TRAIL OF BLOOD never grabbed me like LONE WILD AND CUB or Hideo Gosha's films. Have you seen the rest of the series? Also, make sure to watch some Hideo Gosha, like GOYOKIN or HITOKIRI or BANDITS VS SAMURAI SQUADRON. Dude's amazing.

Seriously, I know it'll never happen, but it'd be swell if NOAH re-entered All Japan. If you don't count the freelancers and gaijin they usually hire, both companies have about 10-12 roster members. Together they'd have an actual, viable roster--though admittedly it would look a lot like NOAH from a few years ago, plus Suwama (and Akebono, if he's still able to wrestle). Maybe add Fujita to the mix. All hot air, really. Most likely course of action is that they both keep struggling along, with more and more wrestlers becoming freelancers.

The specific job I applied for was as part of a teaching team in a first-year university program. I'd basically have been a tutorial leader, though one with a decent salary and a three-year contract. But no go there. I've applied for a tenure-track position or two, but since I'm ABD those aren't going to come my way. My only hope for the Fall, if I want to stay in academia, is to get hired to teach individual courses, but those are poorly paid--you get less than $5000 a course (it's more like $4000 after taxes).

Fuck the academic job market. I just found out that I didn't even make the interview stage for a teaching position. I'll be finishing my dissertation in about a month, and should have a PhD soon. I've taught several university courses, presented my research at international conferences, and have been published in top-tier academic journals, but I can't even get a job as a fucking tutor. My only hope is to piece together session work in the fall, which pays so terribly that I can hardly justify the effort. Just totally fuck it.

Amy Adams' 'Story of Your Life' Goes to Paramount for $20 Million Very excited about this. I read over 200 short stories last year, and Ted Chiang's "The Story of Your Life" was one of my favourites. Adams is great, and Villenueve is one of the best young(ish) directors working right now, IMO. (Still haven't seen THE DOUBLE, though).

There are lots of great actors, and these lame-os are taking their jobs.

Probably an unpopular choice, given the demographics around here, but John Cusak has been phoning it in since 2000, and his presence in any given film makes me less interested in seeing it. He's even been in a few decent films since then, and been ok in his role, but virtually any other actor would have been just as good or better (e.g. THE PAPERBOY).

Noah Wyle and Patrick Wilson are two actors it's hard to give a fuck about. Both are perfectly acceptable actors, but why not get someone else?
