  1. Asuka (KANA) - Local girl makes good Lulu Pencil - My favourite current character in all of pro wrestling Baker & Rosa - That was one hell of a match Giulia - After Lulu Pencil, the wrestler I'd most like to see in AEW Mizunami - AEW has a real knack for taking wrestlers from "off my radar" and moving them straight into "can't wait to see them again." This is the latest example of that. Tay Conti - Just keeps getting better Jaguar and Kyoko - Still kicking all kinds of ass for DIANA Takumi Iroha - Kind of surprised she didn't make your list @DEAN . Haven't heard much out of Marvelous or DIANA lately, though.
  2. That's a good point about Mr Brodie Lee, I think that's (at least subconsciously) part of why I prefer the grey border as well. I also like that it's "old school" and shows that I've been a fan since way back in the very beginning (2019). It's hard to see in these pictures but my hoodie (like yours) and also my hat and my t-shirt are all in the original colours.
  3. Also, accidental double posts from pressing "quote" instead of "edit" can give a pretty damned good clue w/r/t who is really just a f'ing dumbass. Since I'm posting anyway: Seriously, anyone want to trade? I can't be the only person here who is a big enough nerd to have downloaded that. Also, here I am modeling the "forbidden door" collection at work: Edit: Apologies to @Hayabusa for gumming up your crappy countryside internet connection with so many pics. Edit: Right! Spoiler boxes. Hat tip to @Elsalvajeloco
  4. I also agree with @Technico Support that the language people use to frame their arguments can give a pretty damned good clue w/r/t who is really just a garbage person. In addition to his excellent examples, I'd add "triggered" "safe space" "rent free" "You are amusingly passive aggressive. Very 'beta' personality, I think." and "Maybe Free Will and Self-Expression Through Creativity are Good Things." If the continued existence of hateful bullshit from pro wrestling's often-shameful past is hurting good people, and obviously it is, then let it all die a painful death. If some garbage people lose their shit along the way, so much the better. And with all due respect, if you have a "throwing the baby out with the bathwater" or "we need to keep it around to teach people what not to do" or "their feeling don't outweigh my right to watch whatever I want" or "who watches the watchmen?" or "slippery slope" or any other type of argument to make about that, you can take your opinion, shine it up real nice, turn that sumbitch sideways and stick it straight up your candy ass. If anyone wants something to enjoy in place of hateful racist homophobic misogynistic misty faded memories from our favourite thing's past, may I suggest trying the NJPW Collection game that they are always advertising during their streams? Its a complete f'ing waste of time. All you can do is collect, organize, and trade cards, and every time you "draft" new cards its all doubles of the one star Yoshi-Hashi card you already have. I'm loving it. Mostly, i am enjoying aggressively trading for cards of wrestlers i actually like. If anybody else is playing, I'll trade you all my Taichi for all your MiSu, even if we disagree politically.
  5. If only there were other pro wrestling promotions we could follow and support and spend money on. Promotions not run by hateful assholes. Maybe some day...
  6. Gosh dang that was a fun two hours of pro wrestling. I enjoyed pretty much every moment of that. I will say, however, that it was strange to see a basic simple transition move like a Canadian Destroyer (Code Red) be the finisher in a title match!
  7. The Haters Guide to Enjoying AEW Dynamite (24th March 2021) – Trios Match: FTR & Shawn Spears (w/ Tully Blanchard) Vs. Varsity Blonds & Dante Martin of Top Flight This is a total layup. A gimme. Whatever happens in the match, complain about Shawn Spears being involved. – Nyla Rose (w/ Vickie Guerrero) Vs. Tay Conti If Nyla wins, complain that she should have put over Conti because Conti needs the win more than Nyla does. If Conti wins, complain that they aren't booking Nyla like a proper monster. – Trios Match: AEW World Tag Team Champions The Young Bucks & Brandon Cutler Vs. The Lucha Brothers & Laredo Kid Man, the Lucha Brothers are just treading water. They need to use them better. The EVPs need to stop putting themselves over. Or: How are AEW ever going to be the #1 promotion in the world if they are afraid to book their top guys like ture (super)stars? Also complain about Cutler being involved, obviously. And also that they are just bringing in Laredo Kid and expecting us to all know who he is when obviously no-one has ever heard of the guy before now. – TNT Championship Match: Darby Allin (c) Vs. John Silver (w/ Dark Order) I suppose you could try and complain that they have killed John Silver's heat and we are all going to lose interest in him now that he has been shown to be a hopeless loser? Nah. Probably better off pretending that you enjoyed this one. Too many cool kids like both of these guys right now. Oh! Oh! Does John Silver's record justify a title match? Is the open challenge unfair to wrestlers with better records? You could maybe have a go at that! And that could lead nicely into: – AEW World Championship Eliminator: Kenny Omega (w/ Don Callis) Vs. Matt Sydal (w/ Mike Sydal) What the hell man?! Wins and losses are supposed to mean something in AEW! Why and how is Matt Sydal getting a shot at earning a title match? You should be mad about this already. Absolutely everybody on these boards loves Kenny Omega unreservedly so there is nothing to complain about there, obviously. ?
  8. I think I'm probably enjoying these more than I should. Can't stop laughing: I don't really think the new intro adds anything, but this one cracked me up, too:
  9. Hey, @paintedbynumbers, seriously, thanks for the info. It's interesting (to me, anyway) to read about insider-y stuff like that. I find it cool to hear that working in AEW has made Baker a better person, in your opinion. I can believe that.It seems like that kind of a place, that would help people bring out the best in themselves. And I'm all for AEW wrestlers working the indies. Particularly the younger, less-experienced wrestlers. The only way to really get better at working in front of crowds is to work in front of crowds.
