  1. OK! So: This is why Jade Cargill needs legal representation. To keep Lizzo and Aidy from suing for royalties.
  2. A friend of mine just texted me that if AEW is running NYC in late September it could be perfectly feasible for, say, Okada or Ibushi or Shingo to make a trip to America around that time... NJPW just announced Dome events in Saitama in Early Sept... Maybe they'll take some time off after that? It's likely travel restrictions will be lifted by then... I don't wanna get my hopes up, but it's kinda already too late for that.
  3. Wow! AEW in New York! That building holds over 23,000 for tennis, presumably more for wrestling, unless they do some kind of limited seating arrangement (like a concert bowl type set up or something). It will be very interesting to see how many tickets they can sell, to hear the crowd at that show, to see if any New York area promotions do any kind of counter-promotion... I am really looking forward to seeing how this goes.
  4. Nope. Those were some pretty impressive mental gymnastics that got you to that point, though. I very much agree that the issue with the dude in question is not that he doesn't get the joke or know the trivia. However: The issue from my perspective, the thing that keeps me from wanting to be friends with this guy, lies in his assumption that he is the only one who gets the joke. It's not so much that he doesn't know some minor details, it's that when presented with the facts he just flat out rejected them. It really seems that there's no getting through to the guy since he apparently believes that if he doesn't already know it then it can't be worth knowing. More arrogant than socially awkward, from where I stand. "Socially Awkward Guy" is a pretty interesting post-modern pro wrestling character, though. AEW has done some fine work along those lines with Hangman and the Dark Order. I got a legit out loud laugh out of the two-part skit on BTE where Silver and Reynolds tried to recruit Billy Gunn, only for Gunn to walk into the Lair at the worst possible moment. Gunn's line in that moment got the laugh out of me. I also enjoyed the bit where Silver was lounging near the Wingmen. I thought Silver nailed his line in that one, and the Wingmen did a nice subtle job of reacting to it.
  5. Yeah, if people want to discuss things they should go find some kind of "discussion board" or something. And speaking of "Navel Gazing" I ran into a guy the other day. Definitely wouldn't call him a friend. He is another guy from outside of Japan who works and lives here. If I am out drinking with my gaijin friends and another foreigner comes into the izakaya, there is often the assumption that they are welcome to join us at our table. Usually, that is fine. This particular guy is, in my opinion, an exception. His deal, in his own mind, is that he is the South Park guy. He has a lot of South Park t-shirts and a South Park baseball cap and he likes to talk about South Park. The second or maybe third time he invited himself to join us at our table, he started a conversation about "Which South Park character are you." In our group, I am quite definitely Leopold Stotch, in that I am kind of naive and trusting compared to my more cynical drinking buddies, and I am - relatively speaking - very happy and positive about life in Japan. So I said as much, and the self-annointed South Park expert said, "Nah, man. You are Butters!" Then he looked around the table hoping for high fives and approval for his high-quality burn and could not understand why everyone was regarding him ruefully. Someone at the table tried to explain to him that Leopold Stotch is Butters, but he was having none of it. He shortly thereafter left in a.huff. I didn't see him again until running into him on the train. He immediately moved over to sit near me and started complaining loudly about life in Japan. To change the subject, I showed him the Switch game cartridge for Fractured But Whole (a South Park RPG). He had an opinion about that! His opinion was that it is pretty hilarious that "Trey and Matt" didn't realize that "Fractured But Whole" sounds like "Fractured Butthole." "Get it? Fractured. BUTTHOLE!" Pointing at his own ass. I thought about trying to explain to him how that is the joke... but fortunately it was his stop. He thinks we should all go drinking soon.
  6. I heard it was six figures (Jericho, Matt, Nick, Riho, the Cody one with the sledgehammer, and Darby with his skateboard) plus the Action Ring with flexible tension ring ropes.
