  1. Wait, they actually gave Ogawa a run as GHC Jr. Champ in 2020???!!!??? The most recent singles match I saw of his was against TAKA Michinoku at the start of the Suzuki-gun invasion, and even then he seemed completely washed up and TAKA was doing all the work. Who the fuck does this guy have pictures of? Retire already!!!
  2. David Ayer is out as director of Bright 2, and will be replaced by Louis Letterier. Ayer is reportedly working on a remake of The Dirty Dozen, which given Ayer's track record, will presumably be set in L.A. and feature a group of corrupt cops.
  3. We better get a Biblesaurus figure in the next wave of action figures.
  4. Why the hell does Amanda Palmer have a Patreon? Does she not make any money at all from Dresden Dolls and her (soon to be ex-) husband's book/TV career?
  5. American Gods: This would be a miniseries, doing a straightforward adaptation of Neil Gaiman's original novel, rather than an expansion. Dialogue would be lifted directly from the novel, rather than freely rewritten by the actors themselves. The showrunners would be instructed not to deviate from the novel in any way. After filming of American Gods ends, production would immediately begin on an adaptation of Anansi Boys for the following year.
  6. I only want Shane to come back if it's to face a rejuvenated Toshiaki Kawada who has regained all the weight he's lost and is back in fighting shape. Seeing Shane O'Mac get Irish whipped into the corner, and then just absolutely drilled in the face with a super-stiff running kick to the jaw would be worth it.
  7. Very sad flare up of Dave's dementia on today's WOR: When talking aboutt meeting Eddie Mansfield at a Walmart in St. Petersburg, Florida while in town for SuperBrawl 91, he claimed that the Smoking Gunns got their start in Mansfield's IWF, feuding with Bill and Scott Irwin. In reality, the Gunns were known as "The Long Riders" in the IWF, which was also the name of the Irwin brothers tag team, and of course, Scott had been dead for four years at that point when Bart Gunn debuted.
  8. I really wish there was an on-line archive of Bill Simmons' AOL "Boston Sports Guy" stuff, from Bill's glory days as a sports writer, back when all of his stuff was fresh and hadn't been driven into the ground. Some truly classic, hilarious columns like his running diary as he listened to WEEI for 12 hours straight, Pete "Fredo" Carroll, his Boston Sports Police Blotter columns. Obviously, Simmons will NEVER let these see the light of day given his incredibly sexist diatribes about the WNBA and Robin Roberts in them. If the social justice-leaning writers at Jezebel or Salon.com, or even his now bitter employees at The Ringer, got their hands on them, Bill would find himself #CancelCultured into oblivion. Bill's lucky that most of those writers weren't even born yet when he wrote them, and their memory is kept on only by a handful of hardcore sports junkies like myself.
  9. The Curse of Rocky Colavito by Terry Pluto is a really hilarious look at the Cleveland Indians teams of the 1960's and 70's, written in the same style as Pluto's Loose Balls. My favorite story from that book is Rico Carty in 1977 having a breakdown in the locker room, weeping openly and pleading with the Indians to trade him, complaining that he was an All-Star and didn't deserve to be on such a bad team. Pluto then sardonically notes that he had been an All-Star seven years earlier and he was currently batting .280.
  10. So...that's a "yes" then that I don't have to read Retribution and Reborn? Thanks, Nightworld looks like a fun apocalyptic thriller, but I really don't need to read about an Atlantean sorcerer spending 300 pages destroying the life of a priest who almost caused the sorcerer's mother to miscarriage due to refusing to sleep with her.
  11. If both WWE and AEW lose their tv deals due to COVID-19, we're going to see house shows come back with a vengeance. Imagine AEW having to start doing syndicated TV shows: Tony Schiavone: "Chattanooga! AEW is coming to your town! This Friday night at the Convention Center, AEW presents 8 big matches, including The Elite: Cody Rhodes and the Young Bucks, in a six-man 'country whipping' match against SoCal Uncensored, the loser of the fall gets manure dumped over his head, all six men will be armed with leather straps! Plus, Dr. Britt Baker takes on Riho in a '$10,000 Dragon Shi Challenge!' Both ladies will be armed with kendo sticks, the first one to strike her opponent in the head will win the match and $10,000! And in the main event, Kenny Omega challenges former tag team partner Hangman Page in a tuxedo match! Tickets available at the box office! Don't miss out!"
  12. Jesus Christ, copies of the "bulletin board poster" from the original release of Maniac Mansion are going for $700-$1500 on eBay, depending on quality. The worst thing is, I'll probably eventually buy one.