  10. I almost feel like I have some kind of curse or very specific Murphy's Law going on. Just after I got my AEW hoodie, they laid The Wet Fart Heard Around the World. Then, just after this new t-shirt arrived, NJPW puled off that ridiculous post-match angle... AEW bounced back with Baker vs Thunder. Let's hope NJPW can bounce back with something awesome, too!
  11. I was actually thinking about something similar the other day: Beach Blast 1992 Dark match: The Junkyard Dog, Tom Zenk and Big Josh vs Tracy Smothers, Richard Morton and Diamond Dallas Page Scotty Flamingo vs Brian Pillman (c) for the WCW Light Heavyweight Championship Ron Simmons vs Terry Taylor Greg Valentine vs Marcus Bagwell Sting vs Cactus Jack in a Falls Count Anywhere match Ricky Steamboat vs Rick Rude [4-3] in an Iron Man Challenge (30:00) Dustin Rhodes, Barry Windham and Nikita Koloff vs The Dangerous Alliance (Arn Anderson, Steve Austin and Bobby Eaton) (w/ Paul E. Dangerously and Madusa) The Steiner Brothers (Rick & Scott Steiner) vs. The Miracle Violence Connection (Terry Gordy & Steve Williams) for the WCW World Tag Team Championship Probably perceived as kind of a nothing card back in '92, not too hyped up, no-one ordering it with any kind of huge expectations... No Flair, no Hogan... probably, at the time, seemed pretty low on star power for a major pro wrestling show. But, man, look at that line-up! Other than the Z-Man, Doink, and Buff it's pretty much all first ballot hall of fame pro wrestlers up and down the card. And in terms of guys on the mid-card who would eventually hit it big? How about Foley, Austin, DDP, and Raven? And who would have thought at the time that two of those mid-card matches (The Falls Count Anywhere nd the Iron Man) would end up as all-time greats that people still watch and talk about today? Has to be one of the most overachieving cards of the '90s, at the very least.
  12. Hurrah! Another Year, Surely This One Will Be Better Than the Last; The Inexorable March of Progress Will Lead Us All to Happiness!
  13. I also tend to give bonus points for wrestling move names that could double as nicknames for one's penis. For example: Jackhammer Weapon X K-Driller Fire Thunder Driver Tiger Driver Pumping Bomber Russian Sickle Swinging Neck Breaker Sudanese Meat Cleaver Lockjaw Queen Slayer Spear Arabian Face Buster Doomsday Device Small Package and I think here, again, The Burning Hammer has a real shot at taking the cake.
  14. Axe Bomber > Crooked Arm Lariat which leads to: Lariat (because Stan Hansen) > Russian Sickle > Swinging Clothesline > Clothesline from Hell (because what's so "from Hell" about it?) Camel Clutch = la de a cabello > Steiner Recliner > The Colossal Clutch > The Accolade STF >>>> STFU Discus Punch > Spinning Punch > Tornado Punch And just so Japanese names don't always win here: I honestly think Spinning Back Fist > Uraken
  15. ? To me, Wardlow = Luger, and I mean that as a compliment to both men. I feel that the new stable still really needs a Barry Windham: A true workhorse who can take some losses and still be be a credible US Heavyweight-type champion and world title challenger. Not sure who I'd nominate for that role. I might have said Adam Page a year ago, but he's on to other things now. I think you could elevate J.D. Drake to that level with a little work, and I'd love to see him more in AEW.
  16. So she's "hard-headed" both literally and figuratively? That's awesome. 頭が固い (Atama ga katai) literally means 'hard-headed' and has the same figurative meaning (i.e. stubborn) in Japanese as it does in English.
  17. I'm thinking they are going to have Cage align with Sting only to - swerve! - turn on him during a tag match against Team Taz. I'm half hoping they don't (because face Cage in AEW could be really fun) and I'm half hoping they play it for nostalgia/laughs if they do. Taz could have a lot of fun with the promos afterward. Archer vs Darby could be amazing. Archer vs Ospreay from the '19 NJ Cup was one of the best matches I've seen live. Darby can bump around every bit as well as Ospreay can.
  18. Love that statue! I used to drive through Hope a few times a year, on my way to the interior, the Rockies, or to Alberta. I would always - always! - have to make the terrible joke a few km down the road that, "Now we are truly beyond Hope."
  19. I agree with @NoFistsJustFlips that it's pretty much just common sense. It's "free" advertising for AEW merch and events. It's more in-ring experience for AEW's wrestlers. It's a chance to have a good look at some indie wrestlers whom AEW might want to employ some day. It's "practice" for the camera crews and tech people and announcers and so on. Also, Tonk K has made it clear that he is deliberately running a lot of matches during lockdown because he knows it is hard for indie wrestlers to find work and make money right now, and he'd like to give a payday to as many people as possible. To me, that seems like a very good thing. I almost never have time to watch every match I'd like to watch every week (even in the current situation where I'm staying home a lot) but I am happy that AEW (and NJPW, NOAH, AJPW, and all the other various indies and promotions) keep producing more than I can consume. Let everyone get their reps in. Let everyone get better at their jobs. Let everyone make some money. Find another Bear Country, give J.D. Drake more exposure, let us see more characters like Abadon. It's all good!