  7. I really enjoyed seeing Arik Cannon on Dark Elevation and I hope we will see more of him in AEW. I particularly enjoyed seeing him in there against Eddie Kingston (in a tag match) and getting a little bit of his crafty heel stuff in. Cannon and Kingston are connected in my mind because, out of the dozens of "gaijin" wrestlers I have seen and met and spoken to and/or hung out with over here in Japan, they are the only two who relentlessly heeled it up without throwing in a little nod and a wink to show that they are really good guys inside. I saw Cannon on a Dragon Gate show in Fukuoka in November of 2007, the second time we came to Japan from Canada. He was in a tag match and Mochizuki was on the other team and I was cheering for Mochizuki and Arik Cannon just unloaded on me for that. It got to the point where my girlfriend (now my wife) was legit terrified, constantly worried that "Mohawk Guy" might come after us until we were safely out of Fukuoka. Needless to say, Cannon made me a fan for life that day. King was part of the Chikara crew that came to work in Osaka Pro Wrestling in September of 2011. The Chikara guys were always super friendly, and so obviously having a blast in Osaka... except for Eddie Kingston who was angry at everybody all the time. He hated my good friend Osaka Pro superfan Kenji. We all loved him for it, and showed that love by booing him relentlessly. He never broke. Didn't smile once, that I noticed. So it totally did my heart good to see those two fighting each other. Brought back some great memories. (Also it occurs to me that Fire Ant was also on that tour, so I can technically add Orange Cassidy to the list of "guys I've seen live."
  8. Sometimes I can really relate to Adam Page: Edit: In case you can't read it, the chyron says "Has lost all sense of time."
  9. That is the show.that, once and for all, got me to stop being all "Old Man Yells at Cloud" w/r/t Kenny and the Bucks. Absolutely one of my favourite pro wrestling shows of all time. Probably, if I hadn't enjoyed that show so much I wouldn't be a fan of AEW now. Surprising that it was three years ago.
  10. It's a small thing, but I truly enjoyed watching muscle freaks Miro and Cage getting up for those beautiful dropkicks. I also popped for King hitting that stereo dive with Pac. I thought they got a lot of little things right tonight. Loved all the little tributes to Brody Lee, and Negative One's "happy water." Dark Order celebrating was a nice way to close the show. Really liked how Leyla and Uno both got believable hope spots and looked good while Miro and Nyla both looked like monsters. Tough balance to strike, and they pretty much nailed it twice tonight. Making his AEW debut!! BROCK (pause) Anderson! got a lol out of me. I'm interested to see what he can do in the ring. I feel like Cutler has found a pretty good role for himself. I think almost any match could have been placed almost anywhere on the card tonight and it could have worked. You easily could have had the trios match or the title match as the main event, but the tag match didn't feel out of place in that slot. Christian vs Angelico was an exciting opener, but almost any match on the card could have worked there, too. I like that about AEW. That Chandler guy bumped like crazy for Lance Archer. I enjoyed that quick squash. I don't feel like anything outstayed its welcome tonight, and having a quick squash was a nice change of pace and provided contrast for the two competitive squash matches. I also laughed at JR's attempt at a pop culture reference ("Chandler from Friends")being totally no-sold. I was happy when Tazz went off on JR for getting all grandpa about the word "dojo." However, I 100% agree with JR about flying headbutts. Would not hurt my feelings one bit to see those banned. I've never been all that excited about seeing vehicles get destroyed on pro wrestling TV shows. Someone must love it, though. It happens so often. That crowd really loves Jungle Boy! I'm right there with them.
  11. https://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=188848039793034&id=100457048632134 Some of the history behind Penta 0M. Interesting stuff!
  12. I think we're getting just the right amount of: Tay Conti - Showcasing her without aggressively over-pushing her. Miro - Cutting threatening promos and murdering people. The Uninjured Bear Country Guy and JD Drake - Consistently looking great, whether going over or playing JTTS. Darby - I'm still excited every time he shows up. Dustin - I wouldn't mind him in a main event brawl once every month or two. Starks and Hobbs - Letting them grow and develop on TV without overexposing them seems like the right move. King - Has earned every second of screen time he gets. Top of the card underdog is a tough role, but he is nailing it so far. Tully- I'm happy every time he is out there, never sick of seeing him, never wondering where he's gone. Jade - Looks dominant without exposing how green she is. Leyla Hirsch - I am enjoying watching her work her way up the card like Tay did. I feel like we haven't seen Shawn Dean in a while.
