  1. Oops, this comment aged badly, I was walking through Best Buy after work, noticed that they had the Series X/Horizon 5 bundle in stock, and bought one. I already own a Series S. I stand by what I said earlier, but there’s a lot I like about the Series X/S from a technical standpoint. I prefer the interface and some of the little things to PS5. And right now, my main interest in the One S patches (not available to Series S owners) is the optical drive. As I’ve mentioned elsewhere, I love backwards compatibility and the enhancements the Series X/S’ horsepower brings to older games. A number of the X360 games I want to play over the summer are no longer available digitally. So… I would have bought a Series X eventually. Today was as good a day as any.
  2. I expected it to be meh at worst and most of the reviews I’ve had time to read or watch have really torn into it. I’m not surprised it’s not great, but I am surprised that it may be legitimately bad. Releases from first-party studios are generally solid so it’s kind of surprising to me when you get a complete misfire. Though I’d say Xbox’s track record with first-party stuff is shakier than Nintendo or Sony’s. i dunno. Between the scarcity of exclusives and other issues, I’m not into Xbox’s direction as much as I usually am. I’m not a big fan of gamepass and rarely use it, so I wouldn’t be too fussed if it went away. I’m not sure that teaching consumers to rent your product instead of buy is going to be great for the industry in the long run. It’ll be really interesting to see what Xbox’s release schedule looks like for the second half of the year. In theory, they’re poised to finally break thought and start delivering the exclusives. So far, I am mostly a fan of Series X for being a souped-up Xbox 360.
  3. However bad you expected Redfall reviews to be, they are probably worse. I’ve seen a number of awful, awful reviews this morning. Several 4/10. Ugh.
  4. I have no idea why anyone would wear that Britt shirt in public. Admittedly, that is my reaction to wrestling shirts in general. Though most are just tacky, not potentially offensive.
  5. He saw action in the night game (Pirates played a day-night double header today) and went 1-2 at the plate with an RBI. He was previously 0-4 so that was his first big league hit and rbi.
  6. I’m surprised I haven’t at least heard of Waypoint before.
  7. I’m going to need to see some proof that the filing mentioned was prepared by a competent attorney. I haven’t seen it, but from what I have heard, she names a number of defendants more than once and also names a number of defunct institutions and deceased individuals (Chris Benoit: for example). You can’t legally sue dead people. You can sue their estates, but in most cases, you’re looking at a finite time limit. Most of the time, if you’re suing an estate, you’re a creditor. There are also supposedly typos and name misspellings in the document. Descriptions of the lawsuit read like it was prepared by someone who watched every episode of LA Law instead of actually going to law school.
  8. My youngest daughter has her last day of college “classes” today. She’s an education major, so she didn’t have classes this semester. Instead she was assigned to one of the local elementary schools for student teaching, five days a week, eight hours a day. She’s graduating summa cam laude with almost perfect 4.0 gpa (one b in four years). We’ve got two other graduations to attend this May. Middle child finishes her master’s degree this semester and oldest daughter graduates from law school next month. Wife and I intend to put our feet up tonight, drink a bit, and pat ourselves on the back. We done good. We have five daughters, so it’s a minor miracle we and they survived their teens. They were your typical teenage hellions in high school. Somehow, they figured themselves out in college and became career-minded, started dating respectable boyfriends, took church more seriously, didn’t get tatted up, etc. They’ve turned out well. I’m immensely proud of them all. Most of the credit goes to my wife. They’d probably be basket cases today if she’d hadn’t been a steadying influence. Thank God she decided she didn’t need to marry up and accepted my proposal instead 30 years ago,
  9. I feel like I do this with 90% of Rich’s social media posts these days. I don’t use the site, but I do follow BC on Twitter. I get enough news content out of tweets to make it worthwhile, but, boy, do I miss the days when Rich used to post news and confine his editorializing fo columns.
  10. He started at 3B in today’s game.
  11. Her statement in the article begins with her saying she’ll take responsibility for what she said, then immediately segueing into a diatribe about how she’s being unfairly singled out by people out to get her. I don’t think she understands what “taking responsibility” actually entails.
