  1. Is Chase still affiliated with the NWA? If so , I could see Chase/Yujiro entering this.
  2. Suzuki vs White was in the G1 last year and it was hilarious seeing Jay get what he deserved for once. I want to see a full program for an in-between show as Minoru starts easing into evil dad status.
  3. Juice is defending the title in Japan on this tour, and he defended it on a New Japan show in the US. It's not hypocritical to defend the US belt at a NJPW US show.
  4. Juice's problem in ROH is that he's having to be a dominant ace, when he's best as a sympathetic babyface. New Japan Juice is a lot better than ROH Juice where he gets used properly and doesn't have to do too much. If Juice wants to take the next step he's going to have to develop some more vicious offense.
  5. Sounds like other champs are going to be in this year, with the reason given that "the title match has already been decided" Given the need for a top challenger to White, only three possible winners this year : Ibushi, Okada, and Naito.
  6. I think the plan for Tana/Okada this year is them vs Evil/SANADA to main event one night of the Dome, with Naito/White maining the other night.
  7. When he started it, I wasn't used to his accent (which is cool as hell), and I thought he was saying Bleed with the Switchblade, which sounds a lot more vicious. I can imagine Bushiroad not going for it though- it's a little too violent for NJPW. I do want to see Jay White shill some Children's card games in full heel mode now and make the kids cry.
  8. I liked White/Tana more than I liked Omega/Tana, and I like Omega. I think Jay's style and willingness to heel it up plays better against Tana than Omega's mega-athletic style, which works better with Okada. Hearing Ibushi actually signed a contract with NJPW, so he's going to get a push. NJPW not thinking Americans won't connect with Japanese wrestlers is a mistake. LIJ is insanely popular (just as many LIJ as Lovers/BC shirts at CEO), and folks wanted to see Ishii at the US shows this month. BTW saying the US fans in Charlotte expected a PPV level show is ridiculous. Everyone knew what the likely card was going to be, and friends I talk to, when this was announced, the names expected weren't Naito or Okada. People were interested in Nagata, Henare, and Ishii, and knew Juice was going to show up and give a good effort.
  9. Ospreay would make the most sense as the mole now. He has the forbidden move thing he used at WK to show a vicious side, and he would have a reason to feud with Okada on top of it as a heavyweight. I could also see Ospreay being a very good heel. I think the plan for this year is set, and it's going to be pretty good.
  10. They're money marks who also have a history of standing up against bigots. I agree with Oyaji about it not being 100% altruistic, my eyes are open, but I also believe Kenny really means it on his inclusiveness from seeing how he interacted with folks at CEO, and how he handled the sex offender screw up (which really was more on Jebailey IMO as I think he was handling that and Jebailey didn't fully know what he was getting into- and tore his Achilles on top of it)
  11. I trust Kenny and the Khan's on handling Nyla well. They might be the only wrestling folks I can say that about. Heard neck muscle contusion for Fenix which is scary but just need rest. Sounds like he had a really close call. Hopefully everyone can stay healthy.
  12. They already have this deal in place with CEO. CEO x NJPW was great last year. Jebailey has hinted it's happening this year (would be end of June)
  13. Well, they've said tag belts are going to be treated as a main event level belt, and it's widely believed Best Friends are also headed to AEW, so Friends/Bucks/Lucha Bros are a good top 3 teams, and they'll pick up some more folks. The transition to a weekly TV show is going to be what makes or breaks them. It's a lot harder to book 70 shows than it is to book 10. Getting Impact on board would be nice too- Johnny Impact vs Kenny is a match I want to see.
  14. I think the best approach would be mostly matches on TV (that's the strong point of the roster), and then NJPW-style interviews in a post-match show which can go 20-30 minutes and be streamed on youtube. Use the announcers to further angles and stuff. I'd even do the most matches are tags things NJPW does, with the occasional tag team contenders doing singles against each other.
  15. Also Despy needs is well, to win the big one. He's got everything else in my eyes. I dig his style, and he's the mom of Suzuki-Gun.
  16. I think I'd like that, esp if you combined with a half-hour of post-match interview segments on youtube or twitch like the NJPW post-match comments. Keep the rest of the show all action.
