  1. I watched Late Night With the Devil yesterday as well, I loved how it constantly ratcheted the tension up so that even perfectly normal scenes had you on Edge. Dastmalchian does a great job portraying someone who is good at heart trying to succeed in the heartless world of showbiz.  I also think the actors who played Lilly and Carmichael did their jobs perfectly, Lilly just added to the tension by being there and Carmichael deflated things just enough to keep it headed to the climax perfectly. It's just a bummer that the AI art thing and the Abu Dhabi funding kind of leave a bitter taste in my mouth, as the film creates a world that I'd love to see more of.

  2. It only took me 155.7 hours, but I've finally beaten Persona 5 Royal on  my PC and 100%ed the achievements.  the P2 Duology will always be my favorites in my heart (despite aging like milk from a mechanics standpoint) but this feels to me like the modern Persona game perfected.

Now to take a break, play some non-RPG stuff and then dive into Trails to Azure.

We you the guy who kept logging into the Wi-Fi and making the stream drop?

The IWTV replay will probably be great fun, but the livestream was like watching a highlight package, only live with buffering.

I assure you I wasn't on my phone all show, I was having too much fun.

  4. So The Daikaiju Pro show was great, it totally blew my expectations out of the water.  Every match was fun, it felt like everyone showed up to show out.  The Nakajima/Veny match was great, Shoko looked shocked at how much the crowd was into her.

Definitely going back for the next show.  I missed live wrestling.

  5. I'm actually pretty excited to attend my first live wrestling show since the Pandemic.  I've had the worse luck for getting seats for AEW shows and New Japan seems to hate having US shows less then 7 hours away from me.  But there's a new group called DaiKaiju Pro doing a show in Worchester next month and I've got front row seats to it.

  6. So I haven't messed around too much with character creation yet, but when I saw the goofy bear costume I had to make "The Grizzly" Bear (from Chicago as my GF insisted). I gave him a bear hug for a special and the Salt of the Earth  (The Arm-Bear) as a finish.  10/10 flawless game.

  7. I feel like the movie really wanted to put the viewer in Hongo's shoes.  Starting in-media-res, everyone else working with far more knowledge then Hongo and being distant to him.  Hongo was very meant to be a pawn for everyone, but his struggle with his newfound power and questioning his resolve brings out the humanity in everyone around him.  One of my co-workers said it best "it's like Hongo was a color character in a black and white world and slowly the color spread from him".

I'm curious to see if a second viewing will unlock anything more from it.

  8. I really enjoyed Shin Kamen Rider. Its a lot like Shin Ultraman where it packs in a TV seasons worth of plot into a 2 hour movie, but I felt like it did a better job of it. There is some absolutely beautiful cinematography on display at times and the movie keeps the original shows love of Dutch angles and color gels intact.  Turns out there's a closer showing on Monday, so I'm going back to see it again.

  9. So hyped for Shin Kamen Rider tonight.  The nearest place to me that had tickets was 2 hours away, but I enjoyed the hell out of Shin Godzilla and Shin Ultraman, so I might as well finish off the trilogy in the theater.

For other Toku stuff, I'm falling behind on KingOhger (episode 6), but I love the chaos energy its bringing.  Also getting back on Kamen Rider as well by watching Saber. At some point I'll get up to date with UItraman too.

  10. I was an 18 year old kid in college who watched wrestling on TV one night and got hooked all over again.  I rushed to the internet and found a sarcastic dude doing reviews (probably Scott Keith) and I remember him mocking something I'd enjoyed watching with a line like "This is something the DVDVR would like" and it immediately made me search for that term.  That was the key to a neon-drenched world of wrestling I had never heard of, with reviews from people that seemed to be endless founts of knowledge.  I lurked the forums for years and consumed every road report, every DVDVR and ever 500 list; pouring whatever spare change I had into tapes off the old Lynch Lists. Eventually I worked up the nerve to post and well now you're stuck with me.

One of my biggest dreams was to one day have content posted in the DVDVR, that was the real "You've made it" thing to me as a fan.  But the truth is, as others have said,  a like from Dean (or any of the other DVDVR writers) made you feel like you had made it.  That someone who loved the whole of wrestling gave you the nod.  To this day I do presentations at conventions on all my various  hobbies and when I get on the mic I remind everyone that there's so much to enjoy and to remember that we all enjoy it together.  Reflecting on that these past few days I think that is Dean's lasting influence on me.

As the saying goes, the DVDVR was "X Fists in the Face of Wrestling" and judging by the reactions on twitter, reddit and here its All of Our Fists in the Face of Wrestling.  I hope that brings a smile to Dean.

  11. Nothing but positive energy to Dean and his family.

This place has been my home for Wrestling and every other dorky hobby for damn near 20 years now.  This place has always been a buffet of different types of/opinions on wrestling and everything else under the sun and I feel like Dean's positivity was what set the table.

  12. Hey I'm wondering if anyone remembers an old windows game that EA made that was a stats based football management sim?  It was nothing but text and spreadsheets but man I remember loving just blazing through seasons in a day in the quest for greatness.

Do they still make games like that?  Like I know there's a baseball game but I'm more of a Football/US Football/Basketball guy.

  13. Yeah I think everyone in the game making process deserves more then they're getting, especially with the crunch and toxic environments Dev's have to deal with while their bosses rake it in.

And I definitely agree that Jennifer Hale got unfairly dragged into this.  She merely took a job that was available, but there are people on the internet that would have you believe she was part of some conspiracy to rob people of their jobs.

  14. With all the talk about the Bayonetta 3 and pay I wanted to do a little digging to figure out what was the industry standard. So I pulled up the SAG/AFTRA rate sheet for Interactive Media (which video games seem to fall under) and the union standard is $956.75/ 4 hour day for one performer doing up to 3 voices and $1914.25 for a 6 hour day with an actor doing 6-10 voices.  I'm assuming (and if anyone can edify me on this I'd love that because I'm really trying to understand the situation) that "Voices" refers to different versions of a characters voice (like excited or angry, since they would put different stresses on the vocal chords). So it would be likely that Ms. Taylor was doing the latter.  Then there's additional compensation for multiple sessions, which for the 3-4 that were offered would be an extra $375-$550 and it should be noted nowhere on the rate sheet are residuals mentioned, while on other paysheets they are broken down.  So by bog-standard SAG/AFTRA standards (as near as I can tell) a "fair" wage is $6117.75 - $8207 dollars with no residuals.

That feels like a lot of money, but that's sort of the distraction isn't it?  Platinum Games sold approximately 1.284 million copies of the game on the Switch and WiiU and knowing how Nintendo is loathe to cut prices some quick math comes to a (49.99 X 1.284 million)= 61.187 million dollars Gross; which makes her salary seem downright insignificant. Plus they can release the game for other platforms or remaster it and get more money without cutting the voice actors in on it.

I guess at what I'm rambling at here is that when you look at the numbers she is underpaid in relation to her importance in selling the character of Bayonetta and thus the game.  But the way she handled it buries the lead entirely and will make it harder for other voice actors to get fair compensation.  Which I think we all kind of knew that, but putting numbers down helps me see it clearer.

    Sorry for the ramblings.

  15. The fact that this is made by the people who made the Friday the 13th Asymmetrical Horror game just feels really cynical.  Like instead of making another game that's going to take a L to Dead By Daylight, why not reinvest the devtime and resources into making F13 better? There's been enough games that have basically 2.0ed themselves and gotten out to the right streamers that it would be a more feasible approach then trying again with an even lesser known (to the masses) IP then your other game.