  13. I agree with your first two answers completely. I am afraid that I don't generally think about the belts as physical objects enough to really have a particular favourite. My all time favourite IWGP champion is definitely Shinya Hashimoto.
  14. Yikes. That number looks bad. For those with some idea how TV programming works: Is there any chance this leads to the TV executives reconsidering the plan to put Rampage on Friday? Is the time slot carved in stone now that it has been announced? Do same-day ratings matter more to TV people than 7-day ratings? I think it was @Technico Support who was saying on the Dynamite thread that he watched the Friday show on Saturday, skipping through parts, and didn't feel it lime he does watching "live" on a Wednesday. I'd have to imagine he's not the only one. Even on here, there weren't very many comments on the show right after it ended. For me, later on Friday night works because it airs at 11 am on Saturday here and that's a free and convenient time for me, but even so it doesn't have the same feel as a Wednesday night (Thursday morning) airing where I've got a chat going with some of my wrestling friends and also the DVDVR Discord to read during commercial breaks. I'm looking forward to Dynamite having a permanent timeslot and hoping that Rampage is not given a death slot. Or at least, as @Zakk_Sabbath suggests, that AEW book Rampage so that it becomes appointment viewing...
  15. Top 3 greatest leaps in quality this week. Ranked. (Spoiled because of spoilers)
  16. On 5/21 @Goodear said that we've never seen Julia Hart before. @AxB correctly pointed out that Julia Hart had recently wrestled Britt on Dynamite. Goodear's actual response was that it doesn't count because it was a short match. The same day, Goodear also complained that none of the PPV matches other than Bucks vs Mox & King got more than 3 weeks' build. @John from Cincinnaticorrectly pointed out several ways in which this was inaccurate, and again Goodear had convoluted ways of denying the actual facts (Maybe it's had five weeks of build, but there have only been three interactions on Dynamite, and so on). Now we've got @Casey and @EVA correctly pointing out that the 7-day ratings for the Friday show are just fine and Goodear responding that he's worried about AEW because the rating are so bad... and @NoFistsJustFlips correctly pointing out that FTR just main evented the most recent PPV and are involved in one of the main AEW storylines and the response is that doesn't count because it wasn't a straight up tag match. Plus we've got @Sex Machine Gun calling AEW fans "simps" and @just drew accusing us of "caping" and sinking to calling the Bucks "business exposing" (To whom? Who is watching AEW that will have their illusions destroyed by the Young Bucks "atrophied" bodies and "weak" offense? I'm pretty sure most AEW fans had already figured out the deal about kayfabe before watching that match). I think we might be approaching an all-time low point for AEW hating on this board. Dear Haters: Here's something you guys can carp on that makes a little more sense: - The Inner Circle "This ain't over yet!" promo was immediately followed by a Best Friends "This ain't over yet!" promo. Taz calling for Hangman Page to find a partner to face Cage and Hobbs was pretty closely followed by The Jerks challenging Darby to find a partner other than Sting to face them. Should the "Booker of the Year" really be repeating himself like that twice in one show? If anyone feels the need to keep getting personal: I thought it was cute that they did that. Is that proof that I am a "simp" who can't stop "caping" for AEW? That's not much, but I think it beats disputing the actual facts, resorting to juvenile insults, or non-ironically worrying about "the business" being exposed. Best regards, your pal Gordberg.
  17. You could call yourself "The $hitman" and put together a faction called "The Shart Foundation"
  18. One hell of a good pro wrestling show!
  19. Also, reportedly, the "He's a friend from work." line w/r/t Hulk in the 3rd Thor movie was suggested by a Make-A-Wish kid who was visiting the set. I also have no opinion on the topic at hand.
