  1. Need a screenshot of Roddy with the giraffe Where was Edge while Jericho and Omega were getting the shit kicked out of them for 10 minutes? They had an idea for a cute backstage segment and didn't make the connection that he should probably save those guys after that? Same old Wardlow. I never liked the power bomb spam, it was disappointing to have him come back after months off TV with the same act. Poor Griff Nice to see Kip Sabian. I assume he's on Dynamite from time to time but it would be cool to see him more often on the main shows. Always found him entertaining and thought he'd improved in the ring What moves actually put Fenix down for a 3 count? He doesn't get pinned often, I'm genuinely curious. Kicking out of that top rope cutter was something I loved the sequence of Nick kicking the post, Fenix sweeping his legs and Nick spiking right on his head on the apron Tony's reaction to Don's last supper painting was hilarious. Guess he missed it at the PPV. "I'VE GOT A ROCK HARD TAINT!" - Juice Jay White calls the fans poors: "AND WE MEAN IT! WE HATE YOU!" - Juice again
  2. Law Murray gets paid to write about the NBA The Failing New York Times bought The Failing The Athletic for this Fuck
  3. I feel bad that I'm too stoned to post more. this was a really good show and everyone worked hard. they deserve better than this shitty post. I liked all of the matches. I'm gonna drink a beer and smoke some more pot. AEW Rules the motherfucker world. RIP Dean. Bye for now.
  4. "ADAM! ADAM! ADAM!' "ADAM! I CAN'T SEE YOU!" as the shocking neck impingement cuts off his optic nerve
  5. is a thread on this board where stoners go? this definitely isn't it
  6. Gunns and Juice weren't giving the luchadores anything in that match. Drago got the hot tag, cut off and ate up immediately. Looked like he got dropped on his head too. It felt like they went out with the mentality of "we're stars on the rise and this is our show" and weren't going to give their opponents shit. Felt very WCW. Not opposed to BCG eating people up but I'd like to see talented luchadores with some name value get a chance to shine and not get the Nitro jobber treatment. Roderick Strong in the past week has become one of my favorite characters in AEW. The pre and post match neckbrace while he's in there looking like a vicious killer is choice pro-wrestling, and now they've added glasses to his picture in the graphics! The whiny promos.....I can't stand Cole and MJF....this guy is my new hero!!! For real though, I felt Roddy was doing underrated comedy in backstage stuff when he was in Undisputed Era. I stopped watching NXT long before the Diamond Mine stuff but Bryan & Vinny thought he was really good in his role there and I tend to trust them on stuff like that. Roderick Strong being entertaining beyond being a great wrestler isn't as out of nowhere as some people are making it out to be
  7. So....Punk at the All Out 22 presser, "you got a problem with that come find me". The Bucks have a problem with that, come find him....Punk swings first Reporting around the Perry thing is dodgy but it sounds like Punk initiated the confrontation and the physicality Starting to see a pattern here. It sounds like Punk thinks he's really fucking tough after that MMA career of his. In the old days someone would have taken him down a peg or two by now. I find it hard to believe Phil is the toughest man in AEW, someone needs to pull his punk card Also, WAR TEAM PERRY! I don't see enough people standing up for him. Good on him telling Punk to fuck off. Talking some inside shit to the camera is nothing Punk hasn't done a thousand times, and co-sign everyone who remembers when Punk was scratching and clawing to get over like Jack is. Mr. Professional (HA) can dish it can't take it, wants to fight everyone. Legendarily thin skin. And this wasn't Goldberg unplanned punching out a fucking door window in the 90s, a slam spot on a modern car's windshield is relatively safe. Really not a big deal IMO, but it speaks more to the leadership structure and the way Punk has been empowered but that's a whole other conversation and I'm here to shit on Punk I turned on Phil watching the All Out scrum live in real time before the fight even went down. Used to be a big fan. Nothing since his return has disabused me of the notion that he's a miserable prick. So sick of this shit. It's not even fun saying Itoadaso
  8. Terry was easily in my top 5 and on any given day if you asked me who my favorite wrestler of all-time was there was a good chance I'd say Terry Funk. I'm still processing this and it hasn't really sunk in yet. RIP Funker
  9. Mega Chav Ospreay rules. He really dialed it up last night. That was a fire promo once he got going, to the point I thought Jericho would have a tough time following it. Already the match I was looking forward to the most and that segment got me hyped. Loved the chaotic open. Juice KO'ing Knox popped me, did not see that coming. Didn't really like the Fenix injury angle. Hate when they use the 'Owen voice' for worked injuries. Thought Eddie kinda saved it backstage with Renee. I'll wait and see how they follow up the Fox angle, especially in regards to Nick Wayne. I believe he just signed a new contract so hopefully they have a plan. I thought they'd replace Fox with Cage, just the other one, not the CLB. They can't seem to get out of their own way with Swerve's booking. I thought he was on his way to being a top guy a year ago but he's never built consistent momentum with all the stop-start booking and disappearing for weeks at a time. He still feels right on the cusp if they'd get behind him 100% and I like the pairing with Prince Nana Appreciated them giving Aussie Open a spotlight win and The Hardys for being so unselfish. Thought they cut a good promo after the match too. I was expecting Ospreay to get involved at the end, bringing out Jericho, which brings out Takeshita, which brings out The Elite, which brings out BCG etc. etc. and the show ending with a chaotic brawl like it started. Instead we got ANOTHER MJF-Cole tease. I'm over it already.
