  1. First half of the first episode of Wheel of Time I almost checked out. It wasn’t great but it wasn’t awful. It was just vanilla bland TV.

Picked up once the Trollocs show up.

Second episode is much better and all around decent fantasy fare.  Had a similar feel the His Dark Materials series.  All very clean and tidy.  Nowhere near the level of LOTR or GOT.

Young Wrestling fans, when they grow up, they aren't going to call playing Ricky Morton "playing Ricky Morton". They're going to call it Jungle Boying.

Oh, now I want to see 60+ years Jungle Boy working spot shows in 2060.  I have one proviso to that, and that is he should still be called Jungle Boy, even at 60 years old. I never want him to become Jungle Man.

The Gunn Club are the perfect marriage of Pat McAfee and Stifler.

I enjoyed the new Ghostbusters. It didn't break any real new ground, but it was good for a lot of laughs and some real feel good moments. Early 20's Drew would've hated it, but as I approach 40 I find I just want to escape for a couple hours, and this movie definitely provided that. Carrie Coon and Paul Rudd are really great in it, but Logan Kim runs away with every scene he's in.

Exactly what I wanted to hear. Good news

  4. A potential side effect of all this is great wrestlers not being able to get enough work and thinking “screw this” and just retiring.  Would be heartbreaking to never see some of these girls and guys again.

Even if they find enough work on the indies then it might keep a new up and comer off the card.  In which case we end up with that weird mid-90’s east coast indies scene where they were populated by ex-tv guys with some youngsters in the opening match.

I remember years ago JR or Cornette went on a rant on a podcast about “being a wrestler is not for everyone”.  At the time I thought it was just ‘old man yells at cloud’, but they may now be right, breaking into the business is about to get ridiculously tough with the amount of outstanding talent that is floating around in the ether.

I actually think Rock is more limited as an actor than Schwarzenegger.  Obviously Arnold’s got the stiff line delivery that hasn’t improved in forty years, but I can’t imagine Rock pulling off a terminator, or even being a good lead for a film like TOTAL RECALL.

For all his flaws I always believed Arnold as his character.  His classic run from Conan through T2 is a lot of “big dumb Arnie” roles but he brings subtleties to each, he plays Dutch and John Matrix very differently despite them being very similar characters.

The Rock is always fun to watch but I always feel I’m watching “The Rock in a movie” as opposed to a character.  Maybe I’m just overly familiar with him, but I feel he plays most of his characters in the same way.   He does show good chops from time to time in Ballers.

I think I felt the same about Will Smith in the 90’s before Enemy of the State and Ali.  After those movies you realised Will could actually act and wasn’t just “Will Smith in a huge budget action comedy”

  6. MJF / Darby was my match of the night. It was really great. Probably MJF’s best match in AEW.

loved the main event. Super emotional.

Dan Lambert rules. JDS stalling suplex then standing moonsault ruled even more.

Punk / Eddie had elements of Joe / Necro, which is weird considering Punk / Eddie were on commentary and Bryce was the ref!

    Manchester meanwhile...

If I was to rank the Spice Girls in order of “who could have made the jump to pro-wrestling” then Scary Spice would have been my number one pick.  Totally charismatic, her name is literally “scary” to begin with and she always seemed athletic in their more energetic videos.  Feel like she would have been a great all-rounder.

Sporty would have been the second pick. I feel like her matches would have been great, but promos probably would have needed a bit of work

Ginger, Baby and Posh spice would have made decent managers or valets.  Geri in particular would have made a fine low budget Vickie Guerrero.

Then again I once ranked the Jersey Shore cast in a similar fashion and did not have Snooki as being the one to look fairly competent in ring on a wrestlemania.

Lee Moriarty got interviewed by Pitchfork about his psych-up music, which is pretty cool.

    Nice article. 2 main takeaways

    1) I’m super old and out of touch with modern music

    and more importantly

    2) “Hip-hop and professional wrestling work so perfectly together, but wrestling usually features rock music. Or if it’s hip-hop, it’s Pitbull or Flo Rida”

Dropped that in for us, didn’t you Lee? ?

  9. I’ve been fantasy booking an El Generico return to wrestling in my head all day. Slow day at work.  I’ve come to the logical conclusion that it has to be in AEW.

Lio Rush and Andrade team up to force a leveraged buy out of Generico’s orphanage (as a front for money laundering or property development purposes).  This forces Generico back to the ring to win the orphanage from the clutches of Andrade.  When he wins he can be carried to the back on the shoulders of the orphans.

My only worry would be that a debuting Kevin Steen would somehow ruin that feel good moment by throwing Generico off the stage.

    The Necro knows… nothing

Left off of Survivor Series. Aliyah, who's had zero matches on tv, wasn't. Gotta wonder if it's bc her fiance went "Did you say 'fuck Jay and Silent Bob. Fuck them up their stupid asses?'" on some troll.

Oh god, I hope Matt Riddle never reads some of the stuff I’ve written about him and Randy Orton.  I could be in trouble.

  11. Just catching up with SD.

    - They somehow managed to drain all the energy from Shotzi. Her promo felt so forced.

    - Humberto & Angel are basically the new Primo & Epico.

    - Drew v Ricochet was fun while it lasted.

    - Happy Talk should not work at all, but it somehow does.  The Viking raiders telling anyone that their gimmick “is corny and sucks” is a bit rich.  Corbin and Moss are really great cartoonish douchebags and the type of dudes you want to see get their ass kicked.

  12. I loved 99% of Taya’s Impact run so I’d love to see her back there, I would imagine she’ll pop up in AAA at some point.

I can imagine Kross and Scarlett showing up in MLW.  I seem to remember them burning bridges with Impact when they left, I may be wrong though.

ROH really picked a bad time to restructure.  I feel bad for the likes of Mance and Danhausen being out injured while the market is flooded with talent.