  17. Might be a fake account of Kitamura so not mentioning.
  18. This is what I think NJPW gets right. Even if the guys I like job in the most frustrating ways possible (such as a couple night ago) , it makes sense. Yeah, you can question certain things- but no promotion does everything you want- there are millions of other fans out there. I haven't felt like my intelligence or my fandom was insulted. I think it helps with NJPW has all the factions which appeal to different types of fans. That rumble Roman won- that was the last straw for me years ago. It's what made me decide to drop the network and cut the cord. I felt like WWE was telling me flat-out we don't give a shit about what you want. It really feels like there isn't that variety in WWE-land, except for the women. Maybe things are different now, but I got willing to dive into other promotions, and eventually got my fix somewhere else. I don't know if they could ever win me back at this point , especially if AEW provides a good alternative (ROH provides a decent one, and having Juice and Zack help a lot because I enjoy both of them a lot).
  19. I do think a lot of the folks who really want AEW are the old WCW fans, so getting on TNT or TBS would be a nostalgia trip.
  20. last year at this time, he lost to the ball kick/mic stand/destino combo, so they showed Taichi was tougher than one year ago. I think he gets into the G1 from this, even if he'll go 0-9 because they do like to humiliate Taichi. I'm bummed, but a big reason I cheer for Taichi is because he doesn't give up despite the humiliations.
  21. Went to the show last night- my opinion on things The US Young Lions are being trained to the standard of the Japanese ones. Shibata's going a damn good job. Fredrichs especially is good to me. I think he's the one most likely to make an impact in NJPW proper. Would like to see a Young Lions Cup with the American Young Lions. In terms of being over, Juice, Tiger Hattori, and Marty were the only guys really over. Rocky was a little bit over. O-Kharn, Brody King, and the Lions get themselves over. Overall there was a bit of lack of energy outside of the Young Lions and the main, where Juice and Beretta brought their working boots. People were really upset about no Japanese stars, though the blame was not put on NJPW (most seemed to blame politics) The ROH-only guys weren't over at all except for Brody. O-Kharn himself, can still see a bit of roughness to him, and I think he's gaining a bit too much weight, but he's good, seems to have gained a good amount of charisma with the gimmick. Most folks pegged him as belonging in Suzuki-Gun when he's finished as he's a cool heel. (Folks I talked to generally preferred Suzuki-Gun over the current Bullet Club) Merch section was pretty bad
  22. Those situations are where the fans care about the storyline. NJPW fans have their favorites, Kenny vs Tanahashi everyone loved both of them, but half my friends were rooting for Kenny hard, and the other half Tana. The reason was the storyline, even if the storyline was a mix of kayfabe and reality. A good enough storyline can do it. I mean, Jay White seems like an awesome guy who deserves every bit the push he's getting, but cheering Juice against him is damn easy because Juice is that damn good at being likable. I do think it's easier to cheer the babyfaces and boo the heels in a low-rent indie, where you don't know any of the guys at all outside of the main, than it is the WWE or a theoretical #2 fed where you do. This is a big reason why I miss CHIKARA not coming down here anymore. I don't know jack shit about the CHIKARA wrestlers for the most part- but it's a chance for me to enjoy some family-friendly wrestling where I can cheer the babyfaces and boo the heels.
  23. Taichi is like the embodiment of the "pot monster"- which is one reason I find it so easy to identify with and appreciate how cool he is. I get the frustration. It's a lot easier to root for the Taichis of the world for me than it is the Kennys, because I could never be as good as Kenny, but I can see myself winning a midcard belt by upsetting a top guy and thinking everything is rigged. Taichi's just a lot more relatable for me.
  24. The problem is the WWE itself is the heel to a lot of these fans. They see the WWE as anti-Bryan, so they cheer Bryan. I think NJPW has a grasp of how to handle it right on the modern era. There's like a sliding scale of face to heel, and you have to accept that fans are gonna like who they like and you can't manipulate it too much with established guys. Folks were going to cheer Tana over Omega, but cheer Omega over Okada. I don't think a strong face-heel dynamic is needed to draw money- you just need to have a compelling reason for feuds- whether it's style, prestige ,or just personal dislike.
