  1. I finished watching last night and I had this reflection. The four pillars of AEW were a re huge part of 2023 as we went into spring; a year later 2 of them are off TV all together, one just got suspended, and the last one (Darby) is coming off a huge program. And it does not matter. But when Max returns - and he will, it will be good. But AEW re-invents itself pretty well.
  2. AEW is this weird mashup of never ending RAW/Nitro segments and talk fests AND All-Japan killer matches with real finished and actual storylines. I skip the segments to see the matches.
  3. I was super skeptical as well but last night won me over. It's a borrowed concept but it creates a White-Swerve match that otherwise makes little sense. And it's a pure match, no interference. The 3 titles - again borrowed. But it adds a stake. I was initially why another title - but it creates a layer of intrigue.
  4. Convinced that the orginal plan was for White to get the title way back when. But the Max face turn with the Cole story line was so strong, and it was changed. With Ospreay now, and White, plus the other pillars - suspect the title comes off Max in December but the storyline is still got gas.
  5. Had the benefit of watching on DVR after reading about the match. It was very clear when they got in the ring as the bell rung that Mox was not ok. The first in ring exchange was so sloppy. Someone in the back needed to come down to get the match stopped. Mox is not going to stop it himself; and Fenix is in the moment.
  6. Saw an article liking Punk to Bruiser Brody - Brody was pretty famous for sticking up promoters at the worse moments. Brody frankly worked himself into a corner at the end, his lack of reliability plus the territory system drying up lead to a real lack of availability. Punk may have done the same. Yes there is a run in WWE maybe for him. There ways to lead organizations organically and ways to be an a$$hole. Punk's need for self righteousness is his own down fall. But never say never - Tony Schiavone was all the way out and is now all the way back in.
  7. Come September Collision will be live against multiple NCAA football games, and then NCAA Basketball games.
  8. For the first time last night I noticed Collision has a decidedly different feel to it. More focused. Smaller roster feel, almost old school territory.
  9. Tanahashi looks to be pretty used up, unfortunately. Man, I want Nakamura to be in these so bad. I know Toni and Juice being on the same cards consistently had to be great for both.
  10. Fun card - the Briscoes match was just fun. End of story. Loved, and I mean loved the main. What a hell of a match.
  11. It was obvious that she and Statlander had good chemistry. Statlander is really smooth in the ring for the most part.
  12. Daddy Magic never fails to make me chuckle.
  13. Got say the MJF/Cole segment made me want to see them. As much as MJF plays into tropes, Cole firing right back at him was good. Now MJF using the whole Lee manager role was some serious insider stuff; but it fit well into the whole promo.
  14. I have read all about Adam Cole, the love and the hate. Admittedly did not watch much of his NXT stuff. His ring work to me is very good - the Panama finisher is interesting but not that believable. Mic work is very good, and great entrance. Seems like a genuinely good person. But I come back to old JR saying - it's a body business. Seriously he just looks like a teenage boy to me. His lack (complete lack) of muscular build is really noticeable. Not saying he needs to hit the 'riods but he looks more like a long distance runner than a wrestler. The Mulkeys back in JCP - they were these skinny, pale white kids. And they just got killed. Which was what you expected Cole looks more like a Mulkey than a modern-day Michaels.
  15. I have really enjoyed an actual live match (semi-main in some ways) kicking off the night. Brand split might be ok - there are so many good wrestlers (Hobbs? ) who just disappear. 2 more hours with good storylines will help. BUT Saturday night is now such a crowded live space (college football in the fall, college basketball, then pro basketball on ABC). Heck Fox has baseball in the summer. AEW - Rampage has become a DVR event for me; and Collision will too likely come fall.

  17. Anna moving from Dark Order to JAS as a heel to me did not help her. Both her and Tay are stuck in second-tier or in even third-tier spots. With only one female match a night on the program, and a good size roster not sure where they can go. I mean Jade as the secondary champ is not on Dynamite much at all. The lack of an NXT environment for the AEW woman who are not vets is the issue.
  18. A good night of wrestling. the main was great and it was not a typical Omega match. Callis - not sure where it goes. It does reflect how much we need Regal here. Surprisingly, the vignettes on the 4 pillars was my favorite Well done - and just the right length. I think Jack Perry got the best break out. I enjoyed how Sting and Christian both gave their "boys" the right rub, even with Christian staying in heel mode. Thought Anna and Julia worked well. Thought it was my imagination but both Annak and Tay are relatively much more filled out than they were 2 years ago.
  19. The main, and the whole thing while a bit of formula was well done. Jungle Boy to me got the most out of the match, with Sammy really putting on his working boots. I doubt they move the belt off MJF until London but I have enjoyed the program. Briscoe Farm stuff has been great - dang we came close to Jarrett singing. What I enjoyed the most was in-ring action with real finishes, and just enough vignettes (House of Black was well done too) to move the story along. I was watching the Starks match and realized hey here is a wrestling show with wrestling.
  20. Of the 4 pillars, I keep asking who is the Bobby Eaton/Brad Armstrong of the 4 pillars - great hand in the ring, great in the locker room, but not just great of a mouthpiece. I have no clue how Jack Perry is perceived behind the scenes. In so many ways, Jack is the anti-Sammy. The challenge is of the 4, MJF is the jacked one - I keep hearing JR "It's a body business"; which is the same problem with Adam Cole. Working underneath of a small babyface or as a heel works for a while. But having monsters getting beat over and over by a guy who might weigh 170 is not a formula that work every time.
  21. Jay White - Can we do a best of 7 with he and Omega say starting next week? Or he and Danielson ? Claudio - Jay White?
  22. If at the end of the day, if 1 or more of the Pillars cannot deliver as a stand-alone person - then TK can point at this moment. As a boss, giving someone a chance when they appear ready is a risk/reward. It may mean one or more needs more seasoning. But you have to take the risk. Sammy is wild - I think he has so much charisma. And in real life is a babyface all day. And he is willing to do crazy stuff no question. But he is classic case of needing to slow down at times. I think he could carry the title though. Jungle Boy - has everything to be a star but the mic work. You can see his brain almost grinding to close on the mic. I hope he is getting some great coaching in the back. I don't have the history. What was Danielson like on the mic early on? So many guys in the back to pull on, but he could really use the NXT Dusty promo school. Allin - Weirdly his TNT run was exactly what he should be - nothing more or less. More of him on the mic is not better. His size and his daredevil style though maybe a shorter run. Again his TNT runs have been of my favorite AEW bookings.
  23. I think the concept of taking the 4 pillars and pointing them front and center with no additional people (no Jericho, No Sting, etc. ) is actually interesting. Can these folks stand and deliver, on the mic and in the ring, with no help? Every superstar at some point ran point on a program. Now was last night great - nope. But I give credit for TK for at least giving these guys the chance. A cadre of 4 wrestlers in their mid to late 20s on top you help make into top stars has the potential to establish AEW for the immediate future. Can each deliver? Time will tell - but let's give this some room to breathe. AEW to date has shown a decent long-term booking plan. Now did I like the booking here - no. Wardlow-AA - could be simply perfect.
  24. I turned into Raw after Mania and it was the same old thing. I actually enjoyed the storylines heading into Mania this year. The top matches all had good stories.