  10. Tony said there's some planned changes. I could see Fox getting taken out and replaced with Cage That's a lot of stuff for two hours. If the advertised stuff is literally all they focus on that's more than enough for two hours but I'm sure it won't be. Hope Mox/Fenix and Elite/BCG get time and Ospreay gets to talk
  11. The first one (Elite vs. Inner Circle) during the pandemic was at the Jaguars' completely empty stadium and it was shot and edited together like a cinematic match. The second one (Inner Circle vs. Pinnacle) was a mix of pre-tape at the stadium (Swagger and Wardlow in a bar was memorable, Jericho and MJF paired off all over the guts of the stadium) that made it's way next door to Daly's Place in front of the crowd for the finish
  12. Just came to me, but I wouldn't doubt that people do
  13. Yeah. And add the Bucks and Gunns to Kenny's match, make it a 10 man. My hope is that Cash alerted them of the situation when it happened and they've been ahead of it when booking FTR. Hasn't WWE fired people for not disclosing shit like this to them? I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt not because I like him but because I always do in situations like this and he doesn't have a known history of mischief. Maybe he flashed his piece on the lanes, it happens
  14. Didn't see anyone mention Kenny straight up saying "Uncle Don" gave him steroids as a high school athlete and JR's "wtf" look in response...... How did the TCM match compare to the WWE sponsorship matches? Because this sucked Jarrett isn't even good at these fucking matches, which is ya know, maybe a sign to stop putting him in these spots. The Concession Stand Brawl with Mark Briscoe sucked too, and there was a couple other ones IIRC....Sting and Darby? Straight out of TNA with this shit
  15. I feel pretty stupid for not seeing Stadium Stampede coming but OF COURSE you have to do that match in Wembley F'n Stadium. Duh. I like the idea of Proud & Powerful being in there if Santana is ready. There's history there with Best Friends (first Parking Lot brawl), Lucha Bros and Kingston....makes too much sense not to happen now that I'm thinking about it. Sixth man should be ZSJ because he needs to be on the card and he's got the "history" with Danielson (mutual respect/technical award winning rivals, the match that was supposed to happen at FD1 and likely Wembley). If you've been following Zack in Japan he's way more than just a technical wizard at this point, he can totally hang in a match like this
  16. I'm sincerely gonna miss ol Dolphman. This place can definitely get echo chambery for sure, but I suppose you gotta take out the trash from time to time I secretly suspected he might be Lasto for a minute there, especially with some of his AEW takes vis-a-vis Tony, but I think he was just a listener aping what he thought would rile people up On a related note, I miss the political board. I also miss Polish Bob Stupak and some of the other old heads, but that's another conversation
  17. I mentioned Jon Hamm in the other thread amidst the Punk mishigas and a Confess, Fletch discussion breaks out in this one! At least one good thing has come from all this... Thanks, Phil
  18. This thread was a good read. People really do get fired up over Punk, both ways. I feel like Mr. Blonde walking in on Mr. White and Mr. Pink with a soda in my hand. Speaking of movies. I agree that Collision is the best wrestling show on TV (with the caveat that I don't watch RAW/SD/NXT) but that doesn't mean I have to watch it every week, or ever. There's lots of movies in the theater at any given time, doesn't mean I have to go see them when I can just stay home and watch Repo Man for the thousandth time. Top Gun: Maverick may have been the best, most popular movie in the theaters for a minute but that didn't mean I felt compelled to go see it. I actually have a "No Tom Cruise" rule, which conflicts with my "Yes Jon Hamm" rule. I don't have a "No CM Punk" rule and he's far, far from Tom Cruise level of personal dislike, but I'm not really interested in seeing CM Punk in a starring role these days. Completely personal preference and inarguable from my perspective, but it really is fun to see how much discord and chaos one man can cause.....
