  1. Hell yeah! After I watch the NJ Cup tonight, I'll definitely watch this.
  2. Saw the official Muta thread, so I thought I'd start one for my favorite of the Three Musketeers. Chono was my favorite ever since I saw him on a tape I got as a kid when he beat Rick Rude in the G1 Climax, but when he became Yakuza Chono it really shot him up in my eyes, and it pissed me off when he was treated like a ham-and-egger in WCW. Not even in a "oh he deserves a push" way, just doing more than he did there. I came across this clip of him telling Chins McMahon that the ring smells like shit, which is funny considering that NJPW is cleaning the ring in the middle of shows now.
  3. Watching Nakanishi vs Giant Bernard from the 2008 G1 Climax. Does anyone remember what this SXW was? Google searches are pulling up next to nothing.
  4. I'm digging the Tenryu love here- looks like I'll be binge-watching his matches this weekend. So I'm reading this article about TJP getting released from WWE, and someone in the comments section made mention of some backstage differences with Prince Devitt. Did these two have heat in New Japan?
  5. Sir, can you guide me in the direction of said Nagata/Taue match?
  6. I just watched Nagata vs Yasuda from Strong Energy 2003. How the fuck did Tadao Yasuda ever pull off an incredible match like this? Yes, he still sucked, but seriously, you can't fuck up a Yuji Nagata match- he was like Flair, able to carry any stiff to a passable match. And just like Flair, the crimson flows in this match.
  7. So, I'm watching Toru Yano vs Tajiri from the 2009 G1 Climax. My memory of Shin Nihon Puroresu in 2008-11 is a bit cloudy because I only got to sparingly watch it. Now, I know Yano was a midcard heel around this time, but when did he start to transition into the prankster that we know today? And was this why Iizuka turned on him?
  8. I reckon I'd start this thread in lieu of Greg Robinson being a fucking moron and getting cut by the Browns for his marijuana charge. Seriously, you're making an NFL salary, more money than any of us will ever see, and you're out here trying to trap? AND you suck as a lineman? So this thread will be the host for future imbeciles like him.
  9. I'm watching youngboy Naito in his debut match. He lost by submission to Takashi Uwano. I don't remember this guy at all! Was he any good? It's hard to tell from just his opening squash of a Young Lion.
  10. Except I doubt NOAH would use them to treat rising stars like WWE did to The Wyatt Family at Wrestlemania 32. I'd like to think that they'll be more like the NJPW daddies.
  11. How does everyone here watch NOAH or All-Japan? I know that AJPW has a streaming service, but is it worth the money? What about XWT?
  12. I feel like an idiot for not knowing this, but in the DEEP SLEEP TO LOSE match between Tenzan and Iizuka at WK5, who was it that prevented Crazee Bouzou from using the Iron Glove on Tenzan? Also, I don't know what needs to happen, but NJPW World seriously needs to start having overdubs for the themes on old matches if they're not going to use the original themes because of copyright issues. It takes away from the big moment when, take for instance, Chono beat Mutoh to win the inaugural G1 Climax.
  13. They put GOD winning the titles on NJPW World. I'm thinking that the full, edited shows will be up this weekend.
  14. I'm watching this match from the 2006 World Tag League. I'm always down to check out anything from one of the Three Musketeers, but can anyone give me a bit of background on RISE, and what matches from this faction I should check out? Also, is it just me or does Nakamura look like Goto here?
  15. I was working a local indy here in Tucson, and we all agreed that while Greg The Office Boy is totally in the wrong- Jim Cornette been telling y'all- Mercury is just as wrong for the way he approached it, because you just don't do that in the wrestling business if you want to get employed elsewhere when leaving a promotion. I'll never abandon ROH, by the way.
  16. What if CM Punk followed through with the part of The Pipebomb where he thought about taking the WWE Championship to Shin Nihon Puroresu? This was 2011, so Nakamura, Tanahashi Goto, Shibata, Nagata, Kojima and Makabe were in the main event picture, so there's a lot of dream matches (well, I don't know about Makabe.....)
  17. So I'm telling people in a Facebook group that I'm in about how NJPW rose from a shitshow to the phenomenon that it is today. Admittedly, I didn't watch it a lit in the mid-2000's for the obvious reasons, and I would hear about how bad it was from sites like Strong Style Spirit or whatever. What exactly is "Tenzan must suffer"? Was Inoki or Choshu fucking him over?
