when he went over to England a few years back.

  7. I don't care about TV ratings, Overnight Ratings are the bain of my Wrestling Fandom. They mean less then nothing in the land of DVR +7, Social engagements and synergy. Tennis Racket Guy and "The Pain in the ass" Last doing quarter by quarter rating breakdowns is foolishness and Meltzer spending 1/2 of the news letter on them is galling when I read it.

The company that airs them is happy, over the moon about what AEW brings them. To say anything overwise is just ignoring the press releases they send out along with the amount of times they use AEW to promote other WBDiscovery projects. Could that all change tomorrow? 100%; but Live Content rules these days and 5+ hours of it that allows them to talk about how great they are and I don't see it changing anytime soon.

Taz(z) was too short to be taken seriously by McRapist. His downfall had little to do with perennial low to mid-carders like Perry Saturn or Dean Malenko or top stars like Benoit or Eddie. I'm not sure that Deonna needs to establish herself as a 'big' player. She has the mic and ring skills to play the long game. She's a HEEL tho. There's nothing about her that's ever suggested babyface.

The thought process when all of this went down was that Tazz was supposed to be a really big deal as the sawed off killer for Vince, but then the RadicalZ came in and it all went to hell. Just the timing was against him. All four of those guys are going to push Tazz down the list.

  9. I love me some Tanahashi, but there is no way he should be in contention for any titles at this point in his career. Seeing him "running" across the ring is painful. I'd make it Tsuji or another young up and comer that Nic can put under his wing like Mox did with Shooter. No matter what you think of Shota's booking, the relationship with Mox has helped

Is there anyone doing a Fantasy Bracket challenge for the New Japan Cup?

It was solid. The Luke one was really good, he deserves a special honor somewhere for defending freedom of speech in this country. Flash one showed just how much he got fucked over; Lil Jon came off as a really smart guy who knows that he made chicken salad out of chicken shit. The Fat Joe one showed me a lot of stuff I wasn't aware of.

And it was produced by Peter Rosenburg, who no matter what you think of him, loves the subject matter

under previous WWE regimes, Gunther would get the "doesn't know what day things are" gimmick for mixing up the day that the Rumble is on

Ive noticed that is a problem with both AEW and WWE have an issue with getting the wrong day out there with them bouncing between Saturday and Sunday. Time for a big banner in Gorilla

Has Gallows ever talked about this? His "F@ck Dr Death" Story is one of my favorites so I gotta imagine the backstage part of this is up there

The difference is that your boss violating the Casual Fridays taboo is confined to your office. Tony Khan routinely does this publicly and embarrasses himself, the AEW roster, his own company, and his broadcasting partners at Warner Bros. Discovery.

And yet....no one seems to say anything about being Embarrassed and continue to cash cheques or sign cheques for him.

As an AEW fan, Would I rather he not do it or if he had to; sign in to his DVDVR account to do it? Yes

As just a guy that may have a conversation like that with my wrestling buddies, Im a little happy that "One of Us" has screw you money and cares enough to say it.

AEW is picking the worst possible time to add more PPV events when their ticket sales and numbers are on the decline.

It might be alright for world's end because its after christmas and tickets to a PPV are an easy christmas/other holiday gift. Also "Take the kids out saturday night so Grandma looks after the kids for New Years Eve"

  15. I made a locker room's collective head explode when I suggested not using Hard Rock/Heavy Metal as the music before the show. I said "How much Death Metal do you think is being played in the mini van heading to the show tonight?" We were in rural New Brunswick so I put together a playlist of stuff that was popular on Radio/streaming, high energy.

When it came time to pick a theme for myself, I choose a pop style hip hop song, and the boss asked me why and gave me a bunch of Butt Rock songs I should use. Why would I want the same style that everyone else on the show has, I want to be different.

Yeah so Lexis King's debut.  The entrance is pretty cool although for someone who isn't trying be like his dad he acts like a Loose Cannon. But he gets in the ring and is rather average.  He is going to get his biggest opportunity but it is going to be a serious work in progress

I noticed the Pillman 4 Horseman logo but I couldn't get what what was on the back of his tights.