  19. Well put. I used to be a huge Punk fan but I never wanted a promotion booked around him like he's Lawler in Memphis or Dusty at his worst. Probably why I'm already losing interest in the CM Punk Show. Also doesn't help that it's the island of misfit toys with a bunch of guys who can be difficult, so Miro is siloed here, Black is over there etc. Punk is like a band you used to really dig, and they're still doing their thing, but it's not quite the same and it's not for you anymore. Still some occasional bangers you'll check out via the internet, but you're not buying albums and going to concerts. That's a reference he'll understand. I also fully expect this to blow up in Tony's face, again. Why? There's like endless combinations of shit that could go wrong here, not the least of which is Phil just taking his ball and going home. Not rooting for it of course, I want a GD Kenny v. Punk match at some point....
  20. Just read this entire thread, a lot to cover here.... - with summer in full swing I haven't been able to keep up with AEW as much as I'd like and it's getting harder to follow with so many hours of TV, but it definitely doesn't feel like a promotion firing on all cylinders heading into what is surely it's biggest show ever. they kind of reset a lot of stuff recently, so yeah, the build is feeling very lackluster IMO - I'm not really that into the Cole/MJF stuff tbh, it already jumped the shark with me, so I'm underwhelmed by that as the main event. However it's been super over so it doesn't really matter what I think - Bucks/FTR III was a no brainer. Not much build to it yet but the first two matches were great. FTR has been on a roll lately and it'll be good to see the Bucks back in straight tag action. - I wasn't sure how I'd feel about Punk until he was actually back. Turns out I'm not digging him that much. I've been checking out Collision for BCG mostly and straight up skipping thru some of Punk's matches. Doesn't help that he's been working Starks who I'm also not that into beyond the entrance. So Punk and Joe almost 20 years later doesn't really do anything for me, especially when they just gave it away on TV. I also think the booking of Punk since his return has been kinda shitty which has contributed to my being lukewarm. First night in he's got a bag and says he's the real champ until someone beats him, then he almost immediately loses (twice? thrice?) and only after that does he finally bring the belt out and start making a big deal about it? Also trying to force being a babyface..... - Ospreay and Omega are personal favorites but I don't want to see Pt. III so soon after the Forbidden Door match and neither guy should lose to the other right now so zero issues there. Jericho is one of my all-time faves and I like that they're getting him away from JAS. The Callis thing is feeling like a misdirection now and Callis cornered Ospreay at Forbidden Door so they can do an angle to get there without Will having to disband United Empire or anything like that. It looked a bit weird on paper at first but I will absolutely enjoy the hell out of a Jericho vs. Ospreay match in front of that crowd. I'm looking forward to this more than anything else rumoured and I bet it steals the show reaction wise - I prefer the Omega/Hangman/Ibushi vs. Takeshita/BCG tag to the singles tbh. BCG has been on fire, this is a great spot for them. The Omega-Takeshita singles needs more build and this can lead into that match at All Out. Plus Omega and Jay White should be a big program at some point and you can start planting seeds for that here - BCC vs. Orange/Kingston/? (Shibata perhaps) also works for me in the interest of getting more people on the card and giving more buildup to the Mox-OC singles match. - House of Black vs. Andrade/Rush/? should be happening soon but 3 6-man tags on one show is a bit much so probably All Out for that - I'd like everyone to get on this show so I'm hoping we get a Tony Khan special and there's a 40 man Rumble with 20 second intervals or something wacky like that. I don't really want a 5+ hour show, but there's so much talent on the roster that deserves a spot.... Don't really feel like typing much more because while I'm pretty underwhelmed as of now there's still a few weeks to heat this up for the TV/PPV audience. In general I agree with Niners Fan that AEW should be going all out to make All In as big as possible and it doesn't feel that way yet. I feel confident in saying they will never have a crowd this big again and they really should be trying to make this show as special as possible. I think as a result of the tickets sold they should be going even harder, not the "we already sold all these tickets without a card, why give anything too special away" mindset, but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and see how I feel week of. Losing Danielson, Hayter and Pac definitely hurt