  12. True. That’s the other side of the equation. I probably put off a few people when I talk about the hours I worked in my early to mid-20’s. People turn pale when I talk about the insane schedules I worked day after day, year after year when my kids were school age so I could keep on top of work and still make the ballgames and dance practices. My job - and my profession, really - aren’t for the people who want more balance in their work lives. Nothing wrong with that, but it’s definitely better to figure that out early. I haven’t taken a poll, but I suspect even some of my peers wouldn’t want to be in my shoes.
  13. I’ve been giving guest lectures to business majors at the university and one of the things I tell them is that they won’t meet too many successful executives who don’t work hard and spend more hours than them in the office. I even brought two of my neighbors in for show and tell. One held a management position with one of the three largest accounting firms in the world, the other ran a small local business that only employed a handful of people but was ridiculously profitable. Both worked insanely hard. I also had my wife come in so we could talk about how hard we had to work to advance in our corporate jobs when we were young and newly married. I read a lot of business books, including biographies of successful execs and CEO’s. Work ethic tends to be a common denominator. I’d be surprised if Vince doesn’t outwork most people in the company, even at his age. I finish up each talk asking the kids how successful they want to be on their careers. I am apparently doing something right. Several students have told me I scared them straight.
  14. …and who is potentially unsignable long-term due to his excessive contract demands.
  15. I don’t understand your objection here. WWE’s been kind of slow about returning staff to the office.
  16. Ok, I’ll do Rippa’s job for him. But just this once.
  17. To each their own. I’ve probably written before about why I think game design peaked with the X360 generation, but ultimately it’s a matter of personal preference. What I will say is that far more of my favorite games came from that generation and since then we’ve seen less experimentation, more sequels, more remasters, fewer new IPs. I really enjoyed my PS4 just fine and I find a lot to like from the current generation. But, if I put my 200 favorite Xbox 360/PS3 games against my 200 favorites from the last two gens, it’d be no contest. I still go back regularly to my PS3 and X360. I don’t know how many PS4 or PS5 games I will be coming back to in ten years. Far fewer, I would guess.
  18. House of Black’s next feud should be with whoever gave Julia Hart that unflattering perm,.
  19. You’re doing some impressive mental gymnastics yourself to remind us people don’t like JR. Putting over the largest (by far) guy in the match as the biggest threat is pro wrestling 101.
  20. Boxed up my current Gen consoles and hooked up my PS3 and Wii. PS3 library is probably my favorite library ever and Wii/GameCube isn’t far behind. I don’t think games have gotten much better since the seventh generation. Bigger and prettier, yes. Better? Probably not.
  21. He’d fake his death to escape before halftime. Again, I mean. Fake his death again, Actually, If you told me Fat Elvis, skinny Elvis, and Priscilla were starting tonight for the Grizzlies, I’d probably believe you.
  22. Lol, do you keep a casket on hand in case someone in the family dies? I can’t think of anyone I’ve gotten to know that kept a casket around just in case. My parents lived into their eighties and planned ahead, but planning didn’t go any further than organizing their affairs and putting a downpayment on a plot in the cemetery they wanted buried in. We picked out caskets when they died and never saw the things except at the funeral home and the gravesite. I’m almost certain my wife would be appalled if I wanted to put a casket in the garage until we need it. I’m curious sort, so I assume I would just ask the guy. Odds are there’s a reasonable explanation.
  23. I’m not sure it will do her much good, but finding Chris Benoit to serve him should be relatively easy.
  24. Meltzer and Alvarez seemed to think it was just storyline. I haven’t heard anyone suggest differently. if it was storyline, meh. Didn’t really see the logic of doing the angle when they could have simply put her in the multi-woman title match and gotten the same result without DRAMA. Stripping her of the belt seemed odd since she was off tv for a month or less.
  25. To each their own, but I’d much rather see Sammy, JB, and Darby in these spots than Hobbs, Starks, whoever. I’ll agree with you on White. Push him to the top.