  18. Wait, what?? Where did this come from?
  19. Credit: Wrestle Zone In a new interview with The Hannibal TV, Davey Boy Smith Jr. discussed why he is no longer with New Japan Pro-Wrestling. He also discussed the end of the Killer Elite Squad tag team with Lance Archer. Check out highlights below: Why he left NJPW: Unfortunately I was pretty much in a situation where I couldn’t win. New Japan towards the end were only giving me four tours a year. What they expressed to me was that there was no way for them to increase the work load of KES, Lance Archer and myself as a tag team. I had my back against the wall and it was a business decision that I had to make for my future. I felt like the tag team with Lance Archer with myself had expired and we did all that we could in Japan and in the USA. We’re just not very well known over here as a tag team. NJPW having communication issues: This all dates back to when Lance Archer hurt his back on a NJPW tour in March 2017. Believe me, when Archer and myself returned to New Japan after a two-year stint in Noah, I was very fired up and pumped up to take New Japan by storm. I had done a really crazy diet at that time. i didn’t even have a diet coke for about a month. No crap, I was lean and down to 248. Really happy to be back in New Japan, but unfortunately Archer got injured … he had to get emergency back surgery. I was told I was on the rest of the tour and that I’d be on the next tour. It was a little over four weeks, he gave me a schedule, I wasn’t on the Super Juniors tour, I was on something in June. When I went home, I was owed merchandise money and they said [they’d pay me when I was back next month]. I was waiting for my flight information [and was told I wasn’t on the tour]. I was told I was on the full tour that was over a month long. I tried to send Gedo a Facebook message since that’s how him and Lance Hoyt communicate … he never even read it or responded. I spoke to Hattori, who had the balls to call me back, and he said, ‘We’re sorry,’ and that it was an office person’s fault. I would’ve appreciated them being honest with me and saying that [they had nothing for me since Archer was injured] and book yourself … With that lack of communication, what am I supposed to do? On Gedo lying to him after he returned: [I confronted Gedo and told him] that I sent you a Facebook message since that’s how you communicate with Lance. He lied to me, he’s a liar. He said, ‘Facebook? What’s Facebook?’ He talks like Cartman from ‘South Park.’ … They were pretending they didn’t speak English for 30 seconds, and I said, ‘What’s this then?’ and showed him the message. ‘How do you communicate with Lance then?’ I looked him in the eye and he goes, ‘I don’t know.’ ‘Well, you talk to him on Facebook, right? Do you want me back in New Japan or not? What’s the story here?’ He said when Lance gets better in September, we’ll come back and feud with War Machine and G.O.D. [I talked about the lack of communication] and he apologized … but ever since that day, Gedo was scared of me and didn’t want to communicate with me. Japanese don’t like confrontations, they’re very passive-aggressive. NJPW blocking him coming to IMPACT: I had been contacted by IMPACT Wrestling to do TV and I asked [NJPW] very nicely [if I could do it] and all of a sudden their eyes got wide and they were like, ‘You don’t want to leave us to go with them.’ I said no, but if you’re only booking me on four tours a year then I need to do things to further my career and get back on TV. … I asked Gedo and Jado, and I like Jado a lot, he has a better business mind for wrestling than Gedo does, but it was like, ‘F—ing Jeff Jarrett. They f—ed Okada over.’ I was like, ‘Guys, Jeff Jarrett is gone. I was just asking. You said no, that’s fine.’ So, I went home and Lance Archer had emailed the new president Harold Meij and he said to Lance, “We figured Davey Boy was going to IMPACT and that you guys were done.” Lance asks me about this and … Gedo had told Meij that I was quitting. There was miscommunication and words were putting into my mouth. … I was never threatening to quit.
  20. To be honest, ever since the whole thing with Davey Boy Jr came out I've been kinda looking at Gedo in a slightly different light. I know everything is hearsay until proven, but for it to be this much detailed the way he told it in that Hannibal interview leads me to believe that at least some of it is true.
  21. No I understand why he does it, and more NJPW referees should do the same, especially with so much riding on the results of the tournament. Red Shoes doesn't want to see any of the matches end in countout any more than the rest of us, so he'll swallow his whistle a bit. But he's biased against Bullet Club, so FUCK EM! *Bad Luck Fale voice*