  13. It's not like they'll discuss their history of drinking and driving.
  14. I can definitely see Owens getting buried/humiliated when he returns, to serve as an example to others who didn't want to work during the shutdown. Maybe he gets massacred by Stroman upon his return, or maybe Vince forces him to do the "dancing fool" gimmick he had worked up for The Revival.
  15. Are any of the appearances by Jim Cornette & The Midnight Express in Continental in 1989 that Jim occasionally mentions on his podcast available on the Internet?
  16. Am I the only one on here who's stopped double dipping on Collector's Editions? I was really disappointed with the Shout Factory version of Cobra. It was the same transfer Warner Video used years ago, just with a new color timing that gave dark scenes a red tint instead of the ditector's intended blue tint. Beyond that, the extras were pretty useless: the same director's commentary from the laserdisc and DVD releases, interviews with the co-stars who tried to hide how embarrassed they were to be in Cobra, etc. I almost bought the Arrow release of RoboCop, but when I heard it used the same transfer as the MGM release, i decided to save my money. Last title I double dipped on was Weird Science, because the original transfer was shit.
  17. I think another reason many are pushing back on the lockdown is simply because they don't like their governors treating them like children, even if it's so they all don't get sick.
  18. I've looked all over the control panel and didn't see an option to do so.
  19. "Hi, I'm Robert Osborne, and tonight on TCM Wrestling Underground, we have a TRULY SCARY match for you workrate fanatics: it's Jun Izumida vs. Yoshihiro Takayama from the tournament to crown the very first GHC Champion. Now I remember talking to Jun Akiyama as part of last year's TCM Cruise, and he explained that it was Takayama's idea to let Izumida call and lead the match, and he admitted in retrospect that may have been a bad idea. Many of you may remember Izumida as IZU, a comedy character who did a "savage native" gimmick similar to Giant Kimala II, but you might be surprised to find out he had a serious side to himself as well. From March 22nd, 2001, here's Jun Izumida vs. Yoshihiro Takayama!"
  20. We're technically into the 2nd quarter of the year....
  21. If I wanted to read Paul Wilson's Night World, do I need to have read Reborn and Retribution to know what is going on? I read The Keep, and I know who Repairman Jack is thanks to wikipedia. Both novels seem like unnecessary padding to Wilson's Adversary Cycle, especially Retribution.
  22. Am I the only one here who absolutely despises the "Company Ace/The Guy" booking philosophy, where the entire company is built around one guy, that Meltzer/Gedo/Cornette/Baba/Vince all seem to believe in. It's one of the main reasons that I had a lot of trouble getting into Crockett, they kept going back to Ric Flair instead of giving Rhodes/Koloff/Luger/Sting long reigns as NWA World Champion. And when Misawa won his 4th and 5th Triple Crowns in 1998-99, I just rolled my eyes, as Kawada and Taue should have both had long reigns, and by 1998 Akiyama should have been celebrating his first TC victory. Companies should always be built around multiple guys: "Okay, Okada just had a 10 month reign as IWGP Champ, now it's time for Ishii to hold the title for six months and get three successful defenses as a reward for his long service, than Ishii will drop the belt to Sanada, and after Sanada it'll be Shingo Takagi's turn...." That booking philosophy has a nasty habit of backfiring on bookers, as you really struggle when "The Guy's" time comes to an end. Look at AJPW/NOAH; I really wish Baba had lived long enough to see Rikio and Morishima utterly fail as main eventers, just so he could see that his decision to so completely build the company around Misawa would have such negative consequences.
  23. I've already had a few run-ins with the Safeway union since my hiring, giving crap to our store rep b/c she's been trying to stop management from firing a cart pusher who's chronically late. That's one thing I hate about not living in a Right To Work state, you're forced to join a union if the company is a "closed shop," and then you have to deal with all the bullshit that comes with them. And besides, I like being a teacher too much to go into management with a retail company.
  24. It's weird, a month ago I was super paranoid about getting COVID-19 and would freak out when somebody would walk past me on the bus, or a person at Walmart stood closer than six feet from me, but over the last 30 days I've become completely desensitized and I no longer worry about it. I'm pretty sure I already had COVID-19 back in February, as I had the flu back in December, and then I had two days of nausea, dry throat, and uncontrollable diarrhea (sorry for being graphic) on February 3rd/4th. Given the fact that I deal with 150-200 customers a day, it's hard to fathom that I haven't been exposed to COVID-19 since then. At the very least, I was an asymptomatic carrier last month. The University of Washington is offering antibody tests to anybody who wants it, I'm just going to have to find a doctor to order it. Hopefully, I'll be able to do that on my day off on Monday.