  21. I want to be clear on where I stand on MJF/Cole: I like the story in the general. MJF looked up to Cole, wanted to see the real Adam Cole show up, earned his respect, now they're bros. It works. I like the pairing and it's over. It's been the best use of Cole so far in AEW. I also agree with everyone that there's a lot more mileage here and they should squeeze it for all it's worth, definitely too early for MJF to show his true colors. Tony's been pretty good about listening to crowds with stuff like this My problem is it already veering way too far into goofy sports entertainment with your relatively new World Champ in a promotion where the comedy is mostly kept to the midcard (which I'm totally fine with btw, I love Best Friends, etc. etc.). Some people can't even tolerate that much comedy, I prefer the ECW style variety show because I enjoy all types of wrestling when done well. I remember Omega's run where there was some comedy with Callis and Brandon/Nakazawa and some people hated that, but to me it was always presented as Omega the serious champion surrounded by a traveling circus and Omega's actual comedy was tongue in cheek (and underrated IMO) Now that I think of it it's more of a World Champion perception thing, and my problem with it actually started during the MJF/Cole vs. Daddy Magic/Butcher tag where MJF spent the entire match playing FiP against two lower midcarders. Two guys I like, but total geeks in the parlance of our times. The World Champ should be beating those two 1 on 2 not getting beat on through a fucking commercial break And hell, I know the song and dance man has always been part of MJF's routine, but there's a real fine line with wrestling comedy. Less is more, and as is often the case like with his heel schtick at times MJF goes way over the top But hey, the Rock did a ton of overly goofy comedy as World Champ and he spent entire matches selling before hitting a comeback........honestly this shit just feels like more for MJF's WWE and/or Hollywood audition tape on Tony Khan's dime tldr: don't want to see WWE/TNA sports entertainment in AEW, and if they have to do it do it with the Hardy crew, Jarrett crew etc. etc. so I can not care about it when it inevitably sucks
  22. Loved Best Friends repeating "Nick Wayne" several times towards the end of the promo, hilariously subversive way to put him over and get his name stuck in people's heads... I hadn't put any thought into what the order of entry would be in B&G. Crowd went nuts for Kenny leading off in a "holy shit we get to see Kenny for an hour!!!" kind of way. Given what he's put himself through lately I wasn't expecting that and was instantly worried about him dying for our entertainment The second Mox's music hit you could feel the mood change. I love how he immediately established dominance of the first ring and specifically the corner by the cage door with the minefield of broken glass. No psychology my ass. Loved Claudio stealing one of the Bucks' ring jackets to protect himself from the glass Crowd seemed to turn on the match a bit when Pac walked out because it telegraphed the finish. Felt like a pro BCC crowd as the match went on. I don't know what people were expecting. It was an AEW party match. Wasn't perfect but I enjoyed the hell out of it for what it was. Can't believe some of the same people complaining about that match are defending the WORLD CHAMP doing goofy comedy and a fucking dance off like it's Russo era WWF but to each their own...
  23. I was surprised they had Tanahashi wrestle 24 hours before the match with MJF. He knows his body but it doesn't seem advisable. Him and Kingston both in the G1 is asking for trouble. I think the match with MJF will be good despite his limitations. It's the opener and the crowd should be electric, Tana still connects and is a great seller and most of the match should be MJF on offense. Loved Christian's line, "I left last week's show in a bad mood for a lot of reasons...". Pretty inside. If you don't know, Meltzer in the Observer quoted an anonymous wrestler who said that in regards to the mood backstage with Punk back... Andrade's over the post moonsault was insane. I really like both these guys but this match didn't fully click. Feels like they're building up to LFI vs. HoB when Rush is back. the matches should be good but the face/heel stuff is fubar Kelly absolutely butchered Takeshita's name at one point. He called Matthews Murphy last week too. Overall I find him inoffensive. Don't love or hate him like some do and it's good for Collision to have a different voice. Nigel is pretty good. dug the main event, think I liked it better than last weeks. Everyone was on point, felt like Punk did more than last week, Juicy was great, Cash has looked great lately and almost killed himself old school D-Bry fashion on that dive through the ropes. very pleasantly surprised to see White pick up the win I love long multi-person tags where everybody gets time to shine. Some of my favorite eras of WWE TV for match quality were when Evolution was in 6 and 8 man tags on a regular basis against various babyfaces, and 2013/2014 with the Shield, Danielson, Kane, Orton etc. in great multi-man tags carrying tv for months. The weeks long slow burn of the Gunns joining Bullet Club seems to have paid off here, looks like they're official. Perfect fit. Maybe a bit of an homage to the New Age Outlaws and DX where they were associated on tv for a bit before officially joining? I dig the Gunns, their theme has long been one of my favorites and their current entrance with the rotating camera and Austin doing the finger guns with the mist is dope. They've got the right energy for this incarnation of Bullet Club Crowd was great, heat for Punk was great, Forbidden Door looks great, WAR AEW
